Yea because Bowe dumped his belt in the trash bin! Lewis was eager to fight him..
Dude, Leonard is a natural WW and knocking on him for not facing McCallum ludacrious..
Jones was all willing to face Darius as long as the fight took place in the US and rightfully so.. He was the king of the jungle at the time so why should he travel anywhere else?? Darius could have came to America he wanted but he didnt..
BUllshit ! whether or not Leonard waited for Hagler to get old, he fought the man without any tuneup after coming back from years of layoff.. How many other fighters have done that??
You are reaching...

But none of those fights that didnt happen were as big of a deal. None of them left a whole era of boxing with a huge question mark.
There wasnt two decisive ATG fighters above the rest that just didnt fight.
A legacy isnt just about who you fought and what your record is but how you did things. Its not just about who can beat who but the fights they put on.
If Pac and Floyd would have fought 3 times and Floyd lost all 3, he goes down greater than what he would have imo because of the memory he left on boxing and the guts he showed.
Re: Pacquiao calls Mayweather coward for refusing to fight
Not reaching for anything,..everything stated above is fact...
I`m not saying that there aren`t excuses or reasons that the fight`s did not happen,...simply that they just did not happen.....For whatever reason...Is Roy Jones legacy tarnished in your mind,...because he never fought Dariusz..?...Mayweather does not fear Pac....He may be reluctant or even fearful to face A Pac that has Juiced up to the teeth....and for that I cant blame him...

I dont blame him either honestly. But as far as legacy goes, I think it will be tarnished for both of them. No one will ever think about Floyd without thinking about Pac and vice versa. And when they think about either one all they can say is what if.
I think if they start fighting this year they can save it, legacy wise.

The same could be said about many fighters.
But there isnt a fighter in Marciano's time that could claim greatest of his era in which he supposedly ducked. We dont look back and say well he didnt fight _____. And hurt the sport bad.
If they dont fight we at least know Floyd himself said he doesnt want to fight him because he is concerned for his health. No problem there but knowing this,
does Floyd deserve to be put on top of the mountain with the Ali's who sacrificed everything to beat everyone so they could be claimed as the greatest?
Not in my opinion but to each his own.
And look at ALI now...
If that's what it takes to be the greatest who would want to?
Re: Pacquiao calls Mayweather coward for refusing to fight
Well fair enough,..but neither fighter feels that their legacy will suffer if the fight does not happen...HOF carears are not decided on One fight that never happenned, regardless of how bad we as fight fans may want it to happen...For every person who will say Mayweather never fought Pac,another person will say Pac never fought Mayweather...and on and on we go...Those who look to discredit Mayweathers greatness will do so regardless if he beats Pac or not,or even when he would have beat him...EVERY FIGHTER that has ever reached Greatness has his detractors,...includeing the Great Ali.....

Ali would.
Thats why he is generally considered to be the greatest (not saying he is but in general). He wanted it that bad. Not only that he had the skill.
Even those who have this combination arent usually lucky to come out on top especially in the shark pit Ali was in, which makes Ali even greater imo.

The huge question mark being left on this era of boxing will be whether Pac was juicing during his unbelievable reign.
And you're right, legacy is a question of how you do things and if its steroids that made Pac the great fighter of the era then he's simply not the best and his legacy will suffer.
If it comes down to Floyd or Pac being the greatest of this era and Floyd decides not to fight Pac because Pac has had shady, cheating coaches and refused drug testing for years then Floyd is the one showing that he has the guts to do the right thing and that should be the memory true boxing fans are left with. The right thing for his health as well as the sport.
Also, Floyd is helping to break new ground within the sport. He's taking the power away from the greedy and corrupt promoters who lie, cheat and steal from their fighters without recourse; and then kick them to the curb when they start losing. Floyd is also leading the charge on PED and steroid abuse. He refused a 100million dollar fight because he suspected Pac was a cheat and Pac wasn't willing to be tested to disprove it. That on top of retiring undefeated and rich as fuck will be Floyd's legacy.

All what you just said plus the fact that fans waited 4-5+ years for a fight that never happened will be both their legacies.
Literally, at least 5 years now there has been no other fight the world wants to see. I dont think anything like this has ever happened in boxing.
This is gonna put its mark on boxing, their legacies and this era of boxing.

You think that Ali is happy to be in the terrible condition he's in?
You think that had he know that he'd and up as helpless and immobile as he is today that he wouldn't have changed the way he chose to fight?
Are you stubborn or stupid or both?

Im pretty sure hes said many times he wouldnt change a thing and wishes he could do it all over.
I wish I had the courage, skill, heart and toughness of Ali.
Ali was put on earth to do be the baddest man on the planet and thats what he did. He would do it again.
Considering what he did inside the ring and outside the ring, I would say its a safe bet he has no regrets.
Re: Pacquiao calls Mayweather coward for refusing to fight
Right on Ruthless,...We dont even know how to define..."Tarnished"..I mean if you are A Hall of Fame Multi World Titlist...With the respect of your peers, and A warehouse full of Money...What does tarnished mean...?...Everybody wants to see the fight, even at this point,...myself included,...but I personally will not hold it against either fighter`s legacy if it does not happen...Both have kicked FAR too much ass to be defined by One fight...Esp...Mayweather..

I cant disagree with this.
Fighters like Floyd and Pac have egos, egos clash and shit happens.
But just the way this whole thing went down with fans wanting this fight so bad for so long, its gonna leave its mark on the sport and their legacies.

I don't believe it. He wouldn't change a thing because he can't change a thing. He's accepted it. ..but had he been able to see himself now, right now, 2014 Ali: unable to speak or do much of anything, I'm sure he would have done certain things differently.

I would say he would take back the Holmes and the Berbick fight but thats about it.
