Generation Y mate, disposable, convenience. Fav fighter loses, hay hoe, pick a new one next week and start again ;)
RJJ will always be my favorite fighter of this era no matter if he wins or loses. And Marquez, Barrera, lost when i was here did they not ? did you see me dumping them as a fan ?
Secondly the first part Memphis all i have to say is this

Re: Bets On Joe Calzaghe vs Roy Jones In Here.

Kelly Pavlik got added to my list when he beat Bronco McKart, and he is still one of my favorites.
As for RJJ the first fight i watched of his was against Lou Del Valle, when he got dropped i wasn't overly impressed to be honest. Then i caught his fight with Richard Hall i really enjoyed that fight, and his skill set was amazing.
I started following him all the time after that. Then got his career set and when i watched him i was thinking how the hell could he do that ? especially the way he put his hands behind his back against Glen Kelly, i'd never seen anything like that before.

Re: Bets On Joe Calzaghe vs Roy Jones In Here.
Just because im from Britain doesn't mean i should back British fighters boxers are individuals its not just about there country. A lot of football fans dont support there own team e.g my mate is from Mansfield but he doesn't support Mansfield town he doesn't support Nottingham Forest or Notts County he supports Liverpool.

Plus RJJ was one of my hero's growing up,
i think its silly just to root for a fighter. Because there from the same country as you just for the sake of it.
Agreed 100%
It's a weird concept - supporting somebody just because they were born on the same bit of land as you. Can't believe that takes presidence over the fighter in general. For example, i don't like Junior Witter much, but he lives near me.
I sincerely hope Roy Jones rolls back the years and puts on a show. My head says Calzaghe will be too busy for him. I think Roy is at that stage where he is happy just to be headlining, where Calzaghe is desperately trying to stay undefeated. Of course, Jones could be much more determined than we all think. I know he isn't the fighter he once was, but even a 50% Roy Jones is better than most of other light-heavys out there.
disliked calzaghe when he came on the scene, i was guted when he beat eubank, & not happy when he beat reid either, but think i was being prejudiced cos he was welsh (sad i know) but the guy grew on me & after meeting him he was pure class a true gentleman, & thats why i am a big fan

Me too only cause I go for the underdog every fight ,I don't care where they are from.
I want to see the best from everyone and to bring out the best in both I always end up thinking for the underdog, do this ,do that, move here move there, thats it control that side of him, "ohhhhhhh! Nooooooooooo" :eek:and sometimes Ahhhhhhhhhh YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS ;D !
The YES's are worth the wait.
Go ROY.

 So home where you live or home where you were born?
I think follow who ever you like or else we are all tarred with a one sided brush just so others can maintain a flag waving mentality!
What about Saddo should he of been backing German fighters cause he moved over there ? Now he is back in old England so he has to change back now to English fighters?
Born on a plane? You have to barrak for which countrys flag the plane was flying under!
Or can they barrak for anyone?
I don't want to be forced into barraking for Mundine (on your set of rules) if he ever fights over there in England, Im switching to rule no #3 and going for my country of births fighter on the night not where my passport said I am from.Actually Im froma vagina so that wil explain why im being such a c... on this matter;)

Re: Bets On Joe Calzaghe vs Roy Jones In Here.
I'll take Calzaghe with whoever for whatever. IMO, Roy is the only guy fast enough and with enough power to go along with his speed to really have a chance to beat Joe.
I think though that Joe knowing he's done after this fight, he's highly motivated and he's gonna have a go fro broke attitude that's gonna carry him to huge victory. Win or lose, it's gonna be a much better fight than the one against hopkins because he's fighting a guy who not gonna need to cheat and can handle losing like a man.

Thats ridiculous you sound just like another member who used to be here Yotisdan. Boxing is not about country vs country is about two guys in the ring putting it all on the line.
I either like a fighter or i don't i personally don't like Ricky Hatton, or Joe Calzaghe's style so why should i root for them ? you just said you don't like Hatton or Calzaghe's style yet you root for them ?
I really don't understand that at all, you should root for the fighter who you appreciate the most for there skills, heart, or exciting style. Which ever one it is it shouldn't be just because they come from the same country.
As for your last comment i couldn't careless about football, i don't mind playing it but i never follow it and i don't understand the hype it gets.

We'll just have to agree to disagree.
I knew somebody would pick apart the football analogy as they don't like the sport - but the priniciple is the same imo.
Answer me this, did you route for The US or China in the Olympics because they had the better athletes? Did you want Massa to beat Hamilton becuase you prefer his driving style? Did you want Federer to beat Murray becuase he's the better player? Or the US to win the Ryder Cup because they had the better players...
Maybe you don't follow any other sport at all so couldn't care less but I think you can at least appreciate what I'm saying.
Kids who supported Man Utd when I was growing up were ridiculed for being 'glory fans'. They opted to support the best team in the country over their home town team just because they were the best team.
Maybe it's blinded loyalty or something on my part, but I just thought in sport you back your own countryman. 99% of everyone I know does...

Re: Bets On Joe Calzaghe vs Roy Jones In Here.
Totally agree that you should ALWAYS support your national fighter no matter what!!
Baffles me that anyone could and would want to slate Calzaghe who is easily the best fighter the UK has ever produced.
One look at his record should fill you with pride:cool:
Trust me,you'll miss him when he's gone!
Top drawer fighter imo.

I don't agree with you mate boxers are individuals with a individual style and we become fans of them because of these styles or personality not because of where they come from. I don't like Joe because i don't like his style or personality so whether he is from Britain or not i won't cheer for him i was a fan of Mike Tyson and i liked Lennox Lewis who is British but i still rooted for Tyson and didn't root for my countryman i rooted for my favourite of the 2.

Like I said in my post above, I support loads fighters from overseas, infact nearly all my boxing heroes are not British, but hero or not I would want them to lose if they were fighing a Brit. Just the way I'm built, no right or wrong answer on this one, guess it's just about how much pride you have in your country

Re: Bets On Joe Calzaghe vs Roy Jones In Here.
So am I wrong for wanting Hatton to spank colazo, mayweather
For wanting Cotto to beat Mosely, etc etc.
for wanting the Dallas Cowboys to smack the Philadelphia Eagles? lol.
When you are a fan, nothing should change your perspective imo.
If i'm a fan of hatton and he's fighting the USA's biggest sensation.. oh well, hatton gets my cheer.. because THATS who I'm a fan of.

It's just I don't think it is fair to want someone I've always wished the best for to lose all of a sudden because he's fighting someone of my nationality.

Nice analysis I can see where your coming from.
Though Junior Witter I will NEVER ever root for. I can't stad that guy. So boring and so arrogant.
Every other British fighter bar Calzaghe I root for at all times. I wanted Calzaghe to beat Hopkins, but I wanted Kessler to beat Calzaghe.
-
Re: Bets On Joe Calzaghe vs Roy Jones In Here.
Calzaghe is my main man and I'm willing to take a bet with anyone. He will beat Jones Jr. and do it with style. If he is anything near his best he will overwhelm Jones Jr with his volume down the stretch. Anything less and its a decent points win. He cannot afford to get sloppy though, and he certainly shouldnt treat Jones as anything less than a legitimate challenge. Jones Jr is a legend and should be treated as such.
Come on Joe!!!
