\”Pretty Boy\” Becomes King.

By Rich Saavedra June 26th, 2005 All Boxing Articles

Wow! That is all I can say about “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather. Floyd’s performance was superb as he totally dismantled and outclassed, as well as humiliated Arturo “Thunder” Gatti. Actually, Floyd Mayweather humiliated everybody that predicted him getting knocked out by Arturo Gatti, including myself as I stated that Gatti was going to knock out Mayweather by the fifth round. Well as you all know by now, “Pretty Boy” Floyd was the one doing all the knocking out, but instead of the fifth, it was a sixth round technical knockout as Arturo had no more “Thunder” left to give. Floyd Mayweather did exactly what he said he was going to do to Gatti; basically, he destroyed one of my favorite all-time fighters. More...

Gatti-Mayweather: Who Will Prevail to Greatness?

By Rich Saavedra June 23rd, 2005 All Boxing Articles, Boxing Previews
On Saturday, June 25, boxing fans will be in for a treat. Oh and what a treat it is going to be as Arturo “Thunder” Gatti will finally be squaring off against Floyd “Pretty Boy” Mayweather Jr. in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This fight should be one for the ages; on one side you have pound-for-pound one of the most talented boxers ever seen

and across the ring you have a blood and guts warrior who is willing to die in the ring before losing. Let me start with Floyd Mayweather Jr. What can I say about this gifted athlete? In my opinion, Floyd has mastered the art of boxing and stands on a totally different level when it comes to defense. The only thing that makes it hard to like Floyd Mayweather is his cockiness and his ongoing problems outside the ring. His cockiness is a turn-off, but his problems outside the ring should not matter to anybody because they are nobodies business but Floyd’s; that is intruding on a man’s life and hey, haven’t we all made mistakes in life? So on that note, I’m leaving that alone and just going to talk about what Mayweather needs to do in order to get a victory over Arturo Gatti. For one, Floyd is going to need a football helmet because Arturo is looking to knock his head off.

You'll have to keep up as SaddoBoxing takes its big fight build-up to the next level with more previews of this weekend's super-fight. More...

Review Analysis: Tarver-Johnson II/Quartey-Phillips.

By Rich Saavedra June 22nd, 2005 All Boxing Articles

Antonio Tarver once again proved to the boxing world that “they gave the wrong man a second chance.” Tarver defeated Glen “The Road Warrior” Johnson by unanimous decision. Throughout rounds one through five, Tarver totally out-boxed Johnson, leaving “The Road Warrior” confused and most importantly, behind on the scorecards. Rounds six through eleven, Johnson finally picked up the pace, especially in the eleventh round when he almost had an exhausted Tarver on the canvas, but it was not enough as “The Magic Man” won some of those rounds as well. In the twelfth and final round, Antonio Tarver came out and scored some quick points, enough to secure him the round. The only thing Glen Johnson could do at that point was to chase Tarver around the ring hoping to catch him with one good punch, but Tarver boxed very smartly, throwing a couple of punches and clinching for dear life throughout the entire final round. Hey, I can’t knock the guy because like it or not, that was the smart thing to do as he was exhausted and may I also add, way ahead on the scorecards. More...

Review Analysis: Cotto-Abdulaev, Casamayor Raiymkulov.

By Rich Saavedra June 14th, 2005 All Boxing Articles

Miguel Cotto redeemed himself once again! He out-boxed and picked apart Mohamad Abdulaev in such an impressive showing, that Cotto’s next fight should be with either Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton, Zab “Super” Judah or the winner of the Gatti-Mayweather Jr. mega-fight coming up on June 25 . It wasn’t quite like his bout with Kelson Pinto where Cotto destroyed him in four rounds, but it was a good, technical fight and in the middle of the ninth round, Abdullaev signaled to the referee and to his corner that he could not continue due to his right eye completely closing on him. Mohamad Abdulaev held his own throughout the fight and even had Cotto hurt in a couple of occasions, but like I predicted, Cotto was too much for Abdulaev. More...

Final Thoughts on Hatton-Tszyu.

Well, add another upset to the books. Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton defeated Kostya Tszyu by technical knockout after the end of the eleventh round. Tszyu didn’t come out for the twelfth and final round; he had had enough and told his corner-men to call the fight. After the battle, Tszyu said in his interview that he

has always been fair to himself and that he knew he was behind on the scorecards by three or four rounds, and that’s why he decided not to come out for the final round. Well to me, that’s being a coward. A real champion, no matter how bad he was loosing on the scorecards, would NEVER quit, especially on the last round of a mega-fight! More...
