  • Molina vs. Charlo Cancelled On Canelo vs. Angulo Fight Card

    As of Friday morning, Carlos Molina has officially become unavailable for his junior middleweight championship title defense against Jermall Charlo, originally scheduled for tomorrow night.

    In light of these circumstances, the 10-round lightweight showdown between Ricardo “Dinamita” Alvarez and Sergio “Yeyo” Thompson has been elevated as the opening bout of the four-fight Showtime PPV presentation of “Toe To Toe: Canelo vs. Angulo” at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

    The 32-year-old Alvarez (23-2-3, 13 KOs), a lightweight contender and brother of Canelo, will face the power punching, 30-year-old Thompson (28-3, 26 KOs) in what is expected to be a slugfest between two Mexican brawlers. (more…)

  • Inspired By Hardship, Angulo Confident Of Knocking Off Canelo

    Underdog Alfredo Angulo is looking to draw on his time spent locked away in a detention centre to help push him to victory over Canelo Alvarez this weekend.

    The man known as ‘El Perro’ spent over seven months in ICE Detention Center in El Centro, California, having voluntarily checked in back in January 2012 due to an expired Visa.

    At the time the light-middleweight star was expecting to stay no more than three days until the issue was sorted but ended up spending a large chunk of 2012 away from his family and boxing. (more…)

  • Light Heavyweight Unification: Hopkins vs. Shumenov April 19

    Washington, D.C. is known as a city where history is made. On Saturday, April 19, another historic event will take place in the nation’s capital when IBF Light Heavyweight Champion Bernard Hopkins faces WBA Champion Beibut Shumenov in an attempt, at 49-years-old, to become the oldest fighter in boxing history to unify world titles.

    The DC Armory, the site of several championship boxing matches in the last year, will host the return of the future Hall of Famer to the capital for the Showtime Championship Boxing main event, 9 p.m. ET/PT delayed on the West Coast. (more…)

    Mexican boxing superstar and former world champion Canelo Alvarez, hard-hitting countryman Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo and “Toe To Toe: Canelo vs. Angulo” pay-per-view undercard fighters worked out in front of a throng of media and adoring fans on Wednesday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena lobby.

    New Zealand To Host Super 8 Heavyweight Tournament

    Sky Arena’s UK representative Mark Dunlop has engaged the services of British & Irish Heavyweights Martin Rogan & Michael Sprott for the world’s biggest ever Super 8 Heavyweight Boxing Tournament, to be held on 4 June 2014 in Auckland, New Zealand.

    Super 8 will be a supercharged boxing event consisting of eight world class fighters competing for a prize pool of £250,000 on one evening. Super 8 will become a regular feature in New Zealand and the world’s professional boxing landscape.

    The Super 8 format will be similar to the UK “Prizefigher”, however, the big difference this time is the prize money on offer with over £100,000 to the winner and £50,000 to the runner up. (more…)

  • Irish Olympians Nolan, O’Neill Win Semi-Final Bouts In Dublin

    London 2012 Olympians Adam Nolan and Darren O’Neill both won their semi-finals at the National Elite Championships at Dublin’s National Stadium tonight.

    Nolan beat Fergal Redmond on a unanimous verdict to move to within one win of his fourth successive welterweight crown.

    And O’Neill, who captained the Irish team at the London 2012 Olympics, recorded an inside the distance win over Limerick’s Derek Duhig and is one victory away from his fifth non-consecutive title. (more…)

  • Bruno Escalante KO’s Lorenzo Trejo In First Round

    Friday night at the Fox Theatre in Redwood City, CA on a Don Chargin and Paco Presents boxing show, IBA Super Flyweight Champion, Bruno “The Aloha Kid” Escalante (12-1-1, 6 KOs), scored a brutal first round knockout against veteran Lorenzo Trejo (33-29-1, 20 KOs).

    Escalante used his speed and quickness while throwing punches off peculiar angles before the violent knockout happened. It was a left hook to the body followed by a right hook to the head that sent the Mexican down for the count. (more…)
