Re: Taylor surprised the life out of me .
If Jermain Taylor played his cards right HE could have been the guy to beat Calzaghe...I think JT's jab and the fact he fights to the level of his opponent would have made him more difficult than anyone else Calzaghe fought/could have fought.
It is a damn shame...JT is a good fighter but he needs to train or plan his fights better

Taylor has it in him to outbox most guys at SMW IMO, except for Kessler who I think is better than everyone else. He always falters down the stretch though. But it's credit to Froch that he really went for it in a way that someone like Hopkins never would. Really left no room for doubts about who won the fight.
It was my second proper look at Froch and he certainly knows how to make a fight watchable! I see a lot of things wrong with him, but he keeps finding a way to win. He can't always rely on heart and chin, so he should keep finding ways to improve.
He keeps calling out Calzaghe but a decent Calzaghe would just outpoint him to death. No way ready for that.
Its okay saying that but lets remember the 2 notable names he has beat. Jean Pascal and Jermain Taylor. Pascal is a heartless fringe contender, Taylor doesn't even look like he's interested in there at times and has bad stamina issues.
Froch starts fighting top level fighters and he'll get beaten, comfortably.
Part of what makes a boxer great is that innate fighting instinct. That instinct was reflected in Froch's toughness and determination. Going into the fight, Taylor was the better athlete than Froch and the better boxer, but his performance in the fight showed he lacked Froch's fighting spirit. Froch's strength is his heart.
To call Pascal a heartless fringe contender is unfair. Pascal is now taking on Diaconu at 175. There is nothing heartless about that. Having wins over Pascal and Taylor is impressive because both are relatively quick and Froch is relatively slow. Those two fights compare favorably to the fights that the rest of the elite in the division have taken.
Froch has the heart of a Lion. No doubt.
Pascal is heartless. Why you think the fight with Miranda never took off ? He seen him KO Banks ringside and didn't want any part.

Good post.
To call Froch "garbage" is a disgraceful insult to boxing. What he lacks in talent he makes up for in toughness and bottle. Something you can't learn or practise.
How is it ? Look at that defence of his. He faces somebody that can last a full 12 rounds and is half decent, he will get punished.

His crap defence hasn't stopped him winning.
Taylor is "half decent", no?
He lasted 12 rounds with Hopkins (twice), Pavlik, Winky, Spinks, Ouma, Lacy, Joppy and beat everyone else in under 12 rounds.
If Froch is garbage, yet was able to KO Taylor fair-and-square in his backyard, what does that make Taylor and all the fighters he has beaten?

How did he KO him fair and square ? He got took to school for 11 rounds and was on the brink of defeat before Taylor gassed in the last round. Taylor lost the fight. And yeah Taylor has had stamina issues for a while. Ask anybody on this site. On paper he may have lasted 12 rounds with those guys but you watch the fights and he has looked pretty bad in them bar Hopkins. The Ouma fight was a classic example. Taylor's heart just doesn't belong in the sport.

It was a 12x3 WBC championship fight. Not an 11x3. If you get knocked out at any point during the 12 rounds you have lost fair and square. Simple as.
The entire history of boxing would look TOTALLY different without these rules set in place.
Taylor's stamina "issues" are no different to Froch's bad defence. It's all part of boxing. All top fighters have different strong points. It doesn't make them GARBAGE!!!
Re: Taylor surprised the life out of me .
I keep hearing all this about Taylor's stamina issues ! what issues he fought his heart out at a good pace with a fighter who made him work and was very very strong !
I didnt see Taylor fall apart in the last round and saw him get gurt by some thudding punches by a fighter that came on likea train , it does happen , what you say about Taylor you take away from Froch !
I give massive respect to Taylor he fought a hell of a fight and against most of the other top 10 supermiddles he'd have won , Froch walked through fire to win
Stop with all this Taylor fell apart nonsense
Re: Taylor surprised the life out of me .
....taylor would be great if he went back to fighting 6 rounders. Sergio mora should have took his chances and tried to quirk taylor to death.

i'm not calling Froch garbage but he clearly is a flawed fighter, and yes Taylor's stamina did play a part into the way the fight played out, he was dominating Froch until he started to tire, he was hurt just the same against Pavlik for the same reason, and in the first Hopkins fight (what should have been Taylor's first loss), B-Hop nearly had him out of there in the last rounds, so it's a bit of a pattern

HOW MANY MORE TIMES FOR FUUCKS SAKES!!
He has got away with being poor by not meeting any top supermiddles yet!
Taylor is a faded middle, he tried his luck at a heavier weight, he weighed in 2lbs under the limit, hes not a supermiddle.
Little fighters like Spinks did better with Taylor;D
All Froch had over Taylor here is a strength advantage, I said it before the fight that Taylor is not strong enough at this weight, he might last in to the 12th and drop, hurt and outpoint Froch but put him in with a decent supermiddle and see what happens;)
Re: Taylor surprised the life out of me .
For some ungodly reason I have watched most of Taylor's fights. I am not a fan of his style or anything, but I do think he is a decent man.
When Taylor tries to open up and punch big he loses. He is a strict reflex type boxer. JT tried to decapitate Ouma and tired out really early in that fight. If any opponent watched that tape, they'd know 2 things; Weather what he brings early and find an answer for his jab. JT gets really caught up trying to be a crowd pleaser and loses focus.
And JT complained all the time about making weight. He was a HUGE MW! I think he would have moved up around the same time regardless of his loses to Pavlik.
Having said all of this.. I look forward to JTs next fight. Hell, he brings it. What more can you ask for? He's athletic as they come, but chooses to give up a lot of his physical advantages.
Re: Taylor surprised the life out of me .
Any fighter that beat Bernard Hopkins...TWICE...deserves great credit. He has all the physical tools to be a tremendous fighter...but i just feel like he lost his way after the Hopkins fights. He has great jab...but he abandoned it for a while. One can question his stamina as well....but that was never an issue when he fought Hopkins. I think after those fights he changed his style to his detriment. He tried to bang more instead of using his great skills to box more. I also give him props from coming back from that first Pavlik knockout and fighting so well (even though he lost) in the rematch. This last loss will sting...simply because he let it get away. But he has the tools...just needs to sharpen his mind.

Taylor got shit stamina. He threw away that fight because he's stupid. I'm not trying to take anything from Froch.

He went the distance in hard fights against Winky Wright ,Hopkins and Pavlik but got bombed out late by an average Britsh fighter I suppose.

He faded and lost. 14 Seconds and Froch loses the title. That's where it stands. As it was the ref stepped in.
