Evander Holyfield - Won
Apart from holyfield, where are all these great Heavyweights?
Looking down his other fights cant really see anyone worth listing apart from beating Mike Mcullum, losing to Montel Griffin errr twice.
And losing near enough every round to Roy Jones JNR
Great aint he... even if they didnt stop him, Haye would...
Oh dear me.. :D
You are digging your own hole.. anyone worth listing! Dont comment on things if your going off boxrec and havent seen and dont know about the incidents.. im not trying to be a jerk but please.. only express your opinions on fact.. I might seem like a jerk arguing with you but in all fairness there are guys on here so much worse that would be well harsh.
Urr.. lets see
Prince charles williams..
reggie johnson
Iran Barkley
Michael Nunn
In 2003 he was fighter of the year.. he beat visili jirov for the ibf cruiserweight title in one of the best and most skillful fights i have ever seen.. He not only beat evander but for one he was a massive underdog and stopped evander holyfield which only riddick bowe had done up to that point!.. and toney is a middleweight.. and people say evander was past it evander was past it.. but he still went on to beat some tough guys and earn another world title shot and still hasnt been stopped since!..
toney wore him down in a master peice..
and how i can tell for one that you havent seen these fights or havent been informed enough on these boxing matters is that toney has been robbed of decisions he deserved his entire career
he won BOTH montell griffin fights clearly..
He won the first samuel peter fight clearly..
and in my opinion a hell of a lot of his split decisions were unanimous wins for him. should have been..
Like i said.. its not an arguement or any bad blood here..
im just trying to educate you and express my opinion as you are to me with your own opinion.. but i personally believe that my opinions are based on more fact then yours..
and i only ranted like this because you questioned toney's competition.
Peace
Evander was past irt
Iran Barkley wasnt Elite
nor was redggie Johnson
nor was michael nunn
and you copuld only pick 3 out of his entire career
shame...

he won BOTH montell griffin fights clearly..
He won the first samuel peter fight clearly..

thats like me saying oscar won both fights against moseley
or oscar beat trinidad
end of the day the records show they didnt...
-
Re: Who should James Toney fight next?
Plus in my honest opinion..
Ruiz.. Okay he tested positive for steriods.. but a guy lie ruiz who also is a heavyweight veteran having fought a hell of alot of the best guys through this generation.. got schooled by toney.. Steriods dont give you skills and counter rights like toney was hammering ruiz with..
But there is no excuse for steriods whether toney was aware of having these inside of him i dont know.. he claims to have not taken them willingly.
Sam peter 1 - robbery blatantly toney's fight.
hasim rahman 1 +2
one he etched out for me .. honestly.. it might sound like i say it cause im a fan but i really think he won it.
and two.. well i have said the entire time.. bad luck he got cut.. it wasnt that bad.. fighters have gone on with less..
i put the decision down to idiocy and lack of heart from rahman..
firstly he had no heart to fight on after toney started doing well.. he figured that oh i'll get out the easy way and have it Called a technical draw.. when the cut wasnt bad enough to stop and by him saying i cant see.. didnt mean the ref though it was bad enough and the doctor said he could have fought on but he didnt have the heart and wanted the easy way out so toney deserved to take that win.

No.. beacuse real fight fans will know..
and plus trinidad did beat oscar!.. lol and oscar only won the second mosely fight.
Are you kidding me.. Iran barkley and nunn not elite.. Your wrong..
What and Haye IS elite?!
And three names from his period of middle and super middle..
on top of all the names at heavyweight, light heavyweight that you mentioned yourself
i mentioned the ones you didnt not all of them

Errr the guy is cheat, he took steroids, and he didnt willingly know, these guys have people around them that work with that stuff everyday, the top nutritionists anmd physicians, either they are thick, or very bad at what they do, but most people know if they are taking steroids.
So he is either a thick or a cheat and a lier , i would say all three
sam peter
check the records mate he lost...
bad luck he got cut?
no he got cut, that happens in boxing, check the records it was a NC
ok

right so i am not a proper boxing fan because i do not agree with YOUR opinion?
All those heavyweights are not elite, they are second rate, apart from a SHOT Holyfield, the rest wouldnt have lived in the era of tyson lewis, bowe, etc
nunn and barkley are very very good, but not elite, calzaghe would have had them for breakfast
where are the rest of these so called good fighters, after he lost to roy jones most of his fights were against poor opposition
-
Re: Who should James Toney fight next?
also as you say trinidad beat oscar
i dont think he did
its just a personal opinion
but the record books will always say the facts
as toneys last fights, what a waste of air he is...
-
Re: Who should James Toney fight next?
Fine.. heres your list.
Michael Nunn
Mike Mccullum x3
Iran Barkley
Tim littles
----------------
Charles Williams
Roy Jones Jr These three fights in a row!
Montell Griffin
-------------
Montell griffin 2
Vasiliy Jirov
Evander holyfield
John Ruiz
Hasim Rahman X 2
Samuel Peter x2
That is 17 legitimate big name challenging fights, world class.. 5 of those fighters were undefeated at the time when toney fought them.
3 major world titles, Should have been four, the heavyweight title.. and thats an accomplishment only two middlweights have ever gotten in the past.. fought in every weight class from middleweight to heavyweight..fighting the best, ducking nobody, Knocked down legitimately once 17 years ago in a fight he won.. When he signed to fight roy jones he was p4p number 1.. he has a masturful style and is one of the biggest characters in the history of boxing and you question his competition!..
He is a great plain and simple..
If he is not a great then no one is.

Record books show mistakes as much as they do facts.
and secondly you have just discredited your whole arguement by saying something like that.. A waste of air.. a man who has inspired so many people.. a legend like toney and you call him a waste of air..
That is wrong to say about any man, everyone has family and 99.9% of people a good reason to live and work hard..
do you know how hard he has worked over his life time to earn what he has..
and you call him a waste of air..
Not only do i question you as a boxing fan for judging when not having seen these fights.. but i can gaurentee you have never boxed a lick..
because if you had you would have respect for every fighter to a certain degree and you would never say something like that about a guy like toney
-
Re: Who should James Toney fight next?
Michael Nunn - Very Good not Elite
Mike Mccullum- very good not Elite
Iran Barkley - very good not Elite
Tim littles - average
Calzaghe would have beat these four quite easily
----------------
Charles Williams - average
Roy Jones Jr - made Toney look silly, he ,ay have fought someone elite, but when he did he made him look like a schoolboy hahahah
Montell Griffin - err lost UD , and lost again UDevery round on one scorecard:rolleyes:
Vasiliy Jirov - good prospect, nothing more beat a shot holyfield and another poor heavyweight in chageav
Evander holyfield - SHOT
John Ruiz - this man is a waste of time, he wouldnt have last 5 mins with either Lewis or tyson
Hasim Rahman - this man isnt good, he got lucky with a punch, made his name, then has done nothing ever since,
Samuel Peter - why put this man down when he beat Toney twice lol hhahaha
-
Re: Who should James Toney fight next?
JT has had fights from Middle to Heavy. He's never run from anyone one in or outside of the ring. He's been around for years and has had more fights than any other top level fighter for probably over 10 years. (With the exception of a one Mr. Chavez).
There was only a small handfull of fighters he didn't fight and, well, i dont know how Calzaghe would of done agaist Toney but im pretty sure that Eubank and Benn would of both got a spanking. In their primes.

Benn maybe, you never know whats going to happen with him
Eubank, would have beaten Tony no question.
And Tony Prime, wouldnt even come close to Mr Calzaghe
-
Re: Who should James Toney fight next?
Okay fair coment but what exactly would Eubank have on Toney?
James would be in his face all night. You must of saw how Watson had Eubank in all sorts of trouble. That game plan has James Toney written all over it and then some. Plus James is as tough as Eubank if not tougher.
Eubank would of lost badly IMO.
Clazaghe..? Like i say, im not sure. He is a bloody good figher.
-
Re: Who should James Toney fight next?
Michael Nunn - Very Good not Elite - He was p4p ranked.. if you think that someone can be ranked p4p at any time and not be elite then your crazy
Mike Mccullum- very good not Elite - Thats just as you said opinion.. of which at present i do not value yours..
Iran Barkley - very good not Elite - The man beat hearns x2.. had a fight of the year with duran, fought greats like benn, toney, nunn - hes elite
Tim littles - average - Undefeated and dangerous and look at the way toney still took him apart.. proved why he is not elite because toney was on the elite level unlike little who was very good.
Calzaghe would have beat these four quite easily
Maybe.. we will never know. frankly nunn and barkley fought far far far better competition..Plus lets have this right here.. if your telling me toney isnt great and your using calzaghe as a measuring stick you must be out of your mind.. okay.. so he has fought maybe two/three legit tough challengers.. and i cant be mad at his match making of late.. but the man wasted ten years of his prime fighting guys that werent world class level.. toney fought the real fighters while joey c wasted his prime years away.
----------------
Charles Williams - average - Dangerous fight, very good fighter, Natural light heavyweight.. fought good competition.. light heavyweight titlist..
No man who is average wins a world title
Roy Jones Jr - made Toney look silly, he ,ay have fought someone elite, but when he did he made him look like a schoolboy hahahah
- Are we or are we not talking competition.. yes we are.. and no he didnt look silly.. he was steadily beaten over 12 rounds.. thats if you have even seen this fight.
Montell Griffin - err lost UD , and lost again UDevery round on one scorecard
Okay.. so if we are using the measuring stick of one Joeseph calzaghe.. we'll just go ahead and say that joe is not undefeated because robin reid was robbed against him.. And watch them.. they are on youtube.. at least one of the griffin fights.. toney was robbed twice.
Vasiliy Jirov - good prospect, nothing more beat a shot holyfield and another poor heavyweight in chageav- Oh nothing more then that!? Ha.. I mean on top of that he couldnt have been anything more because he wasnt an undefeated world titlist and he didnt win a gold medal in the olympics beating antonio tarver in the process who was at the time the number one amatuer in the world.. Some more facts for you.. you get all this knowledge for your troubles see.. worth it!
Evander holyfield - Great fighter, went on to earn a world title shot after this and still has only been stopped by bowe and toney.. toney manged to do what lewis, tyson and ALLL the rest could not..
John Ruiz - this man is a waste of time, he wouldnt have last 5 mins with either Lewis or tyson - No not 5 minutes because he didnt beat the likes of Mcline, galota, rahman, oquendo, holyfield, and even in his losses he ducked noone of all heavyweights.. and a guy moves up from middleweight puts on a counter punching masterclass and beats him and thats worth nothing..
Hasim Rahman - this man isnt good, he got lucky with a punch, made his name, then has done nothing ever since, - Lol.. You dont get lucky with one punch.. You see an opportunity and take it.. He knocked out the great lennox lewis and has fought in both winning and loosing efforts against all the best heavyweights in the world past and present and has earned world titles.. of course hes worth a damn..
Samuel Peter - why put this man down when he beat Toney twice lol hhahaha[/quote] Just like i said.. Robbed the first fight.. and hes a world titlist, good heavyweight, fought top guys..
And even after all this the plain matter is 11 world titlists.. you cant call any of them average.. because they had world titles.. its ridiculous to call them average. and all the while you talk about joe calzaghe as the measuring stick.. when what has joe calzaghe done?!.. In two weight classes.. only one fight at heavyweight which.. yes of course it had to be .. i had him loosing! this is a crazy arguement.

Benn is the picture perfect fighter for James Toney to stomp the crap out of! Hooks and Uppercuts never anything straight never trying to box....all those big punches would slide right off Toney's defense and he'd counter him with accurate power punches and just demolish Benn.....it's a shame that fight was never made.
Eubank would pose more problems due to his mobility and handspeed but he wouldn't do as well as Roy Jones Jr. did vs him....it was very hard for Roy to land at first.
Calzaghe couldn't carry Toney's jock! First off there's not much on Joe's punches there are only a lot of punches which aren't straight, they are hooks, not many crosses or jabs and to beat Toney you have to throw straight quick shots and know how to box. Joe wouldn't stand and trade like Benn would but he wouldn't be moving all the time like Eubank either. I think Toney in his prime is one of the best fighters P4P of all time.

just cuz i think joe, eubank and benn would beat toney doesnt make me any more right as you saying that thery wouldnt

No, you say that Toney couldn't lace Joe C.'s gloves. Which means he's not in the same class. Which implies that Joe would walk through Toney easily. If want to make a case that Calzaghe, Benn, or Eubank can beat Toney, fine, I'll hear what you have to say and I'd be happy to debate you, but if you imply that Toney isn't in the same class with those guys, you don't know at thing about boxing or you are trying to instigate.
So which is it? Are you just trying to instigate or do you know nothing about boxing ;)

Well I'm just trying to be rational about the whole situation and like clockwork the rabid Joe Calzaghe hooligan fans go apeshit crazy.
Yes Calzaghe is a good fighter BUT you can't look past what James Toney accomplished in his career. Toney fought tougher competition, he beat better fighters, and his defense pretty freaking good even today.

I dont see any point in talking about nowadays. They are multiple weightclasses apart. Toney cannot boil down and Joe wouldnt move up to heavyweight. I dont see how this "murder" could ever take place.
And with a Prime Toney its a pick em for me. I love these fighters and its an intriguing clash of styles. Joe would have problems for sure.

To get back to the topic. I wish Toney would just hurry up and line up another fight asap. I mean he came into the Rahman fight in allot better shape than he had in his previous fights and it only lasted 3 rounds. He should be able to fight again soon. Time really isn't on his side either. I know if I was the manager of Toney I would try and get him back in the ring as soon as I could. That rahman fight didn't really prove anything.

Joe would have problems for sure.
pound for pound, joe prime would beat toney prime...
I will sit on the fence on this one. It could go either way. Toney could forget to train or Joe breaks his hand on Toney's head. Too many variables! ;D

That is a problem at present..
toney has earned his money and is fighting because he wants to fight and fighting for legacy.. plus at top level it gets ridiculous trying to close deals with money and all these ego's getting in the way of good fights.
it would be refreshing if toney could work like alot of young fighters where they train hard for ten weeks.. and if they get a one round blow out its almost a shame that they didnt get any rounds in.. no damage done and all the effort they put in the gym can be saved cos they just go take another fight one or two months later.. and stay in shape in the mean time..
which ironically toney did ALOT when he was coming up.. he would fight exhibitions and non title fights and fight monthly just staying in shape and racking up wins.
still we can still hope for another fight hopefully in three months or so's time maximum.. Who knows if we can get it on though.. time is of the essence and another rahman fight could happen i want to have toney get the legit win cause i know he can.. if not there are still other guys out there to fight.
