I was rooting for him fully, but he was too defensive. He can have no complaints (he'll complain).
He could have gotten off first, thrown two or three punches once Canelo got set, and then turned him. But he was too defensive, and the most meaningful punches of the fight were Canelo body shots.
How did you score the first 3 rounds?
I gave the first three to Lara, but again I was rooting for him, like "stylists" and kind of have an irrational dislike for Canelo. He clearly came nowhere near to dominating those rounds ;D He barely landed anything meaningful whatsoever.
No, it wasn't domination, just the calculated picking off of a come forward fighter. Still that's 3 that we both agree on from the off. I'm sure there will be other rounds we agree on too, though I will need to watch them properly again due to stream chop. If you scored Lara the first 3 and then went to sleep, then for sure 117-111 Alvarez might make more sense. Most would agree it was close and a case can be made either way.
I had Lara edging it. But I don't feel good about that.
Granted, I've only watched it once, but the only round I feel good about scoring for Lara was the first.
He just didn't do enough. The best shots of the fight were Canelo's body shots. Easily the best shots.
Again, I feel like I could make a strong case for either guy winning that fight 117-111. The rounds were all close. There were no dominant rounds and I feel like this: "just the calculated picking off of a come forward fighter" is a bit much.
Re: Official Thread: Canelo Alvarez-Erislandy Lara
I had Canelo winning 116-112.
Lara ran too much, he fought like he was afraid. There's a difference between running and good ring generalship.
Re: Official Thread: Canelo Alvarez-Erislandy Lara
I had Lara winning 5 rounds and three of them were the first three. He can blame himself not the judges he really could have won this fight had he brought his testicles to the ring . He did did not stick and run . Lara ran, ran, ran stuck and ran, and ran even more from the 4th round on. The guy left his balls on the podium the night he disrepected Canelo in order to get the fight. Then he feels he can run for 12 rounds and think human juges are not going to forget. Had he not gotton the fight this macho way maybe just maybe the body shots go unnoticed. However these were some of the more clear and visible body shots i have ever seen because they were placed on a runaway marathon chicken carnival target. The fight seemed to just run by so quick thanks to Lara. People were expecting an exciting fight not a game of tag. This does not even qualify as tag because you have to touch someone first in tag not run first like Lara did.
Canelo could have challenged Laras manhood for the lack of bravado he displayed. Instead he just emphasized on how Lara just ran and jabbed all night. As for the rematch "Bingo" learn to fight when you challenage a man's manlihood.
No way I give Lara a rematch if I am Canelo. If I am Canelo I am thinking : you dispected me and had a chance to beat me and decided to run. ( must not of wanted the fight all that bad) .
I'll take Mexican boxing over Pussy Cuban Boxing anyday. I am laughing how Lara referenced Cuban boxing to Military like. If that is the case their miltary is adept at taunting and running away from opponents like little grade school boys.
Re: Official Thread: Canelo Alvarez-Erislandy Lara
I am now re-watching Toney-Jirov to see how to box a come forward body puncher.
No one will ever re-watch Canelo-Lara.
Re: Official Thread: Canelo Alvarez-Erislandy Lara
I will agree with you, Ouma that Lara should have done more. I think he did enough, but he clearly has the tools to do that little bit extra and should have. He out landed Alvarez, but you cannot play games in places like Las Mexico. Good call on Toney-Jirov. Now that is a fight.

Seems to me everyone believes this was more of Lara losing this fight on his own then winning it ( Include me) The thing is in order to convincingly beat Canelo he opens himself to being beaten. Well we know now he has the skill but not the "Juevos" !!!
Re: Official Thread: Canelo Alvarez-Erislandy Lara
my prediction was; lara would win on points and outbox canelo easily, making him look foolish at times, BUT...canelo would get the nod because of his star power.
i didnt see the fight, how far off was I? im hearing different shit. maybe from someone who dont suck canelos balls??

You were pretty damn close. The same slags who championed Algeri for "outboxing" Provodnikov despite getting dropped twice are now jeering Lara for "running".
Everyone agrees Lara swept the first 3 n took the last 2 as well. Yet some think Canelo did enough to win.
It's hip to be square.
Chris Algeri dominated the fight by setting the pace, demonstrating superior ring generalship(in a very small ring), not being hit AND hitting Provodnikov. Algeri connected with 288 punches(of 993 thrown) and was effective in almost every round of the fight. Lara connected with a measly 107 punches(of 386 thrown) and spent several rounds literally running away from Canelo. It's a poor comparison unless you're trying to show how undeserving of the win Lara was.

Nah. If you gave me 100 bucks I could write up a detailed, persuasive account of why each guy should have won that fight 117-111.
There were almost zero dominant rounds. Alvarez won (and it wasn't by any means a robbery) without landing a single meaningful head shot.
I had it undeniably 3-0 Lara after 3. Then I scored the fourth for Canelo. Thereafter I was obstructed by technical issues, but judged the rounds as fairly as the means could merit. I definitely saw Canelo come on in the middle rounds, but Lara came back strongly. Not in a million years could I ever see a case for 117-111 unless it was a White House spokesperson or the North Korean national press. I think most people can make at least a case for a close fight, but I saw 6 rounds that were relatively easy to score in Lara's favour. Now if he didn't win any other rounds, then fine, a draw, or if you are against me, a close Canelo win, but no sane person would ever produce 117-111. That is Federal Reserve behavior. Martinez should go into banking where he can work for not just one dildo crazed cokehead, but a whole plethora of them.

You have a love affair for that fight. How many times have you jacked off to Toney-Jirov? lol Your comments made me first watch that fight like 5 years ago and you've referenced it like 10 times since. It's ok.
I'm only offended because I'm about to rewatch Canelo-Lara.
Re: Official Thread: Canelo Alvarez-Erislandy Lara
Biggest cert of the week was this fight will have a disputed outcome. A styles fight all about what you like. Before the fight they should have just agreed to do what they did in the old days, if you're both still standing after 12 we'll call it a draw.
