Default Glen Tapia rushed to trauma center after fight

Reports: Glen Tapia Rushed To Trauma Center After In-Ring Bludgeoning

I woke up this morning and the first thing I did was search Tapia's name, hoping that we wouldn't have another Abdusalamov situation, and found this.

Hopefully Tapia is fine, but his corner should be ashamed of themselves. Glen is a young kid who CLEARLY got overwhelmed and punched himself out early. He was completely gassed, bloody and defeated, and his corner kept throwing him out there to take more unnecessary punishment.

Even when the doctor came to examine a clearly defeated, concussed Tapia, his asshole trainer kept yelling "tell him you're fine and you wanna continue, Glen". I think it was pretty obvious to anyone who knows anything about boxing that Glen was done after at least round 3, and took at least 3 rounds of unneeded head trauma.

I'd be hard pressed to think of a more uncaring, sadistic corner. I had no issue with Abdusalamov's corner, because Abdusalamov was always in the fight, always throwing punches and moving forward. Nothing about his body language suggested he was a defeated man who needed to be protected. Glen's body language screamed "STOP THE FIGHT".

These kinds of uncaring fucks are going to get people killed in the ring, and eventually are going to start discussions for having boxing banned.

    SHAME!

EDIT: Apparently he was released without issue, but I stick by what I said. He took way too much punishment and who knows what kind of effects that will have on him down the road.

Absolutely 100% correct. Nothing much more to add, BF.

I don't think the fight should of been stopped after the 3rd. But it should of been after the 5th.

Yea he was in bad shape for the last couple of rounds, and I fully agree about his corner, that was pathetic towards the end. I think the trouble is Kirkland is a guy you always have a prayer against, and that was a total must win fight for both. Tapia was able to hurt him with a hook or two that had nothing on them, while out on his feet! Kirklands assault is more or less wading in and throwing a lot of arm punches, I didn't think he looked good at all. Decent fight for first few rounds, but Kirkland will get KO'ed again soon if he looks to pick up a belt.

I agree, plus I think Kirkland is going to have a short career if he does not develop a defense. Like Tapia, he takes too many punches, right now his defense is his offense.

Great thread. I think you summed the situation up thoroughly.

And crews like that deserve such exposure to protect other fighters from these bastards and perhaps bring the spotlight on them by officials.

I'm really glad he has checked out and looks alright. Kid was in a blender after the 1st but I do think the ref, Dr. as well as corner shoulder this one. Smoger tells him "you cannot take severe head shots or I'll stop it" then he proceeds to take 3 minutes and is green lighted for another round after. The corner was wreckless and choked but the whole scenario went from glorious pumped up dramatic to crash course reality denied within 5,8 minutes of the fight. The officials let them lobby another chance and blinked on facts. Shame on all of em. Anytime the theme and fat mouth Lampley is proclaiming you "THE NEXT ARTURO GATTI" ffs. They all lost the plot in that one.

I thought his corner was trying to get him killed. But also the doctor and Smoger should have stopped it before the final round. If you need a doctor in the ring in consectutive rounds it's pretty fucking obvious the guy isn't improving.

Smoger was a disgrace. I said it in the actual fight thread. Apart from the late stoppage when he stopped the fight he just pawed at them and meant Tapia took one huge unneccesary shot after Smoger had stopped the fight. U need to dive between the fighters to stop it.

Refs get stick for stopping fights too soon but Smoger should really be pulled up on this one. Smoger gives fighters every chance to show they can continue, he also gives them every chance to wind up brain dead.

It's not even in the same ball park (that's an American saying, I know you hate that stuff)

Tapia took a savage beating, so bad the ref was calling the doctor to check him between rounds.

What happened with Groves cant be compared to Tapia , Groves only took a few shots.
Kirkland broke the Compubox stats record which were all obviously landing on Tapias head and torso

It's not so much an issue of the amout of punishment recieved, as it is someone being phsyically and mentally spent, and sent out to take more punishment.

Like I said before, I have absolutely no problem with Abdusalamov's corner not stopping the fight, even though he was taking a lot of flush bombs, because Abdusalamov was ALWAYS in the fight. He was pressing forward and throwing punches, and actively trying to win the fight.

From the 3rd round on (or maybe even earlier, I forget) it was evident that Tapia punched himself out and was gassed badly, so much so that he could no longer keep Kirkland at bay, and he was taking a plastering. If he still had the energy to fight on, I'd have no problem with his corner.

But his corner knew he was fucked and kept saying "I need you to get a second wind." Kirkland isn't going to give you a chance to get a second wind: he's going to club you to death.

When a man no longer has the will or the physical capabilities to fight on, the fight should be stopped.

Difference with Groves being of course that Groves was always in the fight. Even though he was hurt badly, he had the energy and will to fight on and win, so he should have been given a chance.
