Roach HAS to make stipulations like that or people would be able to exploit the fact that Manny is just plain fighting bigger men and he wants to make the advantage of normal weight to blow up weight negligable. If you're fighting 10 to 14 lbs out of your prefered weight class then you need to make sure the guys that wear this weight normally aren't going to take advantage of fighting a much smaller man.
...and yes, the Cotto stiputation was well documented.
How was Floyd bigger than Gatti or Hatton? And if Floyd fought a used up DLH then what did Pac fight? A corpse DLH?
I was wondering about the Gatti thing myself. Wasn't that like Floyd's 3rd fight or something at 140? And I wouldn't exactly call Hatton a 'natural' 140lber considering how chubby he gets. You ask me, Oscar was a game opponent, fighting in his weight class, with his ring and his gloves. The guy just got beat.
Yeah, I retracted my Gatti statement... I got a little overzelous making my point. That was NOT Oscar that he fought that night... That was a shell. Game? Of course he was game. He was one of the best fighters of our generation but that doesn't mean that he was in his prime. Oscar was well out of his prime. That was my point.

I understood what you meant, but the way your defend Mayweather on this boards you seem to think he is whiter than white when it comes to makeing fights, also if you check Mayweather also wants 10oz gloves aswell as the fight at 154.
I think the catchweight fight you are correct, but it's only fair this fight is at 147.
I agree the fight should be at 147. Like all welterweight title fights should be. But did Floyd really demand the fight to be at 154? Or is this just another Floyd rumor? Floyd can't even make a full 154. This would have to be a tactic to combat any catchweight so the fight is settled at 147. And I only defended Mayweather on the weight issue. Boston cracked on Floyd about the weight demands, who is relatively easy on the weight issue, while ignoring the fact that Roach is the king of weight demands.
It's easy to be "easy on the weight issue" when you're fighting smaller guys ;D

Yes, but you said it wouldn't surprise you about Floyd wanting the weight here or there. Something has to give you a reason to not be surprised. And if Pac is demanding bigger guys to come down isn't that an advantage for him like it would be if they demanded Pac to come up? How was Floyd bigger than Gatti or Hatton? And if Floyd fought a used up DLH then what did Pac fight? A corpse DLH?
Dude, how did Ricky Hatton look in his first fight at welterweight? What's the only other time he strayed north of 140? ...and yes Manny fought a corpse ODLH, Roach told him to jusmp on him seeing the IV marks in his arms... They were rehydrating him in the dressing room.
I just told you why I'm not surprised. He wants to be the bigger guy, like he has been for the past few years. What more do you need? Remember way back... long ago when Floyd fought Marquez? Yeah... No weight controvercy there. You're right.
Every fighter wants to be the bigger guy. And Floyd only fought a smaller Marquez. Gatti and Hatton were actually heavier than Floyd. Hatton didn't look bad at welterweight because of his weight. Hatton looked bad at welterweight because he was overrated and the competition is a lot better than at 140. Hatton gets up to 170 in between fights so he is not smaller than Floyd in no way. He's just lesser talent.

I told you I'd give you Gatti. That was a mistake on my part. Hatton doesn't blow up to 170 in between fights cuz it's natural weight... It's because of his shitty lifestyle. Hatton is absolutly a natural 140lber. Floyd is a professional who keeps his weight down at all times and should be commended for that but because a fighter blows up doesn't mean it's natural walking around weight... It's just a fighter who lets himself go. If my ass bloated up to 300 lbs cuz I ate bacon and lard it wouldn't mean it was my natural weight, now, would it? Marquez belonged no where near 142lbs and Floyd made it a point to come in heavy... 146. It's well documented how hard Floyd works so I guy like that NEVER comes in overweight. He's a dick. Sorry.

You can't just disregard a person's diet. What they eat is part of what makes them their size. And Hatton is no longer a natural 140lber. Hatton was fighting at 140 when Mayweather went up from 125 in the amateurs to 130 in the pros. So naturally it would seem Mayweather is the smaller guy. But its okay to agree to disagree buddy. http://www.saddoboxing.com/boxingfor...ons/icon14.gif I really don't like Floyd either but I like to tell it like it is or at least how I think it is.

Yeah, man. I hear ya. Either way this fight should be a welterwight contest. Floyd coming in at 147 and Manny at somewhere around 142. I would hope that in the end the jr middleweight talk was all a bargining ploy and that's all. Manny sure can pack on pure muscle well, though. It's amazing how well he adjusts to higher weight classes. I guess he always had the frame but it's a crap shoot when a fighter jumps weights... Will his chin still be sturdy? Will it diminish his speed? Will he bring his power with him? What's his stamina going to look like? You can very rarely find an athlete of his caliber... Or Floyd's for that matter. His defensive skills are freakish.

Manny Pacquiao looks set to fight Floyd Mayweather Jnr on March 13 after agreeing to a proposal from Bob Arum.
Pacquiao's adviser Michael Koncz said Arum presented the fighter with the proposal at a two-hour breakfast in Manila on Friday.
"The requests of Manny were so realistic that Arum doesn't feel it's a problem and it's pretty much a done deal," Koncz said.
The Filipino legend, who is running for president in his home nation, has some requests of his own that require some ironing out, although trainer Freddie Roach believes they will be no obstacle to the fight the world wants to see.
"We talked to Arum and he had the March date and May 1 available and Manny chose the earlier date because of the elections in the Phillipines, and I can't wait to get started," Roach told Sky Sports News.
"It'll be the biggest fight of all time, the biggest pay-per-view event of all time and my main sparring partner will be Amir Khan.
"There's always negotiations, like he (Mayweather) wants 10oz gloves we want 8oz gloves, stuff like that, the weight he wants is 154lb, we want 147, so there's some issues but I think it can be solved.
"It's a tough fight because his style does give us difficulties, and we need to draft a plan for a new strategy. Yes, it's a tough fight but it's a fight Manny wants."
Both fighters have claims to the right to be called the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, and it appears matters will be settled sooner, rather than later
If true, that is fucking absurd.
Re: Just heard Roach on tv say floyd wants the fight at 154??
I think this is just Floyd's way of saying no catch weight. They will settle on 147. If Floyd said 147 to begin, Roach would probably try to get 140-143 range.

Your talking utter nonsense in this thread man. The fact that Hatton didn't look good at welterweight has nothing to do with the fact that he is a smaller man than Floyd, naturally, he isn't. Floyd has altered his fighting style to suit the move up in weight, because he posseses the physical tools and skillset to do so. Watch him at 130, he could bang with anyone and unleash hurtful combinations, now he strictly throws one punch at a time and potshots his opponents, partly due to fragile hands I'm sure. Also, the fact that Hatton looked bad against Collazo might have had something to do with the fact that he is a sitting duck for the right hook and it was the first world class southpaw he had ever faced, and his slickest opponent to date by FAR. Marquez is the ONLY opponent Floyd has faced in recent years who is in fact naturally a smaller man than he is. And how on earth did he "know" DLH was used up???? He wasn't for christs sake, Oscar gave him a very competitive fight and still had plenty left at 154 pounds at that point.
Re: Just heard Roach on tv say floyd wants the fight at 154??
The only way Pac should go to 154 is for a title and since Pretty Boy does not have 1 at that weight unless he opens his trophy case and uses the 1 he won from Oscar then there is no reason for it to be there. This fight has 147 written all over it and not a pound more. If Floyd wanted to prove how great he was then he would go after Yuri in January and fight Pac in March... I can dream can't I?

Excellent post.
+ Roach is a s**t-stirrer. Mayweather agreed to the terms laid out by ARUM'S contract and he would never put Pac in a ring with MW at 154. Now that Pac has agreed (other than some "minor adjustments"), I'm sure this fight will be taking place. I'd be very surprised if it happens at any weight other than 147 (which is what it should be). Again, while he's a good trainer, Roach is a loud-mouth and a s**t-stirrer and I wouldn't believe anything that comes out of his mouth.
Re: Just heard Roach on tv say floyd wants the fight at 154??
You cannot pick on Floyd anymore than Pac and vice versa, when it comes to the weight issue. Roach has been very shrewd the last two fights in particular to have opposing fighters come in lighter than usual. Both Oscar and Cotto have stamina issues...so bringing them down to 147 and 145 respectively, didn't help their chances (in Oscar's case it clearly just plain ruined him). The whole catch weight issue is ridiculous to me. If you are going to challenge someone for their belt...fight them at the appropriate weight. Anyways...this fight should take place at 147. Neither fighter will have difficulty with that. But boxing is a business...so the negotiations will be a charade. All part of the act to generate buzz.

I guess you missed the Marquez fight?? Or did you just purposely turn a blind eye .
You must've misunderstood. I said Floyd has never asked for a catchweight. Marquez's team is the one who asked for the catchweight. Not Floyd.
Just for the record, Marquez had to go up by 2 weight divisions to fight Floyd and Floyd disrespected the contract to have a woopy 20 pounds (more or less) advantage over Marquez. Floyd fighting midgets is a bit too documented, Roach knows it, he has seen how he ditched 600 000 for ultimate advantages and he won't let it happen to Manny.

It's ridiculous, but I'm 100% certain it's just a negotiation tactic on Floyd's part.
