Good work Gimli.
I don't think such a cool person exists who can play Aragorn, certainly not on this site.
I'm disappointed Mick turned down the role of Elrond.
Mick it was an honourary position only, you don't need to join the clan to assume the role.
It's only really for Baggins Clan play's and pantomimes. For such event's we like to get the senior Saddonian's participating as well.
It's just for Christmas panto and things like that.
You up for it?

Of course.. I'm up for any such games which involves the clan...

I'll have to distribute all these once they are ready unless people can collect from here.. Actually, i'll start a "collect your baggins clan avatars here" thread...

Unfortunately the role I have in mind for you Donny is more major. The role of Legolas cannot be an honouray role as he's an indispensable member of the 'party of the nine'.
You'd need to be a member of Clan Baggins to take on what, after Gandalf, would be the most prestigious role handout so far.
Join the Clan Donny! We need a young, good looking, talented warrior for the role of Legolas.
If not you, we only have Clubber, and he's already stained his tights through masturbation :-X

We have a large problem then, I'm a sworn member of the old guard.
My leaving the gurad would be betrayal which woul translate to the Baggins-speak equivalent of Sam Gamgee going to work for Sauron.
And Bilbo, your extremely persuasive, ever think of taking up a position in Public relations?

No worries Donny, I respect your allegiance to the Old Gaurd.
Clubber, it appears shall put on the green tights and adopt the role of Legolas. We'll have to scrub the stains of the front and try and get him to restrain from pleasuring himself whilst wearing the Clan costume and carrying out Clan functions.
You are still a friend of the Baggins Clan though Donny and will of course be given an honouray role for pantomime season. :)

Rains is Pippin
PacStraight is Merry
Miles is Gandalf
BruceLee is Sam Gamgee

I started out in the old guard clan but when agent Bilbo offered me the role of Gandalf I just could not refuse. It is obviously the role of a lifetime.
And I wear a dress.

See, Bilbo knows how to sweeten a deal. All this Old Guard 'We offer nothing but the honour and dignity that goes with accepting such a position' crap. It's not what the people want.
People want a nice flashy avatar, a costume, a LOTR starring role, a cool sig (on the way) and daily gifts of rep, lots and lots of rep
Baggins Clan, the ONLY clan for discerning Saddonian's :)

Yes, the 2 wise men relaxing with their pipes, contemplating their long intersting lives.. There some Gandalf fighting ones, but this one was very dignified and is a little more reflective of Miles nature I think..

Bilbo is fair to assume that as Book to Film conversions go LOTR was damn good?

By and large it was an excellent translation. Peter Jackson did make a few alterations from the book, which as a purist, somewhat irked me, but in truth kind of improved on the book.
For example in the book it was not Arwen who helped Frodo overcome the Black Riders by flooding the Ford but Glorfindel.
At Helms' Deep no alliance of Elves arrived from Lothlorien to support Rohan against the Orcs of Saruman,
And Saruman and Grimer Wormtongue in the book both went to the Shire after being released by the ents where Saruman was killed by Grimer. None of this was shown in the films.
But all in all it was an exellent translation. They kept Tom Bombadil out and the goings on in the Old Forest and the Barrow Downs, which I believe was a good thing.
Bombadil and his wife Goldberry were a frankly, weird couple in the book, singing and skipping along, Bombadil himself, dressed like a large brightly coloured Gnome. I don't think he would have translated well to film at all so Jackson, like Raplh Bashki before him took the sensible approach of leaving him out altogether.
I thought it was actually a good idea to give Arwen a bigger role as well as her romance with Aragorn is hidden away in the book almost to the point of irrelevence. Jackson managed to draw it out and add some depth to, what always should have been a more significant aspect of the story, the tale of an Elven princess giving up her mortality to live and die, the wife of a mortal man.
In truth, I think it is the greatest translation of book to big screen that there has ever been and that Jackson's work is tremendous.
I remember when first hearing the Fellowship of the Ring was in production thinking there was no way in hell that anyone could pull it off, especially this Jackson bloke who I had never even heard of.
But he aced it, a masterpiece and imo should have won 3 Oscars for it.
The Fellowship of the Ring Extended edition especially, is the greatest piece of cinema ever made imo. Perfect from beginning to end, as I'm sure Legion will agree.
-
Re: Bilbo's Clan and Role Assignments
Thats what I had thought really.
I feel the inclusion of Bombadil and Goldberry would have destroyed the tone of the film really.

Miles it's easy.
Simply right click on the picture of Gandalf and save it to your harddrive.
Next go to the control panel options, select avatar, and then look for the option where is says 'upload from location on harddrive' or words that effect.
Click the browse button there to go to your computer, find and click on the picture and it will load it as your avatar.
Save the changes and you are done, and officially Gandalf! :)

Donny, don't feel bad if you can't join I understand.
Although as I understand it, according to JT Rock, the 'Old Guard' arn't a clan at all but merely a group of veteran individuals striving to uphold the traditions of Saddo's.
As a longtime poster myself, along with Miles and Dizaster, the Baggins Clan also believes such values are to be desired and would seek ourselves to conduct our clan affairs with restrained dignity and with respect for Saddo traditions, affirming every member to be valuable in the eyes of Saddo.
You could become a member of Clan Baggins without comprimsing your committment to the Saddo Way.
I'm sure the Old Guard would understand, as after all they are above such petty jealousies and sqaubbles.........

I desperately want to buy a copy of that!!! I had all of the regular editions when they all came out, but I one day saw The Return of the King extended edition and had to buy it... After watching it right through, the extra scenes add much more than just the extra 30 minutes or so of viewing time.. It gives more depth... That was years ago now, and i've been dieing to get the other 2 extended editions.. Just 3 weeks ago I found The Two Towers extended and bought that... Havn't watched it yet though as I reallllllly want to get Fellowship extended and watch them in order....
Even for a real purist as Bilbo said, looking at the entirety of the books, and how well Jackson did to fulfill the huge vision and scope that the books had, it's really hard to imagine it being much better than how they turned out...
Some people complained about how a lot of the tradition was presented as "Old English/Celtic" when there isn't any mention of such in the book..
But I think it was a great way to really give the scenes in the movie a deep tradition through that celtic image...

I am confused JT, so is the Old Guard a clan like mine or not?
If not, why do you object to Old Guard becoming part of Baggins Clan?
And if so, why do you ridicule my clan for being as such, when in truth your group is the same?

Ok.
1) No Hierarchy, other than you need 1000 posts and 18 months membership to be considered. Anybody else is NOT welcome. That's a pretty elitist heirachry if you ask me.
2) Endorsed by Saddo? I presume by this you are referring to his 'nice idea' post in the Old Guard Thread. A full endorsment indeed.
3) Dog and Pony Show on the main board, JT no Clan Baggins member ever posts in any of the Boxing boards, you should really know this by now. We exist only in the hidden forums, plus we are still saving for a pony.

Sorry Bilbo, I forgot to mention.. I took my Baggins Clan Jack Russell out for a quick run in Boxing Talk earlier this morning... It was like, 5am and didn't think anyone would notice...
I've learnt from my mistake now though.. He likes to run around in here anyway and no one seems to mind that he poops everywhere..

It'll be great when the signature is up and running, then the entire team will look sharp..
Until then, i'll do my best to make uniform Avatars for everyone possible

But the new one matches the rest of the Clan Rains!
We want to all have matching Clan costumes. It should be a badge of pride.
Baggins Clan - Pippin.
You are an integral part of the Clan Pippin, you need to wear the official Clan Pippin Badge!

I'll have to distribute all these once they are ready unless people can collect from here.. Actually, i'll start a "collect your baggins clan avatars here" thread...
Bilbo,
Can you pick another role? Merry is one ugly mofo! ;D
Plus, isn't the word "merry" associated with the word "happy" or "GAY"?

Re: Bilbo's Clan and Role Assignments
Ive chosen to accept the role of Gandalf because its good to be able to transform into a wizard every now and then. Simple as. I like old guard and Im all for it too. I think ideologically I am an old school Saddonian and have a lot in common with other long time members. I wouldnt mind being a member of both actually but was won over by a fond interest in taking on the wise old Gandalf persona. He has magical powers and all that sort of thing. And seems pretty wise. Maybe as I begin to fit into the character interesting things may happen.
