ESPN2 Friday Night Fights Undercard Announced

ByStar Boxing 24/05/2013

Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing has put together a stellar Friday Night Fights undercard for tomorrow night’s ESPN Friday Night Fights event at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

ESPN Friday Night Fights is headlined by a sensational ten round IBF North American Junior Middleweight Title clash between longtime New England fan favorite Delvin Rodriguez and former world title challenger Freddy “El Riel” Hernandez of Los Angeles. The live telecast will begin at 10 p.m. ET/ 7p.m. PT.

The televised ten round co-main event features undefeated New York junior welterweight prospect Issouf Kinda battling Chris Howard of Crossville, Tennessee.

Headlining the undercard on Friday night is an eight round junior middleweight battle between undefeated Cleveland prospect Michael Moore and Puerto Rican veteran Doel Carrasquillo.

Sporting a record of 11-0-0 with six knockouts, Moore is certainly going to be making his Mohegan Sun Arena debut following an eight round decision over Chicago veteran Michael Walker in May 2012.

Carrasquillo, 17-23-1 (14KO’s), returns to action following a choice win over Dennis Sharpe on January 31 in Staten Island, New York City.

The Lancaster, Pennsylvania has faced numerous world ranked fighters and undefeated prospects over his 12-year career and holds recent victories over former world title challenger Shamone Alvarez and then undefeated prospect Denis Douglin.

Heavyweight newcomers will also see action on Friday night as undefeated Catskill, New York City resident Constantin Bejenaru will face Buffalo, New York’s Excell Holmes in a scheduled four rounder.

Originally from the Eastern European country of Moldova, Bejenaru, 3-0-0 (2KO’s) is making his third start in 2013, returning to the Mohegan Sun Arena following his victory over DJ Hughley on February 15.

Holmes, 2-1-1 (1KO), makes his first begin in 2013, looking to rebound following a four round loss to Vladimir Goncharov in Moscow, Russia on September 18, 2012.

Super middleweight newcomers Saul Almeida of Framingham, MA and Michael Mitchell of Paterson, New York will battle in a four round tilt.

Almeida, 0-0-0 (1NC), entered the ring for the 1st time as a professional last July, an accidental head-butt suffered against Antonio Marrero resulting in a no-contest.

Fighting to a four round draw against Tony Brinson on APRIL 25 in Albany, New York, Mitchell, 0-1-1, looks for his first win as a pro on Friday night.

Rounding out the ESPN Friday Night Fights undercard, New Haven, Connecticut’s Jimmy Williams, 2-0-0 (1KO), will look to maintain undefeated against Marqus Jackson, 2-9-0 (2KO’s) of Atlanta, Georgia in a four round welterweight bout.

In his last start, Williams won a four round decision over Ray Younger on March 1 at Foxwoods Resort.
