Gervonta defends against Romero – World Boxing Association

The highly anticipated mandatory fight between World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight champion Gervonta Davis and challenger Rolando Romero will take place this Saturday under great anticipation at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Two young and talented fighters will be in the ring in a bout that has sold very well since the promotion began, both Davis and Romero have been very competitive and have promised a knockout.

Gervonta will be making the third defense of his 135-pound crown he won the title on December 28, 2019 by defeating Cuba’s Yuriorkis Gamboa and defended it for the first time in October 2020 against Leo Santa Cruz. His second defense was in December 2021 against Isaac Cruz and now he is for the third defense.

Romero earned the right to challenge Davis due to the fact that he was the interim champion of the category before the pioneering body’s world title reduction plan began. The Cuban-born American has overcome several extra-sporting problems and will finally get his big chance.

Davis is undefeated in 26 fights, with 24 knockouts, while Romero has 14 wins and 12 knockouts.
