because power does not come from weight, we can't automatically assume today's behemoths (Wlad, Fury) punch harder than the Lennoxes and the Mike Tysons just because they're bigger. And yet my point remains, which is that we used to see more meaningful exchanges between the heavyweights of that era (Lewis, Tyson, Vitali, etc) than we do now..... at least where Wladimir and maybe now Fury are concerned.
It's like now they're more conscious of their size and power... and more afraid of taking a decent shot on the chin. This all started with Wlad, of course, who was the King of fighting like a scared deer protecting that fragile chin of his.
I just dont agree and cant.
Lennox was a big heavy man himself!!
Mike Tyson is a good example. Although not a small heavyweight in the sense of weight, compared to the 70's fighters he is small compared to the big fighters today but renowned for power. Freddie Roach has taken both Mike Tyson and Wladimir Klitschko on the pads and he is quoted as saying although Mikes punches were more explosive Wlad landed with more weight.
Obviously if you have that kind of weight landing its going to move you and move you more than someone 30 or 40lb lighter.
OK I should have written knockout do not come from power alone the biggest factors are surprise of not expecting it, speed and technique.

Yes thats correct but men arent that much less skilled these days. So the shots that are landing are landing with more weight and until a fighters ability to take a punch is improved like the ability to increase strength then fighters will get stopped more frequently.
Basically if Ali was fighting today hed be probably 10 to 20lb heavier muscled.

I think the top heavyweights are less skilled than they were in the 1990's and 1970's heavyweights

I just don't see Wlad or Fury (or Wilder, for that matter) having more KO power than a Lennox, a Mike Tyson, or a Vitali. To me the dividing line was between the Ali's, the Fraziers, versus today's HW's.
Remember the toe-to-toe between Mike Tyson and Buster Douglas? Those guys went all out on offense, trying to knock out the other guy. Same can be said for Vitali-Lennox, Tyson-Holyfied, and numerous others.
Compare those with any of Wlad's fights, including this latest one versus Fury...... and you can see a humongous difference. Before, HW's fought to knock the other guy out. Nowadays, they fight to survive and not get knocked out. Big difference.
