Yesterday at the Hermitage Leisure Centre, Whitwick, Leicestershire, Clifton Mitchell Promotions hosted a bumper afternoon and evening of boxing which was scheduled to feature three Title contests.

Sadly, however, the English Flyweight Title Eliminator between Louis Norman and Terry Broadbent did not go ahead. Both fighters alongside Jason Shinfield got in to the ring mid-way through the schedule to announce that the fight could not go ahead due to a last minute pre-fight medical check. Clifton Mitchell and Jason Shinfield immediately announced the intention to reschedule for the 8th December.

The main event saw Prince David Davis of Ilkeston up against big hitting Jahmaine Smyle of Leicester for the Midlands Area Super-Middleweight Title. Davey Boy kept up the pace against Smyle but could not match the power of his punches and was stopped in the eighth round.

Mark Ketnor of Huncote, Leicestershire, won the vacant International Masters Bronze Middleweight Title by marginally outpointing gutsy Kieron Gray of Telford (78-76).

Also on the Bill entitled ‘Neutral Ground’, Hughie Fury of Manchester scored a points victory over Croatian Hrvoje Kisicek in their six round Heavyweight Contest (60-54).

Results:

Prince David Davis (Ilkeston) v Jahmaine Smyle (Leicester)

Vacant BBBofC Midlands Area Super-Middleweight Title

A thrilling fight to finish the night – sees the crowds on their feet at times inside the Hermitage Leisure Centre. After settling in to the first round – Muscular Smyle has great rounds two and three. Davis lands some low blows and Referee Rob Chalmers tells him ‘No More!’

Davis is landing lefts to the head of Smyle but Smyle’s punches are heavier and Davis’ eyes are swollen and bruised underneath from the force (Smyles left eye is also swelling). The Leicester man gets the tape on his glove seen to in the fifth round and it’s a welcome break for Davis. Boxing resumes but as Davis returns to his corner at the end of the round – he is shaking his head as if frustrated with himself.

After two further low blows in succession – Davis is deducted a point in round seven. He’s taken a lot of head punches and looks like he may not last the round. In the eighth he is on the canvas. He is counted and fighting resumes but is under pressure on the ropes again when Referee Chalmers jumps in to stop the contest.

Smyle wins the Midlands Area Super-Middleweight Belt by eighth round stoppage.

Mark Ketnor (Huncote) v Kieron Gray (Telford)
Vacant International Masters Bronze Middleweight Title

An exciting contest with both men landing shots. Kieron Gray seemed really motivated for this fight and has good rounds five and six – mixing head and body shots, but his left eye is bruised and swollen by the end of the sixth. Gray lands a notable shot in the closing half minute of round seven and both men are looking tired from their efforts.

A good, closely fought, all-action contest, with Ketnor getting the win on points 78-76

Hughie Fury (Manchester) v Hrvoje Kisicek (Croatia)
6 x 3 Heavyweight Contest

Fury used his long-reaching left jab and threw some thumping right shots at Kisicek in round one, but the Croatian was not afraid to ‘have a go’. He was on the back foot in round two as Fury upped the pressure and it looked like it could be an early finish. Little did we know that Kisicek – despite having everything thrown at him throughout the rounds – would still be there at the closing bell!

In fact there were several times when Kisicek could easily have dropped. Fury landed a big right in the third and Kisicek looked wobbled again but he kept going. He took many huge punches while backed up in Fury’s own corner but survived to the bell. Fury was warned for pulling his opponent down in the fifth and for a low blow in the sixth and final round (perhaps the frustration of not seeing his opponent hit the canvas was starting to tell?)

Kisicek catches the Manchester man with a left to the head in the closing seconds of the contest as if as a parting gesture.

Fury gets the points win 60-54.

Olly Newham (Nottingham) v Jody Meikle (Scunthorpe)
6 x 2 Light-Heavyweight Contest

Newham gets the points win 60-54 against Mr. Entertainer – Meikle.

Paul ‘Harry’ Frost (Derby) v Graham Fearn (York)
6 x 2 Lightweight Contest

A close fought contest between these two but it’s a messy round three. Frost is ‘wobbled’ in the fourth round but his opponent, although busier and more accurate, is starting to look tired. Fearn is on the canvas in the fifth round which may have been partially due to a slip on the ringside bumper. He is counted and Frost gets the win on points 58-57.

Sam Sharpe (Loughborough) v David Kealy (Melton Mowbray)
6 x 2 Welterweight Contest

Sam ‘Razor’ Sharpe secures a draw against Kealy 58-58

Bobby Jenkinson (Lincoln) v Brett Fidoe (Fenton)
6 x 2 Bantamweight Contest

Bobby ‘Dazzler’ gets the points win 59-55

Alex Phillips (Derby) v Ben Zacharkiw (Plymouth)
6 x 2 Lightweight Contest

A closely fought contest. Zacharkiw sustains a cut to the corner of the right brow in round five.

Philly wins on points 59-56

Joe Daly (Debut) (Northampton) v Bheki Moyo (Earl’s Court)
4 x 3 Welterweight Contest

Debutant Daly gets his first pro win on points 40-36 against South-African born Moyo.

Jordan King (Debut) (Sunderland) v Egidijus Kakstys (Lithuania)
6 x 2 Light-Heavyweight Contest
