Yesterday, at the smart Gateway Hotel in Nottingham, England, promoter Frank Maloney hosted the weighin ahead of the Friday Fightnight at the Harvey Hadden Leisure Centre in Nottingham.

Billed as ’Working Class Hero’ the fight night boasts three title fights. Top of the ’bill’ boxing binman, Rendall Munroe, defends his European Super Bantamweight title against mandatory challenger Arsen Martirosian.

Entering the hotel dressed in smart suit and tie – Munroe looked super-sharp, and as he stripped down to his boxer shorts for the weighin – he revealed a well-ripped and toned physique. Coolly confident, Munroe tipped the scales at 8 stone 9 pounds and 12 ounces while opponent Martirosian came in at 8 stone 9 pounds and 8 ounces.

The second title bout, English Lightweight, features Scott Haywood who gets his first title shot against unbeaten Midlander – Dean Harrison. Tattooed Haywood weighed in at 9 stone 13 pounds and 8 ounces. A seemingly ‘quiet‘ Harrison tipped the scales at 9 stone 13 pounds and 6 ounces.

Last to weigh in was a ‘patient’ Martin Gethin as he waited for his opponent – John ‘Fireball’ Fewkes to arrive. Unbeaten Gethin stopped undefeated Nadeem Siddique in July of this year and now had his sights on the vacant English Lightweight title.

With Fewkes nowhere to be seen, an unruffled Gethin weighed in at 9 stone 8 pounds and 10 ounces.

Fewkes arrived forty minutes late and immediately stripped naked for the scales. A pound and 4 ounces over the limit – Fewkes quickly left the weighin area leaving officials to debate over the outcome. Finally officials, boxer and promoter / Managers agreed for the fight to go ahead. If Gethin gets the result tomorrow night – he will have won the title, if Fewkes wins the contest – he cannot have the title it will just go down as a win.

Also weighing in today was Matthew Hatton. Hatton faces Scott Woolford in an 8 round Welterweight Contest. This will be Hattons’ return – having suffered a defeat to Craig Watson at Manchester City Stadium in May. Looking confident and relaxed, ‘Magic’ weighed in at 10 stone 9 pounds, Woolford came in at 10 stone 8 pounds and 4 ounces.

Other weights included:

Light Heavyweights
Adie Whitmore: 12 stone 11 pounds 10 ounces
Bob Ajisafe (late opponent) : 13 stone 2 pounds

Middleweights
Kevin Concepcion: 11 stone 8 pounds 8 ounces
Vepkhia Tchilaia: 11 stone 6 pounds 10 ounces
