Default Golovkin ..... unsung good guy

I didn't know this, as it was done quietly and without fanfare.

GGG had over 350 amateur bouts, one of which was against Edward Gutnecht who was severely disabled against George Groves.

Golovkin donated his robe and gloves he wore in his superfight with Canelo Alvarez, plus £18,000 into a fund for Gutnecht.

I wondered what happened to Groves opponent.

Gutnecht took a frightful and painful beating in that fight.

People wondered if that fight affected Groves fortunately it did not and he won a title. I am sure Groves has done something to support his former injured opponent.

Prize fighters can be good guys very sad when a boxer gets injured boxing is very unforgiving and lucky theses injuries are few and far between,! considering how many bouts there are from week to week around the world.
GGG always seems to be very respectfully to his opponents and fans good on him.

Let's hope Golovkin gets the victory he deserves over Canelo this year.

Again this is why boxing governing bodies are a disgrace. Gutnecht family left broke after a man almost died dedicating his life to the sport. 10% of every professional boxers purse should go into a fund for injured/retired boxers unable to work elsewhere.

To be honest after getting 15-20 million for the canelo fight giving 18k to a former opponents family isnt a particularly generous. I know its better than nothing but if you are really concerned why not donate/help raise enough that would allow his family to look after him properly for years to come.

It was done without publicity or fanfare, how nice, glad no-one will ever know, thankfully it wasn't leaked to the press. The saintly philanthropic nature of the rich and famous. It warms your heart.

18 grand aint shit to GGG the promoters and managers should be made to pay all medical fees every show should be paying in to a universal fund to support injured fighters.
