Next Saturday, August 31, the two fighters from Anzoátegui state, Venezuela, will meet, where Jonathan Hernández, undefeated, will defend for the fifth time his World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedelatin title against the tough Eddy ‘El Terrible’ Colmenares.
The 10-round Welterweight bout will be the co-main event of the fight between Aldana Florencia López (10-0) and Verónica Ruíz (5-1). The fight will take place at the Federación Argentina de Boxeo (FAB) Stadium in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and will be broadcasted live on TyC Sports.
Jonathan Hernandez’s current status
Born in Cantaura, Venezuela, Jonathan José Hernández, will face his third fight of 2024, after defeating Elías Mauricio Haedo (14-6-0) by unanimous decision earlier this year, and last May he won by knockout in the seventh round against Mariano Agustín Sandoval (8-3-0).
‘Fino’ had a very positive 2023 with a lot of activity in the ring, winning all five of his bouts. In January he defeated Marcelo Agustin Puebla (6-4) by unanimous decision, and two months later he won again, this time by knockout against Dario Domingo Soto (3-3-1).
He won the Fedelatin title in April with a fifth round knockout victory over fellow countryman Kelvinyer Salazar (19-2-1), taking away his perfect record in the ring. Then, he would have his first defence, where he won by knockout in the fifth round against Marcelo Gabriel Sanchez (8-5-3) and to close 2023 he won by knockout against the Colombian, Alan Baleta (7-1-1).
The 29-year-old Hernandez (12-0 / 8 KO) owns a knockout power of over 60%. Also, four of his last five fights have ended by knockout.
Current status of Eddy Colmenares
The native of El Tigre, Venezuela, Eddy Alexander Colmenares, after little activity in recent years, will step into the ring for the second time in 2024, after defeating his compatriot Yeizon Cerezo (0-7) by knockout in the first round in April.
His last fight outside of Venezuela dates back to late 2019, when he lost a split decision in Russia to local Igor Adleiba (14-2-3). However, he returned to winning ways in his only fight of 2020, where he won in his homeland against Lesty Coraspe (0-2) by knockout.
The 27-year-old Colmenares (8-1-1) possesses 100 percent knockout power. He will try to come back in style, looking for his first win abroad, and hitting the table against a tough opponent.
