JC as never number 1 p4p and we all know it.
BUT - 'Past his best Hopkins' has cropped up again! I don't care if Hopkins is 65 years old, his performances against Tarver and Pavlik are better than anything he produced in his so called prime (except for maybe the Tito fight)
2008 Hopkins beats 1993 Hopkins FACT!!!

Frank Sinatra, Joe DiMaggio, Rocky Marciano, Rocky Graziano, Jake LaMotta, all considered themselves ITALIAN-Americans, not just Americans. Calzaghe is Italian, Enzo is from ITALY. The name CALZAGHE is Italian. His DNA is Italian. He is Italian. If you are born on Mars, are you a Martian? Hell no. You are what your DNA is. Can't change that ever.

That's utter nonsense.
Men can impregnate literally thousands of birds every year. The birds can only get rid of it every 9 months.
Calzaghe's mum was British. Let him loose in England. His Dad is a bit part player.
Calzaghe is closer to English than anything else. It's undeniable. Fact.

2008 Hopkins beats 1993 Hopkins FACT!!!
Tarver and Pavlik were good style matchups for an older Hopkins.
Pavlik relied heavily on his 1-2 combination. Once Hopkins took that away with lateral movement, angles and defence, Pavlik looked lost and had no answers.
Tarver was also a fighter who relied on his jab and big left hand and was normally most effective being the counter puncher. Hopkins forced him to come forward and used movement, angles and quick right hands to dominate him.
I agree that a 1993 Hopkins loses to a 2008 Hopkins but a 1993 Hopkins was not in his prime.
A prime Hopkins years were around 1999 to 2003.
Hopkins was still a good fighter against Joe and is a good win for him but as it stands, he was 43 years old so certainly no longer at his best.

Hopkins has never fought better than he did against pavlik and Jean pascal to win WBC light heavyweight title and he will admit that himself!! Hopkins was so gutted that he lost to calzaghe he always avoids talking about him like when max Kellerman was interviewing him after the chad Dawson fight .

sensitive much? friggin Jersey Shore reject
there's a reason why you still need to grasp so tightly onto LaMotta and Marciano as the best Italy has produced, seeing how well apart from maybe Antefuermo there hasn't been a hell of a lot more to come out, unless you really wanna put down the likes of Manfredo Jr and Malignaggi as recent greats :-X
and who gives a fuck if Enzo Calzaghe is Italian it's only half the equation when it comes to Joe, at most he'd be half, which well again shows how desperate you must be to claim him as one of your own haha

of course I have, Benn and Eubank both solid guys and great fighters, Henry Cooper one of the gutsiest HW's to fight a prime Muhammad Ali, Ken Buchanan (I know technically Scottish) but one of the most underrated lightweights ever, Lewis one of the better HW's of the past 15 yrs, plenty more, just recent guys like Hatton, Haye, Khan, and Calzaghe get a bit more credit than they really deserve

I tend to disagree, Hopkins was at his best imo from around 95 to 2004 imo.

No 1 , a lot of critics just find it hard to accept that he was no 1.

Even funnier is the fact Joe considers himself Welsh which is fine , he doesnt say Italian Welsh , probably because of people like you.
Who went from an avatar of a half naked gay guy , to someone with a cigar trying to be Tony Soprano.:LOLATYOU: .
A guy who knows so much about boxing he asks things like - " is a punch to the hip legal "
"Is it ok to rabbit punch someone " ?

You and I can post any pic we want on our avatar. Are you so closed minded Al? He doesnt say Italian-Welsh because of me? Wow, you're giving me quite alot of power there, that I can actually influence Joe Calzaghe's slef-reference! You are quite ridiculous of a man, or shall I say boy? You unimaginative, stiff, smallminded little twit, you can have no fun in life, youre so hung-up about what pic somebody puts on their avatar. This speaks volumes about your neuroses. See a shrink, bitch.

Exactly, Calzaghe is a great fighter, but all these 'purists' want to knock him and say that he couldn't punch properly or that he didn't prance about throwing 20 punches a round like Mayweather. To hell with all that, the man came out and overwhelmed you with his sheer brilliance. And not only was he a great fighter, but he had the audacity to look good too. Lot's of jealous and ugly keyboard warriors out there IMO and all in love with their ugly fighters that make them feel better about themselves.
P4P the greatest fighter ever IMO. Nobody could ever outwork Joe Calzaghe. Not even Sven Ottke.
-
Re: JOE CALZAGHE retired p4p no1 in world will it ever happen again??
By the way, Calzaghe only punched like he did later in his career when his hands went. Earlier in his career he punched tough.
-

It's the America disease really. He beat Jones with his hands by his waist and made Hopkins look like a complete div after a slow start.
American's hate it because he was a class above any of these so called athletes that they can produce. They can move about throw a few punches, but none of them have the kind of technique and skill that Calzaghe had. No big name trainer, no Philly shell, nothing. Just completely unique and they can't make head nor tail of it.
You can't understand it, so just pick holes and hate it. Calzaghe was great, never lost and really had no serious flaws. He could adapt and do what he wanted.
Jones is held up as this superior athlete, but not really. Stick him in there with a man that throws like Calzaghe, Jones could never have kept up or properly evaded him over 12. I give Jones a punchers chance as he isn't outworking Calzaghe.
-
Re: JOE CALZAGHE retired p4p no1 in world will it ever happen again??
Joe Calzaghe retired as P4P #1 ???? ROFL.
Calzaghe is merely a wannabe. Sure he had talent & if he'd been blessed with a set of champions cojones maybe he would have made the lower regions of P4P.
Only the most rabid Calzaghe disciple would claim Calzaghe LEGITIMATELY beat Bernard Hopkins. Calzaghe hadly threw 30 LEGAL punches ROFL plus he was put on his ass.
If Calzaghe REALLY thought he beat Hopkins he would have done what a real fighter would do FIGHT a REMATCH!!! at home in wales to erase all doubt who won. Instead Joe slunk off and retired to sniff the white stuff, get drunk, chase ho's & kill innocent little rabbits. If only he'd been a man instead of a mouse.
Forget Mayweather too for the same reason as Calzaghe. All mouth no balls

Since when did Calzaghe start throwing legal punches and not slaps??? Sure he was unbeaten because he ducked all dangerous opposition till forced to meet Bernard Hopkins. He received a split dec win he in NO WAY IN HELL deserved. Thats why he ducked a rematch & retired ROFL

He threw legal punches. Sure, they weren't thrown in the way that 'brother Naz' would instruct but they were thrown and he was never warned about it. They were legal, otherwise show me the rule to show his punches weren't. You can't. The man threw punches and lots of them. So despite your prejudice, you should get the fuck over it.
Now he ducked all dangerous opponents until Hopkins? You really are stupid. His record is no worse than that of Hopkins nor Jones, but I'm sure you preferred how they threw a punch. Jones fought a serious lot of crap and Hopkins liked to parade over former WW's.
And hahaha, he beat Hopkins over the last 8 rounds, it wasn't even close.
