Who are your current top 20 Mexican fighters?
These articles got me thinking about my list.
5 best Mexican boxers - Boxing - Yahoo! Sports
The Current Top 20 Mexican/Mexican-American Fighters - May 2011
I like the second article better because it's much more extensive. For top 5 I'd go with..
1. Marquez
2. Rios
3. Segura
4. Mares
5. Ortiz
Re: Who are your current top 20 Mexican fighters?
A good question made even more interesting after a string of big wins this year. I would disagree with the yahoo article that Morales or Alvarez belong on the list because of where they are in their careers. I would put Robert Guererro number two overall. I think he can beat Rios but it'd be a great fight.
And hey, to anyone watching Friday Night Fights, we might need to add Juan Carlos Martinez to that list. Who is this guy!?

Looks like the 1 of the lists are Mexican & Mexican-American...
With that being said;
JMM
Segura
Mares
Ortiz
Guerrero

Problem with Guerrero is that he hasn't defeated anyone of note to warrant that high of a ranking. Salido thoroughly schooled him although the 'W' was later changed to a No Contest because of Salido's juicing. If he beats Rios, he'll definitely make a move in the right direction. Don't know that he can do that though. Guerrero lacks power IMO.
Juan Carlos Martinez is just a journeyman. One win over a borderline top 10 featherweight doesn't warrant being put on the list. Now if he follows that up with another good victory, he'll definitely raise some eye brows.

Actually Salido took a 2nd test and the result was negative.
So that's 1 postive and 1 negative test.
Why that wasn't further investigated or tested is beyond me.

Probably because he could've taken something between the first and second test to help mask it for good.
Re: Who are your current top 20 Mexican fighters?
I was being tongue in cheek about Juan Carlos Martinez. Obviously just a good journeyman but I was impressed by what I saw as I was writing.
Anyway here's my list. It includes Mex/Americans as per the rest of the posts.
1 JMM
2 Segura
3 Guererro, who's he beat? really made that domination of Katsidis look like no big deal right?
4 Ortiz
5 Rios
6 Mares
7 Montiel, will have more success if he moves down from bantamweight
8 De Leon
9 Salido, beat the guy that beat De Leon, but I still think De Leon's better
10 Vasquez
11 Angulo
12 Arreola, c'mon people he's still the best American heavyweight.
13 Alvarez, I'd still like to see more but having a junior middle weight title isn't nothing.
14 Soto, could be higher but hasn't stayed active enough
15 Mikey Garcia
16 Arce, big gainer this week obviously
17 Jorge Solis
18 Jhonny Gonzalez, frustratingly soft but great fun to watch
19 Librado Andrade, thought he won on Friday but what do I know
20 Urbano Antillon
