Weight and how "big" a guy is is hard to tell from just where they start, Oscar started between 130 and 135 but he's obviously a bigger framed guy than say Chop Corley who started at 140. Even though its an amazing accomplishment that Pacquaio came from 112 to 147 it doesn't mean he's small now, he was a solid 135, probably is a solid 140 pounder and seemed to have some trouble making 130 towards the end.
Floyd I thought looked real solid towards the end of his 140 run and looks like a decently solid welter now. Obviously wouldn't be considered a big strong welter compared to some guys. Was he "bigger" than Sharmba Mitchell or Zab or even Ricky? I don't know, he didn't look smaller or physically at a disadvantage. I think he could look pretty strong against JMM.
Still not sure if I've answered the question.
one look at Floyd and it's easy to see he's no natural welterweight, if anything i'd say he's a natural Lightweight, jr.welter at most
you out done yourself again, so if floyd is a natural lightweight or jr. welterweight then why not fight jmm at those division instead?
Hey was pac avoiding the natural featherweight at the time he fought bantamweight Larios? did he fight Rafeal Marquez instead of Juan Manuel Marquez, or Isreal Vazquez instead of Eric Morales?

so you hatin on delahoya too, he did it against hopkins:rolleyes:
kinda unfair pac risking his
p4p status for nothing vs a much larger man. i hope Pac gets his 7th div world title and keep that record for at least 100 years;D
you know that isn't real don't you? It's just made up by boxing hacks and certain fans? If Cotto wins he doesn't become the p4p king.

This will be an historic event with Manny fighting to be the first seven weight world champion in the history of boxing.
Of course a few whiners will moan and argue that Cotto should be stripped and that the well known and respected Antonin Decaire take on Rafal Jackiewicz for the vacant strap but for those of us unburdened by cares of technical rulings regarding fighters weighing two pounds under the max limit we can enjoy a proper good tearup.
except there is no weight class with a limit of 145 :detective: so it's total BS.

Good so you agree that Cotto can come in at 147.
You guys bitching and moaning about the weight and split can save it. No one forced Cotto to take the fight. He has a team of negotiators who settled on those terms with the Paquiao camp. If Cotto and his team are satisfied with the terms, then there's no reason anyone else should care. 145 is a welterweight fight by definition, period. It's perfectly legitimate for the belt to be at stake and Cotto doesn't have a problem with it.
Told you himself did he?

Thats funny because any weight between 141 and 147 IS welterweight. 147 is the Welterweight "limit" its not the weight that makes you a weltweweight otherwise if any fighter came into a fight weighing 146 they wouldn't say "he is in great shape" they'd say "go gain a pound to make this official"
There is just a contracted weight for 145 which is still welterweight. 145 is above 140 and beneath 148 so this fight is at welterweight...
Not that I agree with this catchweight stuff but I thought that'd be worth pointint out

We're all aware of that.
Yes ww has a range but it has the official limit at 147. Therefore by altering those parameters to say the limit is now 145 it isn't a true ww fight.
I think they're hoping what happened to DLH will happen to Cotto.

4. Manny even wanted the fight a month earlier, which would not have given Cotto the proper time to heal his cut.
Manny has proven a lot in boxing and deservedly so, but I am beginning to hate his attitude and opinion of himself and his nerve. I hope (and believe) that all of this will motivate Cotto to put a beat down on Manny.
All I have to say is.. Cotto could just say, "NO, I don't want the fight. it's not fair." And Manny could find another fight. Why is Cotto is such a rush to fight the little guy anyway?
I don't like the belt thing with the catchweight either.. but seriously. No one can make you fight.
Cotto has till November to get ready. His cut will not be keeping him from fighting/training.
Re: Cotto's welterweight belt is on the line!!!
it will affect your ability to spar.

was Jones Jr a natural Heavyweight? no, but look what happened to him when he killed himself to go back down to 175
Pacquiao is no natural jr.welterweight, but what do you think would happen to him if he jumped back down to 130 or 126 to fight the likes of Soto, Linares, or any other top fighter in those two divisions, he'd probably lose, and not cause he isn't better than them, but he's been away from those weight classes for so long
and yea your second bit was just a fuckin joke

Re: Cotto's welterweight belt is on the line!!!
Why do we have to ruin this epic fight because of the 2 pounds weigh-in reduction.
I thought this is a David and Goliath fight. Goliath is asked to shed to pounds and all his hordes are reacting this is unfair.
Well, anyway we know what happened at the end of the story.
Re: Cotto's welterweight belt is on the line!!!
Good for Cotto, he's sticking to his guns and telling Manny that if he wants the belt, he has to fight him at 147, and if the WBO wants to strip him of the belt for not putting it on the line at 145, he saying go ahead.
Cotto: "Hey Freddie, I am Not De La Hoya or Hatton" - Boxing News
Re: Cotto's welterweight belt is on the line!!!
Why does the WBO belt make any difference one way or another in this case?? Cotto won it vacant against Michael Jennings... It's worthless. I get that in theory in a catchweight fight the belt shouldn't be on the line, because Cotto isn't allowed to weigh in at the welterweight limit, that's the issue here and it's pretty cut and dry. But as far as signifigance goes ,whether this fight is for the WBO title or not means absolutely squat, Cotto should just throw it out. If he loses to Manny I doubt still being the WBO paper champion at welterweight will be much to find solace in.
Re: Cotto's welterweight belt is on the line!!!
I thought PAC and Cotto had contracts signed already?
Why are they still negotiating?
