Margarito wasn't top ten P4P when he fought Williams.
NO WAY Williams is P4P top ten now.
Maybe in terms of "Ducked" but not in achievement thus far in his career.

Why does it matter if Margarito was regarded as top 10 at the time? He was an established fighter who proved his worth by knocking out Cotto. That elevates Williams victory. It isn't like Margarito was some green prospect when they fought.
Re: < Paul Williams TOP 10 P4P? You've gotta be fooken kidding...
I'd say that the Margarito win trumps any of Chad's wins, but Chad has a few big wins and Williams really only has that one, plus the loss to Quintana. Then I guess it depends on who you think is the better fighter, if you're just comparing the two.

He never knocked out Cotto before fighting Williams ;)

So? He was the same quality of fighter at the time, unless you think at 30 years of age he all of sudden had a big improvement over the year that past between the Williams and Cotto fights.

Let me ask you this.
PW beat Antonio Margarito. He never entered P4P top 10 status.
Antonio Margarito all of a sudden beats Miguel Cotto.
Now PW enters the top 10 ?
It doesn't make sense because PW is entering on behalf of Margarito's win over Cotto.
Not because Paul Williams has followed up on that win, hell no. Being took to school by Carlos Quintana is hardly following up.
It's just stupid IMO.

How is it stupid to give Williams credit for beating a prime Margarito? You have a point about the Quintana loss, but he avenged that loss by demolishing Carlos in the rematch, so I'd say it's fair to put him in the top 10.

Doesn't matter about the rematch. Quintana is only a contender anyway.
My point is beating Antonio Margarito last year and not following it up shouldn't make you P4P worthy IMO (And everyone else almost agrees on this thread).
Antonio Margarito has never been P4P worthy only untill after he beat Cotto recently.
Re: < Paul Williams TOP 10 P4P? You've gotta be fooken kidding...
Another example.
Vic Darchinyan hasn't been put in the P4P top ten by many.
Yet he knocked out and dominated a P4P prime top 5 Christian Mijares and has good wins before that fight. Who did PW beat before Margarito? Vic is also a 2 weight world champion.
So why should Paul be put above him when Margarito was lower than Mijares in the P4P rankings ?

I hope this is a typo on the site...
Do ANY of these names mean ANYTHING to whomever votes on the rankings?
Hozumi Hasegawa
David Haye
Vic Darchinyan
BCD
Nonito Donaire
Well he does hold a win not that long ago over the P4P#6 Margarito.

Fair maybe, but there are other more deserving candidates.

But other then Quintana who has he really beaten?....Of worth to be in the P4P....Many of the other names mentioned have defeated top ranked fighters again and again

Antonio Margarito was probably just about top 20 P4P when Paul Williams beat him if that. What Antonio Margarito has done recently should not give Paul Williams a free pass in the top 10 P4P.
Like Leftylee just said Vic Darchinyan just dominated a top 6 P4P fighter, so why isn't he in the top 10 ? or why isn't Chad Dawson in the top 10 ? he has solid wins over Antonio Tarver, Glen Johnson, Eric Harding, Tomasz Adamek.
I'd like to know what Paul Williams has done to deserve to be rated above. Chad Dawson or Vic Darchinyan.
Re: < Paul Williams TOP 10 P4P? You've gotta be fooken kidding...
i think hes good
future p4p
but there are more ppl with better resume then he has and deserve it more and they aint even close the p4p list, he might even stay up there if he wins aganist phillps which wuold make him a two division champ.lol

I must disagree. Paul beat Margarito. Convincingly is very debatable and since that victory he lost to Quintana. The second time around, he beat Quintana convincingly, but Quintana is nowhere near a p4p fighter. He then moved up to middleweight and beat a glorified club fighter.
Vic just beat Mijares who was #7 on the p4p list (I think). By beating Mijares, he unified the IBF, WBO, and WBA belts in the 115 pound class. Vic deserves it more than Paul.
BCD has beat Antonio Tarver, Glen Johnson, and Tomaz Adamek (who is fighting for the CRUISER weight championship in December. BCD deserves it more than Paul.
Now, I don't understand why Cotto is still in the Ring list. Nothing against Cotto, I am a big fan, but Hatton's loss to PBF knocked him off the list and Pavlik's loss to Hopkins knocked him off the list - why didn't Cotto's loss to Margarito knock him off the list?
Because those guys (Hatton, Pavlik) got totally thrashed in one-sided affairs.. whereas Cotto was always in the fight with Margarito (he was clearly the more skillful fighter).
If Cotto rematched Margarito there's a chance he could win with slight alterations. NO-one could ever see Pavlik beating Hopkins and Ricky beating Floyd after their fights.
Cotto looks a much more talented fighter than either of those two as well. I think he deserves to be top 10 P4P.
First, I don't think you keep a person in the top ten p4p because of how well they looked losing a fight unless you last 12 rounds and fight competitively and end up losing a very close decision to a top ten p4p fighter. I don't really know what is redeemable about getting knocked the f*ck out, losing by submission, or losing every single round.
Second, Cotto didn't look good losing. He submitted to Margarito; Margarito looked as if he hadn't even been in a fight afterward ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3UMnJqHba8 ). That's an argument for another day, however.
Third, PBF and Bhop were each in the top ten p4p when they fought; Margarito wasn't in the top ten when he fought Cotto. PBF was ranked #1 p4p when he beat Ricky. Bhop was ranked #5 when he beat Pavlik. Ricky and Pavlik lost to top ten p4p fighters and Cotto lost to an unranked fighter.
The point is there are fighters more deserving of top ten p4p status than Cotto or Pwill. As I mentioned earlier, two that come to mind are Vic and BCD.
