Derby Boxer – Ovill McKenzie, took just 15 seconds to demolish Welshman Jeff Evans Friday night – to win the vacant Commonwealth Light-Heavyweight Title. McKenzie (aptly named ‘The Upsetter’!) unleashed a barrage of shots in the opening seconds pressuring Evans back on the ropes then landing a huge right which saw Evans fall heavily backwards. Referee Terry O’Connor stopped the fight immediately and Evans was tended to by ringside Medics.

McKenzie’s record improves to 19 wins (8 by KO) 11 losses (2 by KO), while Evans drops to 8 wins (1 by KO) 2 losses (1 by KO) and 1 draw.

Also on the Wayne Carmichael and Frank Warren promoted show – ‘Del Boy’ Dereck Chisora outpointed Remigijus Ziausys of Lithuania over six rounds of Heavyweight Boxing. Chisora entered the ring to the theme tune to ‘Only Fools and Horses’ and was wearing a union jack emblazoned outfit (!) The Finchley man dominated the Lithuanian with a busier work-rate to win comfortably on points (60-54).

Chisora’s record now stands at 15 wins (9 by KO) and 1 loss (to Tyson Fury last time out).
Ziausys drops to 19 wins (9 by KO) 44 losses (1 by KO) and 3 draws.

Patrick Liam Walsh (Halifax) v Michael Frontin (Edmonton via Mauritius)
8 x 3 Light Welterweight Contest

There was huge support for popular local boxer – Walsh. Both men were busy from the ‘off’ and both men were getting caught (!) The seventh and eighth rounds were the most notable. The seventh sees both men score with decent shots and a great uppercut from Walsh motivates the already rowdy crowd – ‘Walshy, Walshy!’ they cheer !
The local man unleashes the body-shots in the eighth and final round – picking up the work-rate in the closing half minute with a number of head-shots which sees Frontin on unsteady legs. This was Walshes best round ! He gets the points win (79-74) and improves to 9 wins (3 by KO) while Frontin drops to 3 wins 11 losses (2 by KO) and 1 draw.

Tyrone Nurse (Huddersfield) v Ivan Godor (Bratislava, Slovakia)
6 x 3 Light Welterweight Contest

Tall, rangey boxer – Nurse, keeps Godor at bay with the long-reaching left jab. Nurse – the classier looking boxer – lands a notable right in the fifth which lands on target. He picks up the pace in the closing seconds of the fight and Godor goes to his knee. He takes the count but protests that it was a ‘slip’.

Nurse gets the points win (60-53) and improves to 20 wins (3 by KO) no losses, while Godor drops to 6 wins (2 by KO) 18 losses (5 by KO) and 3 draws.

Shuzzy Hussain (Halifax) v James Tucker (Doncaster)
4 x 3 Light Heavyweight Contest

‘Slugger’ Tucker seems to be on a winning streak – securing a third win in a row!
The Doncaster man has found confidence in his big-punch ability and had Hussain on the canvas from a shot to the head in the fourth. Tucker secured the points win and improves to 6 wins (2 by KO) 43 losses (2 by KO) and 3 draws.
Hussain’s record now stands at no wins and 2 losses (1 by KO)

Richard Bitner (Halifax) v Lee Jevons (Swanwick)
4 x 3 Light Middleweight Contest

Bitner gets the points win (39-38) to secure his second pro-win.
Jevons’s record now stands at no wins 3 losses.

Scott Gladwin (Halifax) v Anwar Alfadli (Sheffield)
4 x 3 Bantamweight Contest

Gladwin picked up his fourth pro-win on points (39-37)
Alfadli drops to 1 win 20 losses (2 by KO) and 2 draws.

Eddie Meskry (Bradford) v Chuck Jones (Ferndale, Wales)
4 x 3 Featherweight Contest

A closely fought contest results in a draw (38-38)
Meskry’s record now stands at 2 wins 2 losses (1 by KO) and 1 draw.
Jones’s record now stands at 6 losses and 2 draws.
