Lewis to Return?
Great Britain’s morning papers are awash with stories about Lennox Lewis hinting that he may be ready to end his retirement and step back into the fray by challenging current WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko. Just two days removed from watching Klitschko devour fellow Briton
Danny Williams over eight one-sided rounds, Lewis professed that watching the fight was, “stirring something inside me.” Lewis, who never lost any of his undisputed titles in a boxing ring, capped his career with a sixth round stoppage of Klitschko on some of the most gruesome cuts seen in recent times. However, Lewis and Klitschko gave boxing the most exciting heavyweight fight in many years, after which Lewis retired. Speaking of Klitschko’s potential opponents, Lewis stated, “Those two (Byrd and Rahman) may be able to give Klitschko a decent contest. But what he really needs is someone tall and good. I wonder who that could be?” Stay tuned to saddoboxing.com to see if Lewis changes his mind.

Vitali Speaks Out.
After returning from the hospital at around midnight, WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko met with the press to discuss his devastating eighth-round knockout victory over Danny Williams Saturday night on HBO Pay-Per-View at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, his future plans and more.
VITALI KLITSCHKO
“I went to the hospital as a precaution because both my hands were swollen, They are taped now but the doctor said I will be fine and could fight in a couple of months. Nothing is broken. This is no big deal. I cannot say exactly when I hurt them, or with what punch, but I first started to feel pain in the hands in the second round, and felt more and more pain in each round thereafter. I feel good. I did not take a lot of punches in the fight. Danny Williams did never hurt me. I tried to finish him in the first round, but Danny Williams showed a lot of heart and came back. I was very surprised at how many punches he took. I am happy with my performance, but fights, like life, are all about learning and gaining experience. I hope the fans enjoyed our fight tonight. I fight for the audience. They are the ones who pay to watch me fight and I hope they will want to watch me again. The best is yet to come. I am not prepared to say who I will fight next, or when the fight will be, or where. There are several possibilities, lots of big names. We will see. This victory was important not just for me, but for my country. This is the first time a Ukrainian sportsman is a boxing world champion. I hope I made the people there happy My brother, Wladimir, and I leave for Germany early in the morning (Sunday) and will spend one day there before heading to Ukraine.”

Hatton First to Stop Oliveira.
British light welterweight Ricky Hatton became the first man to stop veteran campaigner Ray Oliveira on Saturday night in London, England. Oliveira touched the canvas several times before going to ground one final time in the tenth round citing an ear injury as his reason for being unable to continue, giving Referee Mickey Vann no option but to end the contest. Oliveira holds a win over current WBA champion Vivian Harris and is well known for his massive punch output and work-rate. However, Oliveira was simply outworked by Hatton who looks forward to a possible bout with IBF light welterweight champion Kostya Tszyu.

Mandalay Bay Results.
Vitali Klitschko is still the WBC heavyweight champion after beating challenger Danny Williams to the canvas four times en route to an eighth round knockout victory. Williams was game and caught the champion with some good shots but Klitschko was able to absorb the punches a lot easier than Williams managed to take his shots. Williams was knocked down in the first and third rounds but managed to come back well before being rocked several times more and finally being sent to his fourth defeat via an impressive performance from the champion.
WBO light welterweight champion of the world Miguel Cotto sent former champion Randall Bailey to the canvas twice before the sixth round when Bailey was unable to see and therefore unable to continue to fight. With the stoppage, Cotto successfully defended his title for the first time.
Carlos Ramirez rebounded from losing his IBF super featherweight title to Erik Morales by defeating Juan Carlos Ramirez by a ten-round split decision.
Carlos Navarro stopped Agapito Sanchez in the eleventh round.

Freitas Returns Successfully.
Former super featherweight and lightweight champion Acelino Freitas staged his comeback tonight in his native Brazil with a decision win over unheralded David Saucedo. Freitas, whose impeccable record was spoiled by current lightweight champion Diego Corrales in a classic fight will return to the ring in the New Year with a title shot against the IBF’s champion Julio Diaz. Freitas received a lot of flak from the boxing press and fans alike for the way in which he walked away from Corrales in a fight in which he was knocked down three times. So it was a successful return but it is still a long road to walk for Freitas to be able to win over a skeptical world audience.
