Default Longer bans for doping cheats

BBC Sport - Minimum ban for doping increased from two years to four

4 years is very long if you get caught, career ending no doubt

All proven abusers should receive a lifetime ban That would fix the problem if the testing is done independently

People make mistakes and learn from it though, a longer ban is a good deterrent I think.

I'd support a longer ban but some of the culprits seem to get it swept under the carpet Guillermo Jones, Toney fought 6 months after the Ruiz fight etc

    I disagree.

Most professional boxers use steroids today, at some point in career it would be closer to all professional boxers.

The sport now dictates they have to!

It would not be possible to perform the level of training required for elite competition these days for most boxers without drugs. Sickness, injury, fatigue and a degradation of muscle tissue would result.

I do agree with short bans and I do agree with testing of course. I am not preaching that drugs are good for the sport but they are a fact of life now and you can't have an array of top boxers careers terminated because they didn't beat the test and others who did remain.

The sport itself doesn't dictate everyone use PEDs, PED users are dictating others use PEDs.

    Yeah that is correct.

    And unfortunate.

It is especially true of a blood sport like boxing as well, where the difference between winning and losing is not merely defeat, but pain and health.

This is why it is allowed to continue. People with attitudes like this.

Looks a little window dressing like. Like to know how they plan on instituting to enforce. There are only about 3 labs in the world capable.

I suppose the threat of being busted somewhere down the road and losing all might be deterrent enough should they impose real random testing.

Nothing like winning a couple of world titles only to have test come back over a year late proving you were hot when you won them.

That kind of shame is off the charts.

That's different though, because it was an "out of competition" test, which only goes for PED's, not recreational drugs like cocaine.

There have been several MMA guys who have tested positive for PED's in an "out of competition" test and were not allowed to fight and punished.

Yeah that's all true, I know people would be absolutely shocked if they knew all the boxers who have or are using some type of PED.

Most fans like to live in the fantasy world that it doesn't happen, or only "bad guys" do it. It's a big problem in all competitive sports and has been for quite a while.
