In the biggest bout of his career to date, former 2004 Olympic Gold Medal winner Andre Ward pulled off a superb performance to control the action against dangerous opponent Edison Miranda over twelve rounds at super middle for a points verdict at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA.
Fighting in front of a motivated home-crowd, Ward asserted his authority from the first bell and immediately staked his claim to being the bigger, faster, stronger fighter against Miranda.
Ward was constantly moving and never really let Miranda get set, peppering the former middleweight world title challenger with jabs and powershots to the head and body.
Miranda had his moments during the contest but was never able to sustain an offense. When he did connect, he wasn't able to put a dent in his younger opponent and with that, his hopes of winning the bout evaporated.
Ward was able to keep the ball rolling for all twelve rounds and by the time it was all over, the 25 year old had taken home a 119-109, 119-109 and 116-112 points victory.
Local hero Ward retains his NABA and NABF belts and moves to 19-0 (12), while Miranda loses for the second time in his last four bouts to drop to 32-4 (28).
On the undercard, lightweight John Molina, 17-0 (13), stopped veteran Frankie Archuleta, 25-7-1 (14), in the second in what seemed to be an early finish to the contest.
