Boxing Results: Denton Vassell Vs Samuel Colomban

ByJane Warburton 15/11/201112/05/2013

Denton Vassell (Manchester) v Samuel Colomban (Melbourne, Australia)
Commonwealth (British Empire) Welterweight Title.

This was Vassell’s second defence of the title he won in April last year. Vassell got off to a busy start and started targeting the body in the second round but some of the shots are low and in the third – the home-fighter gets a point deducted. It seems to ‘fire’ both men up as they ‘go at each other’ and Colomban picks up the pace. Vassell has picked up a cut to the left brow. Both men started out – fighting close-up and tangling together but they put a bit more distance between them after the first three rounds and Colomban begins to look more motivated. It’s a decent round nine for Vassell as he ups the pace then offloads some heavier body-punches in the tenth.

Vassell wins by Unanimous Points Decision (117-112; 116-112; 116-112) to retain the title. He improves to 19 wins (9 by KO) no losses, while Colomban drops to 20 wins (10 by KO) and 4 losses.

Matty Askin (Blackpool) v Roman Kracik (Czech Republic)
10 x 3 Cruiserweight Contest

A tentative start from both men, but Askin drives through Kracik’s guard to target the head. In the third Askin slams in a body-shot followed by an upper-cut and Kracik looks bothered by it, as he hesitates – Askin reacts – going after the Czech landing with head shots as Kracik cowers away from him. Referee Steve Gray jumps in to stop the contest.

Askin improves to 12 wins (8 by KO) while Kracik drops to 33 wins (19 by KO) 8 losses (3 by KO) and 1 draw.

Paul Truscott (Middlesbrough) v Graeme ‘Dezzie’ Higginson (Blackburn)
8 x 3 Super Featherweight Contest

Truscott forced the retirement of Higginson in round 5. Higginson citing a damaged eardrum.

Truscott improves to 18 wins (3 by KO) 2 losses (2 by KO) while Higginson drops to 13 wins (4 by KO) 10 losses (4 by KO) and 1 draw.

Kieran Farrell (Heywood) v Youssef Al Hamidi (Dewsbury)
6 x 3 Lightweight Contest

‘Vicious’ Kieran Farrell gets the points win 60-54. He improves to 11 wins (2 by KO) while Al Hamidi drops to 9 wins (1 by KO) 39 losses (1 by KO) and 2 draws.

James Dickens (Liverpool) v James Ancliff (Perth, Scotland)
6 x 3 Featherweight Contest

‘Jazza’ Dickens forces the retirement of Ancliff in round 2. The Liverpool man looked sharp and scored a knockdown just inside the opening minute of the contest and then again in the closing twenty seconds. Ancliff was getting caught a lot and his legs looked stiff from the first round. His corner retire him at the end of the second round.

Dickens improves to 6 wins (2 by KO) while Ancliff drops to 11 wins (2 by KO) 18 losses (6 by KO) and 2 draws.

Adam Little (Blackpool) v Billy Smith (Worcester)
4 x 3 Welterweight Contest

New Trainer – Ricky Hatton, was pleased to see his charge secure a points win (40-36) over veteran Smith. Little improves to 4 wins (1 by KO) while Smith drops to 12 wins 106 losses (8 by KO) and 2 draws.

Kieran Maher (Hattersley) v Gavin Putney (Luton)
