Your killin me now. If a guys knocks out 25 cab drivers that u never saw before does that really mean he has power. Winky wright stopped 18 of his first 25 opponents and everybody know he dont have power. But i get what u sayin. If you dont see the fighter fight the fight u dont really know. But when i see a guy with a high ko perentage i dont assume he has power. i just assume that he tries to get guys out of there. U gota remember they dont seperate kos and tkos when they show a record. I mean a guy could have 25 ko but 15 of them was tkos that were built up from accumulation. So that do necessarily mean he has power. U hit a rock long enough and eventually it will crack.
Again if u dont go by KO percentage how do u judge a guys power if u havent actually been hit by him? Especially if u havent seen him much before?
He's lost me completely
I mean even if you want to split hairs and say that a high KO record might just mean he wears them down with an accumulation of punches rather than one punch power I don't see how that makes them less dangerous?
Anyway Torres had 22 KO's in 24 fights going into the Cotto fight. I'm fairly sure when his team looked at him they didn't go 'yeah he looks like a powderpuff, Cotto will be safe with him'
Re: Can someone explain to me WHY GOMEZ gets to fight COTTO?
INO Gomez is just a sacrificial lamb getting sent out to get his ass handed to him!
Re: Can someone explain to me WHY GOMEZ gets to fight COTTO?
I didn't browse the whole thread so I assume it's already been answered...
The answer to the thread question is simple:
After two tough fights against Judah and Mosley, and with another tough fight coming up against the Cintron/Margarito winner, Cotto deserved a fight against an opponent who would be easy by comparison.
Gomez is perfect.
1. He's not good enough to be a real danger to Cotto.
2. He's got a crowd-pleasing style.
3. People know him from the Contender.
4. People know him because he's coming off a win over Gatti on HBO.
So, in short, Gomez is an opponent with a recognizable name that will get people to tune in, and an aggressive style that will allow Cotto to look good and exciting in victory.

Majesty is right. Its not about him takin a gimmie because yes he may desrve it and yes floyd has had some gimmes but the point he is tryng to make is if floyd was fighing gomez ther would be non-stop threads critizing him but people "like" cotto so its ok for him to have gimmes. And if you think cotto is that one man that can beat floyd then that means you put him in the same class as floyd. So by that standard they should be treated the same. Cotto should be critizide for this just like floyd was when he fought mitchell.
P.S. IMO cottos first 25 opponents were "gimmes" (or at least they would be if floyd was fighting them)
Floyd is the universally recognised p4p number 1 fighter in the sport, he's at the pinnacle of his career and the absolute top of his game so is neccesarily held to a higher standard than Miguel Cotto.
:thumb: Its not rocket science.
Whether you think its unfair or not, the top guy in a sport is always held to a higher standard. There was a time when I criticized Floyd's competition but I don't anymore (although the news about him possibly wanting a Hatton rematch did make me throw up in my mouth a little) and he's at the point in his career where only big fights are worthy of his time. Cotto's not far from there but he's not on that level yet. If he takes two gimmes in a row then that's another story but as long as he goes back to making big fights next time out then I don't see what the problem is.
"Cotto should be critizide for this just like floyd was when he fought mitchell"
Floyd had just fought N'dou, Corley, Bruseles and Gatti. Cotto has fought Quintana, Urkal, Judah, and Mosley. Its not the same thing. And people were as much annoyed with Floyd for just skipping past 140. The saving grace for the Mitchell fight was that it was Floyd's first at 147 so a easier fight at a new weight class isn't as bad as one at the one you've been fighting at.

Ok but at 140 lookin back in hindsight who was he suppose to fight. Cotto or hatton? Did they really wanna fight floyd then. I dont think so.

Abduleuv who?u cant be serious. Quintana? please upload the fight that shows his awesome power cause i never seen it. like i said stop pinching at straws i gave u judah and mosley. Come on be honest did u think that before any of these fights any of these guys was gonna knock cotto out? no u didnt. they were safe fights that he just made harder than they needed to be

Talk about pinching at straws...
Winky had/has power the fact that he has switched up his game and formed himself as one of the finest fighters of our times is another story.
Hopkins had awsome power early in his career. But because he chose a different route and decided to become a boxer that means he doesn't have power?
They said the same thing about Monzon when he went over there to fight Nino and look what happened. When the power is there you know it and to say Torres doesn't have it is wrong.
