Last night at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan, England VIP Promotions and vipboxing.tv presented an evening of professional boxing headlined by the vacant British Masters Light-Heavyweight Championship between Liverpool’s Carl ‘Dynamite’ Dilks and Sheffield’s ‘The Peoples Poet’ – Billy Boyle.

There was big support for both boxers as they came out for this title-clash and it turned out to be a cracker of a contest! Packed full of action – both men kept busy right from the first bell.

Dilks landed heavy, powerful body-shots with regularity and we wondered how Boyle was managing to soak them up! Bouncing off the ropes – Dilks would launch his long reaching left and rights at Boyle’s head. It was an ‘even’ round four which sees both men score with shots to head and body.

Boyle landed a peach of a right which landed bang on the nose in the fifth and Dilks went back to his corner at the end of the frame with his face bloodied from it.

‘Dilksy, Dilksy’, the now-standing supporters of the Liverpool boxer cheer.

Another ‘even’ round six as Dilks slams more punches into Boyle’s torso and the Sheffield man returns by dipping low and landing a body-shot of his own.

Fighting gets a bit messy in the latter rounds as both men ‘held on’, so referee Steve Gray pulled them both together to get them to ‘tidy it up’ a bit. Boyle throws a wild swinging shot which almost has him spinning around and he gives a huge grin.

Dilks keeps busy to the end with both men giving it their all in the tenth and final round.

Dilks wins the British Masters Light-Heavyweight title by a margin of 99-93 and improves to 13 wins (4 by KO) and 1 loss. Boyle’s record now stands at 12 wins (7 by KO) and 3 losses (1 by KO).

Nick Quigley (Liverpool) v Karl Allen (Wolverhampton)
4 x 3 Welterweight Contest

Quigley had a good testing fight against experienced tough-guy Allen. Allen covers up briefly after a decent left to the face, but the resilient Wolverhampton man goes in with some body-shots to keep younger, taller Quigley on his toes!

Quigley gets the points win 40-36 and improves to 4 wins with no losses while veteran Allen’s record now stands at 18 wins (5 by KO), 83 losses (14 by KO) and 7 draws.

Jon Kays (Ashton-under-Lyne) v Anthony Hanna (Birmingham)
4 x 3 Super Featherweight Contest

‘2Smokes’ Kays concentrates on the long-reaching left to get a points win, 40-36, over experienced Hanna.

Kays improves to 9 wins (2 by KO) and 1 loss while veteran Hanna’s record stands at 22 wins (8 by KO), 86 losses (4 by KO) and 8 draws.

Steven Jennings (Liverpool) v Henry Janes (Cardiff)
4 x 3 Lightweight Contest

It was a quick night’s work for Liverpudlian Jennings. A straight right followed by a body-shot sees Janes on the canvas twice before being stopped by referee Michael Alexander inside the first round.

Jennings wins by TKO round 1 and improves to 2 wins (1 by KO), no losses. Janes’ record now stands at 7 wins (1 by KO) and 16 losses (5 by KO).

Jack Arnfield (Blackpool) v Lee Noble (Barnsley)
6 x 3 Light Middleweight Contest

Jack Arnfield ran to the ring for this six round contest! This was a good testing fight for the young Blackpool boxer. Up against tough ‘Lightening’ Noble – the rangey Arnfield kept focussed – picking his punches – uppercuts and hooks to the body, with long reaching shots to the head.

No ‘pushover’ – Noble always looks strong and landed some solid shots, his straight right ploughing through the middle of Arnfield’s guard. Arnfield’s nose is bloody by the end of the contest.

Arnfield wins on points 40-37 and improves to 11 wins (3 by KO) and no losses. Noble’s record now stands at 10 wins (2 by KO) and 11 losses (1 by KO).

That was just the truth. Yes, Itauma has great power. But Filip was in there training with, arguably, the hardest hitter the division has ever seen. He could never be afraid of Itauma. That was a critical mental edge Filip had over Itauma. 5 posts - 4 participants Read full topic […]
