O’Shaquie Foster Drops Emanuel Navarrete Twice to Unify Three Titles
O’Shaquie Foster left San Antonio with all three super featherweight titles after a unanimous decision over Emanuel Navarrete. The late knockdowns made the finish even more dramatic, while Albert Gonzalez and Frank Martin also scored stoppage wins on a busy card.
Main Event
O’Shaquie Foster (26-3-0) outpointed Emanuel Navarrete (40-3-1) over 12 rounds to take the IBF and WBO titles and unify them with his WBC belt.
Navarrete was down twice in the twelfth round, a brutal way for the fight to finish. Foster won by unanimous decision, with the judges scoring it 118-108, 115-111 and 118-108. The spread between the cards is striking, but all three had Foster in front.
Co-Main Event
Unbeaten featherweight Albert Gonzalez (19-0-0) stopped Edward Vazquez (20-4-0) by knockout at 1:04 of the second round to win the North American Boxing Federation featherweight title.
Other Title Fight
Frank Martin (20-1-1) claimed the vacant WBO NABO super lightweight title with a seventh-round TKO of Tarik Zaina (18-4-1). Zaina was down in the round before the contest was stopped at 2:38.
Undercard
Deric Davis (13-0-0) stayed unbeaten, taking an eight-round unanimous decision over Joaquin Silva Faccio (10-2-0). All three judges scored it 80-72.
Daniel III Cortez (14-1-0) edged Joshua Montoya (8-6-2) by split decision after six rounds. Two judges scored it 58-56 for Cortez; the third had it 58-56 for Montoya.
Samuel Contreras (9-0-0) earned a six-round unanimous decision over Oscar Pedroza Padilla (8-3-1), with three 60-54 cards.
Joseph Almajdi (6-1-0) also won by unanimous decision, beating Miqal Dolphus (6-1-1) over six rounds. The judges all scored it 60-54.
Foster’s title-winning decision was the headline, with those two knockdowns in the last round leaving no doubt about the finish. Gonzalez and Martin added stoppage wins of their own.
