    Default More on Rahman-Toney!

Additional details have been released for the July 16 heavyweight crossroads rematch between former heavyweight champions Hasim Rahman and James Toney. The bout, billed as "Last Chance," will be for the NABO heavyweight belt and be televised live on FSN's "Best Damn Sports Show Period" from the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California. The event, which is presented by Goossen Tutor Promotions, Don King Productions and in association with Top Rank, will be officially announced on Thursday in Los Angeles. Toney and Rahman previously faced each other in March 2006, fighting for then-champion Rahman's WBC heavyweight title. The fight ended in a controversial draw.

Im a big Toney fan but god only knows what he has left. Peter beat him no question last time out and its been ages since the Batchelder debacle. I hope Toney can beat Rahman up, but its anyones guess how he will look.

Unfortunately for Toney, he doesn't have enough power to make Rahman expend himself like he did in two losing efforts against Maskaev. Rahman was smart enough in their first bout to hang back when Toney laid on the ropes rather than wasting energy with meaningless punches. I think the onus will be on Toney, twice busted for steroids, battling with his weight and 40 years old to do SOMETHING. The judges, sadly, will be leaning toward the very scrubby Rahman by virtue of him being a warm body. Toney has to be fast-handed, fantastic on defense and able to either make Rahman look bad with speed and defense and/or buckle his knees a time or two with power shots. Both seem highly improbable, but Toney's speed and defense seem the more likely of the two.

But whether Toney wins or Rahman wins, isn't it still just tantamount to winning the Gold in the Special Olympics?

In all seriousness, the winner of this fight will earn themselves a pretty decent future paycheck, since I'm guessing the winner will be Haye's upcoming opponent.

    Oh, in that case...

Well the savior of the heavyweight division better hope Rahman wins. A powerful, yet slow HW who will be right there for him to jump on and impress. Toney might just make things awkward for him. Haye squats and hangs his chin right out there and Toney will blast him on the button with hooks in between his shots.

How cool would that be...first Toney, turning back the time beats Rahman and then scores a (t)ko against Haye...

I see no point in this match-up honestly. I thought Rahman beat Toney last time around. It was just about the worst heavyweight fight I've seen in a long while except for Ruiz Golota.

If the winner goes on to fight Haye, I'm actually interested. I've said in the past Toney would not be a good matchup for Haye assuming he has ANYTHING left, and he'll need to show something to win this fight. I could almost see another Carl Thompson episode as Haye most surely wouldn't get him out of there early, Toney could just take him to the mid-late rounds and show him some things he hasn't seen before. Im probably just thinking wishfully at this point, but it's just for the fact that Toney at his best would've schooled Haye, even at HW. Now I have no idea whether he has anything left, or will even train seriously. Didn't see his last fight which was apparently a terrible showing, even though he was using steroids. Doesn't look good for him that's for sure.

...I'm hoping the winner of this fight fights David Haye or the winner of Witherspoon-Arreola!

Well, now that there's a fringe-title on the line and the latest name will be lining up to fight the winner I see the point of this fight. I wanna like David Haye, but there are machinations hard at work, trying to keep me from it.
