  • Stephanie Han to Defend WBA Title Against Holly Holm on January 3 – World Boxing Association

Stephanie Han to Defend WBA Title Against Holly Holm on January 3 – World Boxing Association

San Juan, Puerto Rico, will host a high-stakes showdown for the World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight title as reigning champion Stephanie Han faces the legendary Holly Holm on January 3, 2026.

The Roberto Clemente Coliseum will set the stage for this fascinating clash, with Han looking to make the second defense of her crown, while Holm aims to become a world champion once again—twelve years after her last boxing appearance.

Han captured the WBA belt on February 12, stopping Hannah Terlep in El Paso, Texas. She made her first title defense in August, traveling to Orlando to face Colombia’s Paulina Ángel. Despite suffering a first-round knockdown, Han showed grit and composure, rallying back to secure a unanimous decision victory.

Holm, a multi-division world champion and one of boxing’s most decorated female fighters, began her pro career in 2007 and competed until 2013, when she transitioned to mixed martial arts. There, she etched her name in combat sports history—most notably by defeating Ronda Rousey in one of MMA’s most iconic upsets.

This year, Holm returned to the boxing ring, defeating the previously unbeaten Yolanda Vegas on June 28 in Anaheim, proving that her timing and technique remain sharp. Now, she’s stepping up to face a young, undefeated champion in Han—a test that could define the twilight of her storied career.

Han enters the bout with a record of 11–0 (3 KOs), while Holm brings her vast experience and a résumé that includes 34 wins, 2 losses, 3 draws, and 9 knockouts.

  • Stephanie Han sweats out tough win over Paulina Ángel – World Boxing Association

Stephanie Han sweats out tough win over Paulina Ángel – World Boxing Association

American lightweight champion Stephanie Han (11-0, 3 KOs) successfully defended her WBA world title on Saturday night, grinding out a unanimous decision over Colombia’s Paulina Ángel (7-2-2, 3 KOs) at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida. All three judges turned in identical tallies of 98-91.

Han had to dig herself out of an early hole after tasting the canvas in the opening stages. The defending champ came out aggressively, trying to overwhelm her opponent, but Ángel answered with a sharp right hand to the chin that flipped the script and put Han down. From that moment, it was the Colombian pressing forward, while Han relied on poise, discipline, and ring IQ to keep the fight under control and avoid extended exchanges.

Through the first five rounds, Han found her rhythm at mid-range, landing cleanly while Ángel struggled to cut the distance. A clash of heads in the fourth left Han with a cut, but instead of unraveling, she doubled down on her jab and began dictating the pace.

By the sixth, Han turned up the pressure, mixing straight shots upstairs with digging body hooks. Ángel showed grit and toughness, but she couldn’t turn the tide. Han closed strong, boxing with movement and volume, sweeping the championship rounds to put the result beyond doubt.

The victory marked Han’s first successful title defense and further cemented her as one of the key players at 135 pounds.

Stephanie Han Dominates and Claims WBA Lightweight Championship – World Boxing Association

In a night to remember for boxing, Stephanie Han was crowned the WBA lightweight world champion, delivering a stunning first-round knockout against Hannah Terlep in the main event of Ring Wars 15 at the El Paso County Coliseum.

From the opening bell, Han imposed her will with sharp precision and relentless aggression. Facing Terlep, the WBA’s No. 10-ranked contender in the division, Han wasted no time establishing her dominance. Just two minutes into the first round, she unleashed a barrage of powerful right hands that crashed into Terlep’s face, sending her crashing to the canvas and sealing the fight in spectacular fashion.

With this emphatic victory, Han improves to 10-0 (3 KOs) and secures her first world title. “I’m beyond happy,” Han said after the fight. “I’ve trained incredibly hard these past few years, and when I found out I’d be fighting for a world title, I pushed myself like never before.”

Meanwhile, Terlep suffers her second consecutive knockout loss, a tough setback for the lightweight contender.

Han follows in the footsteps of her older sister, Jennifer Han, who captured the IBF featherweight title in 2015. Nearly a decade later, the younger Han has now etched her own name in boxing history, bringing another world championship home.
