WBC Super Featherweight Champion Marco Antonio Barrera, 63-4 (42), opened up his camp to the media as he finalizes training for his March 17 HBO PPV bout against two time world featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez, 46-3-1 (35), at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas,
According to Barrera’s trainer Rudy Perez, things are going great. “This is the best training camp that we have ever had,” said Perez.
The Baby Faced Assassin said that he is feeling good and is currently at 131 pounds. When asked, he informed the media that he sees no problems making weight for the fight.
The champ also said that he had been watching a lot of tape of Marquez in preparation for the fight. “I am going to have an answer for him, for anything that he tries to do,” said Barrera.
Barrera has worked out all the possibilities with a gang of sparing partners, who were also on hand. “They each bring something to the mix, and that way he will be ready for anything that Marquez chooses to do,” said Perez.
Helping Barrera to prepare for his upcoming championship bout include former WBC Featherweight Champion Guty Espadas, 38-7 (24), undefeated prospect Brandon Rios, 14-0 (11), Rudy Lopez 19-3-1 (13) and Japanese National Super Featherweight Champion Yusuke Kobori 19-2-1 (11), all of whom are preparing for their own upcoming bouts.
Preparations for the fight are being held at Sugar Shane Mosley’s training facility in the beautiful mountains of Big Bear, California and Team Barrera can appreciate the advantages of training in the scenic locale. “The altitude is very high and you can get into shape easier,” said Perez. “There are also many less distractions surrounding the fighters.”
It is clear that Barrera is relaxed and ready to go, “Marquez better be ready for it,” said the champ before beginning his workout, “he is going to have his hands full on fight night.”
