He has to knock him out..really.Pavlik looks spent.Very good fight, back and forth
wow respect to both guys and unless pav knocks him out this should be martinez's but he hasnt had luck on the cards..........
If they rob martinez of this one they mid as well pull a gun on him and run through his socks too.
they better not take this from martinez....if they do he needs to say f*** off to fighting in the us
Martinez may turn some off but he earned this one.Damn shame if they screw him...and the fans.Guts by Pavlik and he stayed in but really was out sped and ultimately out punched imo
Good for martinez he and ali fueneka deserve belts...
thank god they get it right for once, and didn't give the dude the shaft yet again!!! Repect to pavlik he was turnin it up till that nasty cut...
I thought it was a good fight and Martinez deserved it. I'd pick him in the rematch.
He deserved it, the cuts seemed to bother Kelly too much and the speed which he seemed to adjust to became a factor again.
Feel for Pavlik a bit but mass respect for both.Martinez is quality but can be frustrating as hell ha.Hope Pav keeps at it and wel...doesnt turn to other things,Hes a good guy.Rematch would be good
This guys resume could read tko 6 cintron( robbed of that), williams possible decision, and pavlik decision, dam nice resume...and always class
big props to pavlik those cuts definitely bothered him...feel for him, hopefully he sticks around
That was some upper cut that Bute landed.....
Miranda learned he shouldnt clown and talk smack during the prefight/promotion but forgot that during the fight. His trainer should have slapped the shit out of him in between rounds after he first started that crap not that it would have made a difference.
I thought it was a bit of an early stoppage in the Miranda vs. Bute fight.
Reminded me of Oliver McCall vs. Lennox Lewis I.
Congrats to the new champ!
I may be in the minority(which is fine) but I thought in the rounds prior to the cut Pavlik was starting to figure him out. He was starting to make Sergio miss wildly and frequently out jabbing him. I thought Pavlik was on his way to eeking out a close points win...maybe a disputed decision to some. Once he got cut, he just broke down like Juan Diaz.
Speaking of Diaz's. Where the hell was Pavlik's cutman Miguel Diaz?
What the hell was Miranda thinking  Before the knockout, I thought he looked helluva lot better technically than he has in the past. In retrospect his handlers should have probably waited for another shot at Stieglitz.
No, I thought exactly the same. Pavlik started to get closer in the 4th and then in the 5th you sensed a change in the ebb of the fight. The cut was a bad one and blood was oozing out. There must have been issues with visibility. To an extent Martinez made adjustments, but that cut occured at almost the same time. Which was it? Did Martinez find a second wind or did Pavlik wilt because of the bleeding? Probably a bit of both. There is no doubt that Pavlik looked like a fish out of water down the stretch and Martinez was coming on. I think Pavlik deserves another shot at Martinez and it is in the contract, but he really needs to show more than what he did. In the face of adversity Pavlik was far too meek. Martinez fought out of his skin today and good on him for getting the win, but there are question marks. Cuts affect different fighters in different ways, look what Pac did to Morales in the rematch. I'm not saying Pavlik is Manny Pac, but he was well in the fight going into the 9th and arguably up on the cards with the KD.
great win for bute. all of sudden he is packing some power. along with his boxing skills this guy is very dangerous. right now I would take him against any of the super six.
martinez was nothing short of spectacular. he is a top 5 p4p. he fights the best fighters and is simply amazing! I thought pavlik had turned it around and was on his way to a tko or ko, but that left in the 9th obviously changed everything. I'm sure kelly will be back. I mean without the cut over the right eye he most likely wins..can't wait for II
Martinez is not top 5 P4P.....
Bute has 21 KO's out of 26 fights...The power is not a new novelty......
Martinez fights too reckless...The kid has shit on his resume but Cintron and Williams....He has little power and very poor defense....
Martinez fights another fighter with similar speed he is a memory..
Foreman at 154 beats him to a UD IMO....Cotto beats him up and takes his Body away....(Pacquiao's speed bothered Cotto...Martinez is no Pacquiao in speed terms)...
Pacquiao, Mayweather, JMM, Dawson, Mosley, Bradley, Bute, Ward, Alexander, Darchinyan......to name a few...
Who is this kid better then P4P?.....I pick Manny and Shane to both beat him up at 154.....If Ward made 160 for 1 fight this guy would be on his back before the 3rd......
This guy is not top 5 P4P...
FINALLY sergio gets a decision in the states
Even though he battered pavlik i seriously pondered whether martinez would actually get the decision
Pavlik is the most fabricated world champ of all time. Ive said from day one a top quality fighter will always get the better of kelly and i was right all along.
martinez is the bees knees, seriously hoping to see him in with williams again down the line
In total agreement with Rantacrat. I was there for the fight in A.C. and it seemed that Kelly was taking the fight over until the ninth round and the cut happened. Later I watched it on T.V. and you can hear him say as soon as the round was over"I can't see shit" and Loew spews out "don't f**king say that" yes I agree 110% with the new trainer theory. Jack Loew is a horrible trainer and didn't even know what to tell his man except"you have to pressure this kid". For christ's sake the cutman should be shot. An absolute disgrace that he couldn't get the cut to stop bleeding even just a little bit. I would be asking Emanuel Steward and someone like Joe Souza in the corner if I were Pavlik.
I don't believe however that Pavlik is done or is a fabricated champ as someone had mentioned. I just think he doesn't belong in the 160 lbs class anymore. I mean he completely dehydrated himself to make 160 and comes in at 178 a day later. That is way too much weight to quickly. I mean shit think about it 18lbs in 24 hours ??? That's f**king insane. He belong's in the super middleweight's but Pavlik will probably get the rematch at 160 and I still think he can beat Martinez late in that fight.
Bute I really don't even need to comment on. Right now the man is clearly the best super middleweight and I don't think anyone in the super six can beat him.
