Boxing In Germany: WBO King Stieglitz Decisions Ornelas In Dresden

There was a good fight card last night at Freiberger Arena in Dresden, with WBO super middle ruler Robert Stieglitz overcoming the stern challenge of Mexican visitor Enrique Ornelas.

Stieglitz used his sharp boxing skills to post an early lead over the oncoming challenger but the aggression of Ornelas forced the champion to expend a lot of energy while using the stick and move approach.

By the middle rounds, Stieglitz was forced to fight Ornelas, who took advantage of the champion’s lack of mobility and won rounds in an impressive fashion, landing with both hands.

But Ornelas didn’t have the power to really hurt Stieglitz, who survived the bad stretch and regained control of the contest by the later rounds.

Stieglitz swept the judge’s scores by margins of 117-111 on all three cards and retains the WBO strap for the third time while Ornelas, 30-7 (20), has now lost three of his last five bouts.

Chief support was provided by WBO, WIBF and WBF Female super feather champion Ramona Kuehne, 17-1 (5), winning a ten round title defense on points over previously undefeated ex-WIBA featherweight boss Irma Balijagic Adler, 21-1 (5).

Light heavy Denis Simcic, 25-1 (14), beat Jindrich Velecky, 17-12 (16), over ten frames for the WBF Intercontinental crown.

Former cruiserweight Simcic has now won six straight while ex-WBF International super middle ruler Velecky has now dropped seven of his last eight fights.
