But on another thread you've just said that Marquez has no business being at 140...
He would still beat Ricky Hatton, who's punch resistance is totally gone. And his life style is terrible, no JMM doesn't belong at 140 in truth. But he would still destroy Ricky Hatton.
Who at 140, do you think would beat Marquez?
Re: Hatton coming back for one fight only
Its good for Hatton if he gets Marquez.
In my opinion... Marquez is really sluggish above 135 lbs. he's badly beaten at 135 by Casa and Diaz tho he has the guts en route for winning.
Remember at Floyd-JMM fight Marquez is close to 140 weighing @ 142 he's slow even cant hurt Floyd tho he's at 146 at 140lbs up i guess Marquez lost his speed and punching power.
The problem now is Hatton can weigh back a healthy fighter at 140.?
He needs to win big time on his last hurrah then he can retire for good.

Doesnt fill me with a hell of a lot of confidence
Losing all that weight and going through all that pain just for a nights work knowing regardless of what happens you wont be doing this again.
I know ive been saying this a hell of a lot recently but....the guy is a mere 30years old and yet wants to hang it up.
Yes i know his lifestyle isnt suited for him going on much further...but he still could surely continue for a couple of years winning world titles at welter??

As much as i would love to see Ricky carry on a few more years he is way past his best ( Olivera fight at his best ) and the way he is now handling himself out-side the ring also concerns me, he seems to enjoying :-X himself way too much to justify a return on a long term basis. He now reminds me of the way Michael Gomez carried on in the latter stages of his career.
Re: Hatton coming back for one fight only
Think people tend to forget that Marquez isn't even a 135 fighter, just went there to chase Pac. Diaz and old Casa were no where near elite at the time, but were considered great wins because he was fighting bigger men so late in his career.
IMO JMM is the most winnable fight out there for him which would give him actual kudos (though again skewed cos the guy is considerably smaller, yet fits right in with Hattons misunderstanding of the p4p system.). JMM did NOT carry his speed and power up the weight and would prob be munched by Cotto, as wopuld Hatton.

i agree when it comes down to his outside life that if his head isnt in it there is absoloutely no point in ruining an outstanding career and becoming a punch bag.
But if ricky was to come back with the heart and determination to leave the sport on top of a division, theres no reason why he cant go on for another 2-3 years and retire with a record of 48,49-2

Correct.
Re: Hatton coming back for one fight only
What would fighting on prove if it wasn't against the best? He don't need the money BUT he wont fight for chump change after making £10+ million paydays.
Marquez gives him the chance to fight a great and earn a shitload of dough for the pain ;)

Correct.
To be fair to JMM he jumped up 2weight classes to fight the greatest current p4p fighter in his absoloute prime.
Pac did it against a guy who wasnt even in the top 20 and whos best years were far beyond him.
Marquez realised from the 2ndround onwards he was out of his depth physically and chose to try and go the long way around beating floyd instead of going toe to toe with him and getting hurt by a natural 147pounder.
Despite beating diaz in 9 he struggled to physically impose himself that night also because once again unlike manny he was fighting a world class operator who had awesome punch power for a 135pounder and not....david diaz:o
Re: Hatton coming back for one fight only
Still i can see Hatton could be winnable against Marquez as long he's healthy to go at 140lbs where he's belong.
Marquez is not tested against a 135lbs above , how fool to jump 2 weight classes to fight unbeaten fighter like Floyd even he didnt even try 140lbs and he's hittable in 135 tho he's gutsy wins (Casa and J.Diaz).
Hatton could fight this Marquez for the last time.
Marquez also is in last hurrah he's 37. he's very hittable and some tendency you can see his skills are deteriorated when he's gaining weight or maybe on his age factor also.
Re: Hatton coming back for one fight only
Even if 140 is not his comfort zone, I could easily see Marquez winning it, Hatton resistance seems to have totally faded out and the fact that he has to cut so much weight so fast can just seriously annoy him and play its toll. Even though it might be competitive for a while, Marquez is a damn good counter puncher and HAtton has difficulties with that, once again, no good for his head.

I'd have Marquez favourite as well, but there isn't another remotely winnable fight out there for him without going ridicilously down the pecking order. His natural size would give him an advantage over JM that he simply wouldn't have against any noteworthy 140er.
HTH: Juan Diaz is an awsome power puncher, are you sure?
Re: Hatton coming back for one fight only
For those that are saying Marquez has no business at 140, please tell me who would beat him and why you think that?

I don't think he has no business there, someone listed the main names at 140 in another thread and it's a very weak division at the moment. Bradley's probably the guy, yet no stand out. Personally I'd think he'd struggle with the size of a Bradley and the power of an Urango, be interested in seeing him have a go though.

While both would beat Hatton, I highly doubt that JMM could do it easier than Cotto. Firstly, while I don't agree with the "toughness" comment, you could make an argument for it. Secondly, Cotto is WAY bigger and
WAY stronger than JMM. Not only does he know how to counter (which would be JMM's biggest tool), but he can box and fight as well. His best days may be as far back as pre-Marga-cheato, but to last 12 rounds (below your normal fighting weight) against a vicious p4p king, with an incompetent corner... that takes toughness AND skill.
I wouldnt say way stronger, JMM did hurt pac which Cotto failed to do.
