Boxing Results: Denton Vassell Vs Samuel Colomban

Denton Vassell (Manchester) v Samuel Colomban (Melbourne, Australia)
Commonwealth (British Empire) Welterweight Title.

This was Vassell’s second defence of the title he won in April last year. Vassell got off to a busy start and started targeting the body in the second round but some of the shots are low and in the third – the home-fighter gets a point deducted. It seems to ‘fire’ both men up as they ‘go at each other’ and Colomban picks up the pace. Vassell has picked up a cut to the left brow. Both men started out – fighting close-up and tangling together but they put a bit more distance between them after the first three rounds and Colomban begins to look more motivated. It’s a decent round nine for Vassell as he ups the pace then offloads some heavier body-punches in the tenth.

Vassell wins by Unanimous Points Decision (117-112; 116-112; 116-112) to retain the title. He improves to 19 wins (9 by KO) no losses, while Colomban drops to 20 wins (10 by KO) and 4 losses.

Referee Steve Gray jumps in to stop the contest.
