From someone who was born in 1992, what were the 80s like for those who lived during that decade?

Yeah it was fantastic. The films were great and all I did was ride me BMX (Diamond Back), play football, runouts and break into building sites/new buildings that shot up all along the Thames. Those were the days.
3-Time SADDO PREDICTION COMP CHAMPION.
I think in the UK there really was a crude divide. For us in the South East it was great; there was real hope amongst the working class; but outside the South East, Thatcher destroyed the spirit and soul of the rest of the Country and there was nothing to replace it, and seemingly little hope of improvement.

Yep we actually went out those days and parents didn't seem to worry where you were as long as you were home at meal times (looking back given how much my mum worries in general about me and our kid I can't believe this was the case ?!?)
These days I see my nephew not leaving the house - as he's connected on playstation and chatting from there , where's the fun in that ?!?
We'd all meet down the park for 3 hour football matches, build dens and stuff. Find porn mags too - even better. And as you say you were never off your BMX
What went wrong - technology ?
As much as I wouldn't be without my phone and internet etc it killed a lot of things.
Maybe that's just progress![]()

The 1980's were fucking great! Just as the 1920's truly opened the 20th Century, the 1980's closed the chapter on the century in much the same manner. Brilliant new art, music, literature, movies the world was on the upswing so it seemed and then along came the 1990's where it was like people got tired of success and became self destructive.
The 2020's are going to be fucking amazing though
Great time meet my wife 84 married 87, bikes concerts, had 14 pit bulls great time.
Yep I liked the 80s.😁
I loved the eighties. From a music standpoint it was a little tough to compete with its predecessor but it was the end of the bell bottoms. So bell you couldn't see your shoes. Midway to later 80's was better than the first half. Boxing in the eighties was better overall I think compared to the 70’s. The move from 8-track to cassette was pretty much done. Polyester was big still but natural fibres were making it known and cool clothing shops were popping up. I hated Polyester and the Saturday Night Fever look that hung around through the early eighties. I was all Funk which was great in those days and kind of underground. Could not stand Disco. Gas was a buck a gallon. The weed was mediocre.
The 1980's were this
With a touch of this
And a sprinkling of this
And Phoebe Cates' tits in Fast Times At Ridgemont High.....THAT is what the 1980's was
It was the worst decade for pop music. The 60's, 70's and 90's were MUCH better.
Movies were somewhat better in the 80s than in the 70s though.
Good decade for boxing, toward the end of the decade we had Mike Tyson. I used to go over to Detroit to watch Tommy Hearns when I lived in Windsor.
People were more sensible and conservative in the 80s. Drug use was down from the reckless 70s, at least in the mainstream. People were less promiscuous than in the 70s because of fear of AIDs and herpes.

I went to see Cyndi Lauper perform in Detroit in the winter of 86-87. And I love Annie Lennox's (Eurythmics) music from that decade. Whitney sang some nice songs.
But compared to the 60s, 70s and 90s, overall the 80s music wasn't very good. The songs I like by Michael Jackson were from the 70s (Ben, I'll Be There) and 90s (Earth Song).
60s: Beatles, Cream, Hendrix, Byrds, etc
70s: ELP, ELO, prime Queen, Wings, Badfinger, Uriah Heep, etc
90s: Oasis, Mariah Carey, The Verve, Cranberries, Sarah McLachlan, Alanis Morissette
