When Roy went to Heavy he was p4p imo.
When Ali was in his prime he was the P4P fighter of the sport at that time

. . .and if Agelo Dundee didnt cheat then maybe he would have beaten Ali.
Re: True heavyweights as p4p number 1 fighters of their time?
Yes if dundee did not cheat ali would definatly lost he was only semi contious in the corner if he had to come back out straight away cooper would only have had to push him over not even puch him.
Just goes to show as i say ali was very vunerable all through his career if you take out the we love ali and he is the best thing and just judge him as a fighter you can clerarly see he had some major faults in the ring

Muhammad Ali had smelling salts which wasn't allowed in the UK at that time i believe. So technically he should of been DQ.

I could guess the loses you are refering to but all fighters have close fights that end controversy.
I cant think of any top fighter that has not had what is known as a home town/house fighter/popular champ decision.
Just a point I want to make if SSR was so great why did he he duck Charles Buerly?
Well i don't know all the details regarding SRR ducking Charles Burley, just rumors really no solid facts. But as for Muhammad Ali's controversial wins, put it this way if he would of lost 2 out of 3 against Ken Norton. Got a draw against Doug Jones and lost against Jimmy Young, Earnie Shavers.
Would people still have him so high in the P4P rankings ? because IMO he for certain lost to Young, Shavers, 2 out of 3 with Norton, and got a lucky draw against Doug Jones.

for his era...
Im talking of all time. Ali doesnt come before Duran, Rob, Moore, Armstrong, Pepp
and rou was p4p in the sport when he ventured to heavy to.. which is why i dont understand his questrion.
It looks to me like he is trying to ask what Heavyweight in there prime was p4p of all time.. and he excluded adding Ali because he thought Ali was p4p the best ever.
My response is no Ali was not p4p the bst fighter there are about 6 men who come before him atleast on my list.. and no Heavyweight PERIOD during their prime was ever p4p the best in history.
If the question was who was p4p in the Sport and not in history as heavyweight during their primes, then I stand by roy jones, he was p4p the best in the sport at the time.
Someone also answered his question as if he was asking hwo was the best HEAVYWEIGHT of all time..
There's so many holes in his question it's amazing.. so i'll just tick to my answer.
When roy jones was a heavyweight he was also p4p the best in the sport. Not of all time, which answers the question he was asking imo.

To me I thought he was asking what HW was the P4P best in the sport during their prime not of all time.....:-\

Henry may have gotten one in on him but are you actually going to sit there and try to act as though Henry was a better fighter then Ali during that era?
Re: True heavyweights as p4p number 1 fighters of their time?
Ali, Louis, Tunney, arguably Dempsey, Marciano could have been.
I don't see how using the Henry Cooper fight which was before Ali's prime as evidence that he was p4p #1, he man handled Liston, Patterson, Archie Moore, and he was clearly the best fighter in his prime, and even after his prime in the sport(in the second half of the 70's it was probably Duran that was the best fighter)
