I can dig that but that guy wasn't Floyd Mayweather.
Let's be honest, Floyd isn't unbeatable. It just needs somebody with an unwavering focus and gameplan with the ability to box. If Oscar kept up that jab and those little flurries that at least stopped Floyd's output for the whole fight who knows what would have happened.
Floyd adjusted and Oscar lost his balls. Cotto is one man who MIGHT be able to stick to that plan. Ultimately, I see him causing trouble but perhaps losing his stomach for the fight late on when Floyd has landed a festival of right hands. It'll be an exciting fight though - I can almost guarantee it.

Re: Mayweather Vs Cotto Predictions
Cotto always comes to fight....Floyd will have to earn a W on May 5th, that's for certain. I know Cotto is the underdog but I'm cheering for him nevertheless!

The best tool he's got is is jab, which is ramrod and well timed. His left hook is good but mayweather's philly shell puts a dampener these punches. in fact left hooks are liability against mayweather as he counters so well off of them.
So how does cotto have a good chance, other than a punchers chance?
1. Use the jab - De la Hoya had great success with his jab, Cotto used it well vs Mosley. The timing of the jab nullifies speed.
2. Land the hook often - work the body, work the arms, the shoulder, hips, everything. Miguel has a powerful punch, one powerful enough to break jaws, one powerful enough to stop a fighter with a shot to the shoulder. Working to the body takes the legs away, working on the guard takes the defense and speed away....after that Floyd may be downright normal if all goes to plan.
3. Make Floyd forget the right hand - Cotto can switch up and has big power in both hands...if he switches southpaw and can blast a right hook in and make contact then great, if he can lull Floyd into range and time a solid right cross from an orthodox stance even better...but Floyd must be more wary of the left hook than the right hand in order for Cotto to catch him offguard.
No doubt it's an uphill battle for Cotto, but he's a warrior, he has heart
Yeah, like i said cotto has a good jab, and the jab is key to any plan to beat mayweather.
But IMO Cotto trying to land left hooks is playing into mayweathers hands. The right side of mayweathers body and head is almost airtight, despite occasionally pulling back from hooks with his chin exposed. For the most part floyd only has to watch for the opponents jabs and right hands, and cotto's right hand isn't that fast. Cotto will eat enough right uppercuts and crosses to make him seriously think about throwing anymore left hooks.
Ok, i don't want to write cotto off totally, but if he wants to win he's going to have to have a better plan than just blasting mayweather with his power and trying to break his shoulder. I reckon he needs to pressure floyd into leading first or feint him into throwing a counter before he tries using the hook. then again you need good hand speed to make someone buy the feint, and i just don't think cotto's fast enough at this stage.

OK....so you just think from 1 to 12 this is a total shutout? I think Cotto matches up fairly well, he'll at least give it a solid go for 5 rounds before he starts slowing down however the fight is going....I would be shocked if Floyd got to him any earlier. Floyd could be making a big mistake by not having a catchweight, believing Cotto's best is past him, and not trusting that Cotto is a solid BOXER as well as power puncher. Cotto has been hit with a lot before and always fought on...Floyd will have to wear him down make him chase, and coounter him. Cotto has been stopped 2 times once vs a cheater with loaded wraps and second at a catchweight and sans trainer. Cotto still has Pedro Diaz, a well respected trainer who really helped him do a number on Margarito...you never can tell when a fighter can get a second wind in his career.
Just because Cotto doesn't attack the body as aggressively as before doesn't mean he lacks power. Power and timing are key for Cotto...he will be outsped and be fighting a guy with better stamina, but he can change all that with a few punches. If Cotto hurts Floyd like Mosley and Zab did there WILL be a knockdown and perhaps a knockout.
Nobody says he lacks power. What I'm saying is you can't call him a brutal body puncher when he no longer attacks the body

Uhh.... why would Cotto be worried about that?
Did he volunteer to do Floyd's upcoming jail time for him?

Re: Mayweather Vs Cotto Predictions
I think if Ortiz was somewhat succesful in taking PBF to the ropes and pinning him there it'll be a matter of what Cotto can land once he is there...
He would need to take advantage of those moments.
If PBF thinks he can go to the ropes and just let Cotto shoot he is making a big mistake IMO.
Cotto is the type of fighter that can finish you off if he has you pinned.
A huge Cotto fan but my prediction is PBF via decision.

Mick, need your opinion. Who's got the better skill set and punching power, between Vic Ortiz and Miguel Cotto?

Ortiz has the better skill set and more power. Cotto knows how to use his skills and power.

For my likings it's hands down Cotto...
I've seen his pro career from day 1 and I believe he is better than Ortiz in both depts.
He's been a brawler, a boxer, a counter puncher thru his career.
I believe he is more versatile and much more seasoned then Ortiz.
The last opponent Ortiz stopped was Harris in 2010.
Cotto on the other hand keeps getting TKO's. In the last 3/4 yrs I can only think of SSM & Clottey going the distance with him.
Cotto beats Ortiz 10 out of 10 times.
-
Re: Mayweather Vs Cotto Predictions
Cotto at 140 was much better, tougher and just more dynamic than Victor Ortiz..
H2H though, Ortiz has the style to scare the shit outa Cotto.. That quick fisted orthodox turned southpaw style of ORtiz could catch and put Cotto on queerstreet, just as Chop Chop did way back.. Had him doing the Puerto Rican salsa dance and everthing.
Cotto is better..
-
Re: Mayweather Vs Cotto Predictions
cotto stopped victoriano sosa, chopx2 corley and zab judah while PBF went the distance with all 3, come to think of it if Cotto's facial structure could hold up he might just have a puncher'schance:-\

I just saw the Mosley vs Cotto fight and Cotto got hit alot in that fight but after the interview he didn't have a scratch on his face. Anyone know why now he's been cutting up so easily? It doesn't make sense to me, maybe cuz he was younger but I feel there would be other things that have to do with it.

Bro, the beating he took from Cheato's loaded gloves pretty made a permanent scar tissue of Cotto's face.

Does Cotto fight well on the inside? I don't expect him to be as good as Tony or Holyfield but I'm just curious if he knows how to get there and stay there while being effective.

Cotto should be stronger inside but must watch out for the elbows and uppercuts from Floyd. Cotto needs to work the angles and fight at a high tempo, setting up traps for Floyd to fall into.
-
Re: Mayweather Vs Cotto Predictions
Well the closer the range between the two, the less time Mayweather will have to counter and pick off shots and of course this works vice versa as well. I like this fight to be honest because Cotto is really good and he's mentally in a solid place.
It will be a good match because I can't really tell with certainty who'll win. Cotto CAN win based off technique and Mayweather can win with his pop. Although chances are Cotto will be more reliant on power and Mayweather on craft.

Cotto fought a guy with cement blocks on his knuckles when gave up. Floyd has brittle hands. Common sense dictates that you are more likely wrong with your theory there homie.
I don't see Floyd knocking out Cotto, contrary to popular belief, Mayweather is not a big puncher.
Contrary to popular belief? Nobody ever said floyd is a big puncher but one doesnt need to be a big puncher to score KOs..
Floyd's power comes from speed, timing, precision and punch placement which is more than enough to create knockouts.
punching power comes in many forms..
Lmfao! Like you've ever punched someone in your life. :p
Floyd's power comes from when his opponent choose to stop fighting and not look at him . Also known as "bitch ass sucker punch".
PSL, when Uncle Arum decides to sacrifice his little boy to Floyd I will sig bet you that Floyd will knock out Manny Pacquiao.
