Trump will damage the Republican party for many years to come which the Democrats love now they have worked out what mess he will make of their opposition. Bad for US democracy to have a one party state but until the Republicans can learn to let go of the idiot you all will suffer.

It is never good to have one party in power for a long time.

Good points on the Republican party, and the pitfalls of a one-party political system.

I would add however, that it's the current trend toward extremism that is hurting U.S. democracy and the nation as a whole. "Middle-ground" or moderate views are nothing but lip service. More and more, people are flocking toward extreme positions, like soldiers to battlefield trenches.

I've always leaned more conservative than liberal. "Leaned" being the operative word, because in some issues I side totally with the left. But notice how none of this includes any names. Nowadays, it's impossible to discuss U.S. politics without naming names. It isn't politics anymore. It's fanboyism, similar to the fanboyism we have in boxing. You latch onto a personality... and damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead. Doesn't matter if they fukk up or not. Like Minions, people will mindlessly continue to give their unwavering support.

    I'll add something else.

Trump has thoroughly damaged the Republican party. But at the same time, some of the mindless liberalism taking over society nowadays is hurting the Democratic one. All you have to do is keep up with the news and some of the issues being thrashed around.

All of this, and not a TRUE LEADER in sight on either side.

Saw this on FB and just had to share it.
    Applies perfectly to Trump's Minions.

There's no question all the looney liberal stuff is damaging for the Democratic party but it's not entirely fair. It's not like they've passed the We're Going To Cut Your Teenage Son's Ball Off And Turn Him Into A Tranny Swimmer Act or the Here's Some More Of That Good Welfare That Only Black People Get And It's Only For Black People Again Racial Justice Act. Or forcing you to pick a new gender or having to learn what cisgender is or whatever. You have a load of looney stuff which is prevalent in a tiny part of the liberal side. It's just this tiny part is good at making themselves visible and good at injecting their issues into American culture. The right wing then go "all liberals are like this" and it isn't true. There were a couple of lefty culture warriors in the last democratic primary, people who got swept up by the idea that these ideas were popular and winning issues because they're overrepresented in the culture but the democratic base wanted nothing to do with them and voted for moderate old Joe Biden.

I'm struggling to think of any lefty gender/racial justice/whatever issue Biden, Pelosi or Schumer has put any political capital behind at all. They haven't done a thing about any of the issues that are blowing up in the culture wars apart from just boilerplate language about supporting equal rights for minorities of whatever group.

I'd forgotten about this. Just perfect:

In a phone call in late 2020,President Donald Trump tried to pressure Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) to overturn the state’spresidential election results, saying that if enough fraudulent votes could be found it would overcome Trump’s narrow loss in Arizona, according to three people familiar with the call.

    [...]

Trump phoned the governor’s cellphone on Nov. 30,2020, as Ducey was in the middle of signing documents certifying President Biden’s win in the state during a live-streamed video ceremony. Trump’s outreach was immediately clear to those watching. They heard “Hail to the Chief” play on the governor’s ringtone. Ducey pulled his phone from out of his suit jacket, muted the incoming call and put his phone aside. On Dec. 2,he told reporters he spoke to the president after the ceremony, buthe declined to fully detail the nature of the conversation. Ducey said the president had “an inquisitive mind”but did not ask the governor to withhold his signature certifying the election results.

But four people familiar with the call said Trump spoke specifically about his shortfall of more than 10,000 votes in Arizona and then espoused a range of false claims that would show he overwhelmingly won the election in the state and encouraged Ducey to study them. At the time, Trump’s attorneys and allies spread false claims to explain his loss, including that voters who had died and noncitizens had cast ballots.

After Trump’s call to Ducey, Trump directed Pence, a former governor who had known Ducey for years, to frequently check in with the governor for any progress on uncovering claims of voting improprieties, according to two people with knowledge of the effort.

You should see that from your high up view.
I know he is a filthy rich billionaire but he is not part of that same club he is an outsider he was never in politics his entire life how can he be part of the same Washington political group of elites? People like Bill Clinton and George Bush and Obama and Joe Biden are part of the Washington DC elite political group since the 1960s and 1970s. Donald Trump was never part of that group that's why they hate him so much and attack him so much. Even though he is a billionaire he is definitely an outsider in terms of politics. But in terms of being a billionaire I agree he is part of the billionaires club. But there is a difference there and that's why they attacked him so viciously. He doesn't care about the special interests the way they do and that's why they hate him.
From this 300 000 feet view you have what exactly has Donald Trump done that show you he's different from your standard issue Republican president? Actions, not words.

Just in the New York Times:

President Biden memorably jumped the gun on Barack Obama in endorsing same-sex marriage more than a decade ago, but at a June fund-raiser near San Francisco, he couldn’t recall the letters L.G.B.T.Q.And even as the Democratic Party makes the fight for abortion rights central to its political message, Mr. Biden last week declared himself “not big on abortion.”
At a moment when the American political parties are trading fierce fire from the trenches of a war over social and cultural policy, the president is staying out of the fray.
White, male, 80 years old and not particularly up-to-date on the language of the left, Mr. Biden has largely avoided becoming enmeshed in contemporary battles over gender, abortion and other hotly contested social issues — even as he does things like hosting what he called “the largest Pride Month celebration ever held at the White House.”

He didn't appoint any trans person to his cabinet. He appointed an eminently qualified person to a deputy head of department job, a small gesture that in the current climate is just showing a bit of basic decency and recognition towards a marginalised and vulnerable minority of people who are currently on the end of a vicious hate campaign from the country's conservative movement.

Just out of interest, why is appointing somebody qualified for the job but who happens to be transexual so upsetting to you? Surely these people should be allowed to exist and participate in life like everybody else no? They should have the same rights as everybody else?

There must be one concrete thing that he did that you like that you can point to that any other president Republican or otherwise wouldn't have done. Other than the white nationalism stuff obviously. One thing?

Wow. You could write political speeches, or sell cars. That's not a slight. It's a compliment.

I don't believe in checking boxes or filling quotas. I'm sure there were plenty of more qualified people to get that job. But that's Biden... bending over backwards to appease a very noisy, pushy, aggressive minority. I believe you show decency and recognition making wise decisions on policies. Policies that protect the civil rights of groups like these, while at the same time protecting the rights of the larger segment of society which finds itself on the receiving end of a LOT of outrageous demands. Once again... it's one thing to fight to protect your own rights to NOT be discriminated against. It's quite another to INVADE areas of society and attempt to FORCE change where it doesn't belong, thus pushing around mainstream people who have no beef with you.

What you see as a "hate campaign" I see as an inevitable backlash to a torrent of outlandish nonsense. This popular mantra of "live and let live" is the lazy man's way out of having to confront the ridiculousness of a very minor, but pushy group.

Should they be allowed to exist? The question doesn't even need to be asked. Should they have the same rights as everybody else? Absolutely. Should they be allowed to dictate what my kids are taught in elementary school besides the traditional subject matter? Hell no. Should they be allowed to take kids to transgender clinics when little boys say they feel like girls at 5 years old? Or when a girl plays with boys or like boys? Something formerly known as a tomboy? Hell no. Should they be allowed to invade women's sports and beauty pageants? Hell no. Should they be allowed to demand a rewrite of classic works, like superhero comic books and other such things? Hell no.

This is a matter of personal preference. I've long since established mine.

By the way... just to be clear.

I have absolutely NO ISSUES with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. None. As long as he does his job in a competent manner... it's all good.

My issues are with the appointment of Assistant Secretary of Health Rachel (cough) Levine.

Box checked... quota filled. Weak backbone for a POTUS.

If the Republicans had anyone other than Trump up there as candidate, I'd favor him/her.

Biden's old, and nothing but a retread from the past. Dems had FOUR YEARS to come up with a decent candidate.

Nothing else need be said about the sorry state of affairs in U.S. politics for the last decade and change.

Those words have stuck around in my mind for a little while.

    Sounds great.

Here's another take on that "vulnerable minority."

Piers Morgan might be viewed as a jerk by the left. But this particular interview is spot on.

Shit. I'll sign up for this "groundswell" of backlash coming from people who, as they well put it, "have long since been cowed into silence."
