Yeah I know what you mean. I think Dirrell before the injury takes out Ward and Bute. Still think he won the Froch fight but thats a different story.
He definitely won the Froch fight. Dirrell has all kinds of skill, but he's been painted as a head-case. I don't know if that's fair or not, but I definitely see why people feel that way. I know that I view him as being mentally weak, even as I realize it's probably totally unjustified.
I'm a big Dirrell fan if you haven't noticed. It is hard being a fan. I can't really say that he's weak because I don't know the severity of the injury but I do feel that he did a little bit of acting and that he didn't want to fight Ward who is a good friend. It seems that way.

Is he done as a fighter? I just checked boxrec and he doesn't even have anything scheduled.
I wonder if there's something in his Showtime contract that prohibits him from fighting until the Super 6 is over.
Re: Lucian Bute vs. Glen Johnson fight/discussion thread
I'm not sure. I remember hearing about him wanting to get back in the ring, that was a few months back, but haven't heard anything else. His brother seems to be taking the spot light now.
Re: Lucian Bute vs. Glen Johnson fight/discussion thread
This fight was disappointing, but then it figured to be. Johnson needs to go back to fighting on ESPN FNF and forget about fighting the big boys, he's just not competitive. Bute needs to fight one of the other top Super-mids, Froch, Kessler, Ward, et al, enough with the 'cans.

Bute seemsed a class above the other guys JOhnson has faced. Even against Dawson, Tarver, Froch, etc..., he has been in the fights and they were very competitive and close. This wasn't. Johnson finally got old, Bute was better than the other guys, or most likely, it was a combination of the two.
Re: Lucian Bute vs. Glen Johnson fight/discussion thread
Bute will fight the super six guys when its over and done with, cant knock the guy for not fighting them, and when he does he will beat all of them , he was on cruise control against Johnson, i think this guy is top top draw cant wait till he fights Ward, Froch , kessler.
Re: Lucian Bute vs. Glen Johnson fight/discussion thread
Johnson didnt get old over night. He looked far worse against Froch in the last few rounds. Bute was very hesitant to mix it up against a man that wasnt really fighting back, imagine how scared hed be if Froch was swinging at him! From what I saw last night, all Bute has is the to the body.
Duke McKenzie was doing my head in, hes like Bunce the way he overreacts to stuff. Bute would miss a combination and hed say Bute was ally dominating and piling the pressure on, when in fact it was Johnson whos punches has landed ( what there were of them).
We saw Bute struggle to figure out how to get through to Johnson, Froch hurt Glen a few times. I think Glen was intimidated by Butes speed and did cover a bit more but Bute didnt try to open him up at all! It wasnt a fantastic display by any means

Maybe we watched different fights. I saw Bute win every single round. I saw a fight that wasn't even remotely close. When I saw Johnson face Froch, Johnson was close the whole night. When you look at the two performances, Bute's easily was much, much better. :rolleyes3:

Dirrell has been in the gym and from what I gather is training for a tune-up fight in the foreseeable future. He was brought in the George Groves camp for Groves' preparation for DeGale and tweeted a black eye that Groves gave him. He said Groves was very good too.

There is no point in carrying on. Bute looked decent, but I pick half the super six guys to beat him.
Put it in perspective though. Compare Bute's performance against Johnson with Froch's just last fight.
Re: Lucian Bute vs. Glen Johnson fight/discussion thread
What I mean is Johnson did nothing. Against Froch, he did and paid for it. He was taking a beating compared to what anyone else including Bute has done to him since Hopkins. The Green fight maybe gave him a bit more confidence in his ability at this stage than he should have had, especially at this weight and the realisation hit in the Froch fight and he fought alot more conservatively because of it from the get go in this fight. I saw that Bute is too hesitant and he will be a lot more hesitant when he again ups the level of competition. Like they said last night, Johnson is the best fighter he has come across as yet and I think much like Dawson against Pascal, when he faces someone who will fight back and hit and hurt him and cou ter his speed, it will be a shock to the system.

Are you serious? :nono: Johnson did nothing as you put it because he was afraid to open up and Bute kept Johnson at his range the whole night. It's ridiculous not to give him credit right now. He completed dominated Glen Johnson. Glen Johnson fought well in his last two fights and Glen had no answer for Bute. There were quite a few posters on this board who picked Johnson to beat Bute. When Bute fights Froch next, which is my bet, you and I are sigbetting my friend.

The difference here is that Johnson is so much older still and more so as compared with his LHW days. He seems weak and ineffective at SMW.
Bute handpicked him and looked decent doing so, but I wouldn't go overboard on the win.
Re: Lucian Bute vs. Glen Johnson fight/discussion thread
Did you guys watch the post fight interview ?
Glen Johnson thought HE WON !!!!

Froch fought him a few months ago and Johnson didn't look old there. One judge had that fight a draw. How did Bute handpick him? He offered a fight to Kessler and Pavlik who turned down the offers. Johnson finished third in the Super Six. He knocked Allan Green out at 168 and as i mentioned he took Froch to a close fight. The two ahead of him are fighting in December. Who else would you have preferred him fight?
