I'll be your huckleberry Miles;)
You realize Margarito has been a pro since 15 years old right? he has 2 losses when he was still a teenager fighting full grown men, the 2nd Santos fight was at 154 and was stopped because of a cut on his eyebrow so it was far from a beatdown and a foregone conclusion he would have lost.. And he lost to Williams because he started to late, fair play to Williams since he is one of my favorite fighters but if that was a 15 round fight Tony would have won since he cleary was fresh as a daisy at the end of the 12th round and had the momentum...
Who has seen Tony ever in trouble or seriously wobbled in a fight... Tony has fought more top ten Ring ranked Welters over the past few years.. He is one of the toughest hard grizzled bastards in the sport for years and has a heart like Holyfield just a straightforward punching machine with a sadistic joy of dishing and receiving pain..., Margarito has the edge in experience and battling through adversity, remember everyone wrote him off to Journey man after the Williams fight and he picked himself up off the ground to claw right back in the thick of it a year later and get his shot at greatness, he isin't gonna let Cotto steal his glory, this win will put Tony in a position to be in the Hall Of Fame..... Margarito will stop him late;)
Look man, I respect that you are supporting your fighter and you have immense faith in his ability.
But could you please stop insisting that "if Tony doesn't winhe will die in that ring." Thats some pretty scary stuff man and God forbid something goes wrong for either fighter that would look pretty selfish from a fans perspective.
I like both fighters a lot, they both are excellent amabssadors for the sport, let's hope they have a nice clean competitive fight and they both come out ok, regardless of the result.
I think this one will be a fight of the year contender i see Cotto boxing Tony the first few rounds then Toney will start to come in to the fight and make it a war .Iam still sitting on the fence as for picking a winner i thinking 60/40 for Cotto at the moment lol.
Margarito UD
Heres your breakdown...courtesy of HBO Boxing.
...looking at Margarito's record more closely, and it became apparent why he had two losses. "They came before he was 19," Diaz said. "He was a child fighting men."
In his sixth fight at age 16, Margarito lost to Victor Lozoya, who was three years older. When Margarito was 18, his second loss was handed to him by an unbeaten 28-year-old named Larry Dixon. Jones, who was also 28, gave Margarito his third loss...
Goes on to say about the Santos fight being stopped by cuts. So I only see a legitimate loss to Williams for wahtever the reason.
Not sure why you'd use the words boxing and running interchangeably
Derrick Gainer is a runner, Cotto boxed nicely against Mosley, you don't win rounds by just running.
Not sure why I take the bait on that all the time
Good post, man. I don't see where you see so many "Margo haters". Matter of fact, the level of admiration for Tony, if anything, has risen after his destruction of Kermit Cintron. Me? I'm a Cotto fan all the way. I'm proud of the way he represents our little island. And I'm going to be rooting for him as loud as I can. But I have the utmost respect for Margarito as a great fighter and a very worthy and dangerous opponent.
You beat me to this TitoFan. Rarely will you see 2 fighters going into a match with more equal respect from fans then these two warriors. I think it is part of the magic and the draw.
I too am rooting for Cotto, but with much respect for Margo. They are both great ambassadors for the sport and also a part of it's hope for the future. The world needs its heros, and it needs villains...but right now I feel the boxing world needs something to believe in for it's future, and that would be a hero. That hero shall emerge Saturday night, and hopefully delivered through a battle equal to the challenge and the hype, making it deserving of such a thing.
See yas there Saturday. Can't wait! ;)
Excellent posts Youngblood and Tito.
