Can a boxer chew a piece of gum in between rounds?
Is water the only thing a boxer can take? How about a piece of gum? I have seen boxers take a piecce of gum at the start of ROund 1, guess they need to spit it out before the bell rings? What if a boxer ate a piece of gum between rounds and spat it out before the bell rang? Is that a DQ? @greynotsoold

I think what you're trying to ask is when my fight with GGG comes off........can I have spaghetti and meatballs between rounds.
No, you cant, you may have water or sports drink (Gatorade for e.g.)
Not even a light sandwich.

I always wondered if a boxer could chew gum, it's been one of the great mysteries to me about this sport, along with the question of has any boxer ever earned a shaver??

I was definitely working my way towards that.....if they give an inch, I could ask for a yard, mate. It starts with gum, then I wiggle my way into bribing the Commission for a meal. Half portion though :(

Which of the 2, though, would you give the nod to? Gum or shaver?
Re: Can a boxer chew a piece of gum in between rounds?
@brocktonblockbust you know brother on a serious note gum used to be thought as a jaw muscle strengthener and is still used an awful lot of fighters for that belief. I have never seen a study on the effects but I just had a flashback of an extremely sore jaw from stuffing ten double bubbles in my mouth as a kid on a weekly basis. I'm still addicted to that shit which are now 5 cents, half the size and no freakin comic.
Floyd goes through an awful pile of gum in training and everyday life. There is a jaw muscle so there must be some basis in fact that it can be strengthened from use? A guy should hire a couple of hookers and put them into boxing to test the theory. I've never seen gum chewing in the corner or in a fight. You got one minute so the second isn't passing the fighter a stick of Wrigleys.
Plus I'm not sure how you would chew it wearing a mouth guard and there would also be a little worry about choking to death in the attempt. Also, what would happen when you got hit with a shot mid chew. Be like Ali getting caught by Norton mid sentence;D

In over 150 years of prizefighting, somebody has HAD TO HAVE earned a shaver at some point. To think otherwise would be naive IMO
