Saturday night, at the MEN Arena, Manchester, Khan Promotions / Hatton Promotions and Golden Boy hosted a fight-night which featured three Title fights besides the main event.

Rendall ‘2Tone’ Munroe (aka The Boxing Binman’) from Leicester, faced Belarusian – Andrei Isaeu for the WBA International Super-Bantamweight Title.

Popular Munroe was fighting for the first time since his World Title Clash with Toshiaki Nishioka in Japan six months ago, when Munroe put in a gutsy and respectable performance against the Champion but missed out by a Unanimous Points Decision.

Munroe has recently signed with Hatton Promotions and was thrilled to get the chance to fight for another Title after the disappointment of Tokyo.

It was great to hear legendary Michael Buffer announce Munroe as the ‘Boxing Binman’! and as usual – ‘2Tone’ received a warm reception from the thousands packed in to the MEN Arena.

It was an evenly matched contest between these two, but Munroe ‘looked’ the Champion. Getting off to a good start – the Southpaw from Leicester looked comfortable in the ring – looking intently focussed but calm as he faced Isaeu. A steady first three rounds for Munroe as he settled in.

The start of the fourth sees a delay as Isaeu forgets the gum-shield, but he quickly resumes fighting – putting Munroe under pressure in the first minute of the fourth as he offloads a flurry of shots and Munroe is forced to cover up momentarily. The attack is short-lived though as Munroe immediately comes back at the Belarusian with body-shots.

It’s a better round four for Isaeu who forces Munroe on the back-foot for part of the fifth before Munroe lands a peach of a left to the head of his opponent mid-way through the round. The shot snaps back the head of Isaeu but still he walks forward. It’s a close round five.

Munroe has Isaeu backed against the ropes mid-way through the sixth round for at least half a minute, but although Munroe is pressuring his opponent – Isaeu continues to ‘give it back’. The round ends with Munroe still forcing Isaeu against the ropes.

Iseau ‘picks it up’ in the eleventh and lands a right to the head of Munroe then – this time – it is Isaeu who forces Munroe back on the ropes. He lands another decent right but Munroe looks unfazed by it.

It’s been a pretty close contest but Munroe looked the busier and with the more notable punches.

Rendall Munroe wins the WBA International Super-Bantamweight Title by Unanimous Points Decision (115-114; 116-112; 117-112).

Munroe’s record now stands at 22 wins (9 by KO) and 2 losses, while Isaeu drops to 23 wins (7 by KO) 3 losses (1 by KO)
