Boxing Info: David Haye

ByBoxing Press 13/07/2006

David Haye said from his training camp yesterday that he was looking forward to fighting in what is the fight capital of British boxing, Manchester.

Manchester has seen many great fights over the past few years and has taken the shine away from London for boxing. Haye tops the bill on 21st at the Altrincham Leisure and the show sees the start of a new generation of Manchester fighters looking to establish themselves and keep Manchester in the forefront of British boxing, alongside boxers like Ricky Hatton, Anthony Farnell, Michael Gomez and Michael Brodie.

Altrincham Leisure Centre sees Manchester newest prospect Mark Thompson stepping up to his first six threes. In his last fight he stopped Alex Stoda in one round. Stoda was the man who stopped London prospect Sam Webb at the end of May.

Thompson who has quickly progressed to 7-0 is looking to establish himself among Britain’s leading welterweights and light-middleweights and will be keeping an eye on London’s Anthony Small who is also on the bill.

Also stepping across the county lines is Yorkshire’s rising star John Fewkes who will be bringing an army of Yorkshiremen to Lancashire with him looking to follow in the footsteps of Paul Ingle, Naseem Hamed and Herol Graham.

The rest of the undercard is made up of some of Manchester brightest young prospects.

And having his second pro fight on the bill is Chris Pacy, former ABA champion and star of Army boxing known as ‘Soldier Boy’ and the eagerly awaited debut of 2005 ABA welterweight champion Brett Fourney who hails from the Brian Hughes’ gym in Collyhurst that has produced many top Manchester fighters.

David Haye is backed up by British light-middleweight champion Jamie Moore who has fully recovered and is looking to put on a sparkling performance to answer his critics and come the end of the summer he will topping the bill himself against Matthew Macklin in an eagerly awaited
British light-middlweight title clash.

Haye was quoted as saying yesterday “On the 21st July just before the majority of people go on holiday, I am going to give the British fans something to cheer about after a bad few months of British sport for football and cricket fans out there. I am going to show that British
fighters are number one and I will put a smile on their faces as they chill out on the beaches.

Tickets for the show, which cost £35 outer ring or £75 ringside can be purchased from the box office on 0871 226 1508 or online at http://www.,maloneypromotions.com
