    Due to circumstances beyond the control of the Irish Amateur Boxing Association, Friday’s Elite international with Kazakhstan has been cancelled.

King’s Blues Club in New York to formally announce their world championship unification on Saturday, April 19, live on Showtime from the DC Armory in Washington, D.C.

    At 49-years-old, “The Alien” Hopkins (54-6-2, 32 KOs), of Philadelphia, is looking to become the oldest fighter in boxing history to unify world titles, while Shumenov (14-1, 9 KOs), of Shymkent, Kazakhstan, is aiming to become the fastest fighter to unify the light heavyweight division with only 15 professional fights under his belt.   • Team Ireland Prepares For Crack Kazakh Squad Clash

    Team Ireland is gearing itself up for the visit of the No. 1 ranked boxing nation in the world at the National Stadium in Dublin on Friday.

    Ireland and Kazakhstan are slated to go head-to-head on March 14 at the home of Irish boxing.

    The international is being held to mark the 75th anniversary of the official opening of the National Stadium, the first purpose built boxing stadium in the world, for the 1939 European Championships. (more…)

  • Martin Murray Signs With Golden Gloves Promotions

    Martin Murray is targeting a November showdown with hard-hitting middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin after signing a lucrative seven-figure, three-fight deal with Africa’s largest promoter, Golden Gloves.

    The 31-year-old from St Helens in the UK split with Ricky Hatton last month after a frustrating year that saw him fight just once after his narrow defeat to Sergio Martinez in Argentina last April.

    Murray (26-1-1) will fight in June, November and next February in Monte Carlo and also hopes to have a warm-up bout in Germany on April 5 on the undercard of Juergen Braehmer’s WBA light-heavyweight title defence against Enzo Maccarinelli. (more…)

  • Odlanier Solis Hits Istanbul For Tony Thompson Fight

    Heavyweight contender Odlanier Solis has arrived in Istanbul. The 2004 Olympic gold medalist will face US veteran Tony “Tiger” Thompson on March 22 in Tekirdag.

    It is the clash of two former Klitschko foes: In March 2011 Solis lost to then WBC champion Vitali Klitschko in Cologne, Germany due to a knee injury; Thompson had already two shots at Vitali’s younger brother Wladimir in 2008 and 2012 but lost both fights.

    “The winner of this bout will get another shot at the world title”, says promoter Ahmet Oner. “With Vitali in retirement and Wladimir facing stiffs like Alex Leapai it’s about time to bring back some action to the heavyweight scene. Both guys have a lot to win but even more to lose. So I am sure that it will be a hell of a fight.” (more…)
