Wlad....... please retire for the good of boxing.
Esteemed Mr. Klitschko:
I give up. For years I've wanted to see someone rise from the ranks and test your chin and your mettle. For years I've wanted to see someone provide that epic fight I've been desperate for in the heavyweight ranks. You know..... like Ali-Frazier, Lennox-Vitali, Tyson-Douglas. Admittedly, I don't like your style of boxing. But also admittedly, you've been very effective at it. It's not your fault most boxers who enter the ring with you do so with 5 pounds of shit in their trunks, and proceed to put on a shameful exhibition of survival. And I don't blame you for keeping your distance, being content with doing just enough to win the fight. After all, that's what it's all about, right? I was a hater back when you couldn't protect your fragile chin, and got knocked out on several occasions. But we all have a right to learn, right? The late Emanuel Stewart taught you well. He taught you how to use your reach, your height, and your opponents' fear.... and keep that chin safe. Doesn't make for very exciting boxing... but then again you've amassed a great record since then. Nowadays... us former heavyweight divisions fans are treated to nothing but an endless parade of bums, pretenders, has-beens..... all clamoring for a shot at you, but doing nothing to earn such a shot. Because of that, you're reduced to fighting the Francesco Pianeta's of the world. Even going through the scrap heap twice, like with Tony Thompson.
I used to want someone to challenge you. To give as well as take. Maybe even knock you down. Just to make you get up and show an additional dimension to your game. A fight that would have everyone buzzing and saying..... "DAMN.... did you see that fight?!?" (And no.... Samuel Peter did not provide that epic fight..... TWICE). I've been practically begging for that fight. And some of these other guys talk a lot before the fight (ie: David Haye). Then they go out there and stink up the joint. Sure, I'm mad at you too. He talked so much shit, you should've made it your business to go out and try to knock him out. But you didn't. You fought Sultan Ibragimov and almost made me quit watching boxing altogether. With all due respect, Wlad..... what a SHIT fight. All that pawing for 12 rounds. 12 rounds!!!
BUT... I've changed my mind, Wlad. You're 37 now. You've amassed a great record. Now I want you to retire. Only that way will we be able to turn our eyes to the riff-raff out there that masquerades as a heavyweight division. Hell... if there's nothing else to watch, we can watch them fight themselves, right? Someone's got to emerge champion of something.
Thanks,
A boxing fan
Dear Boxing Fan:
I appreciate your concern. But I'd rather fight on for a few more years and accumulate a few more scalps under my belt. I paid my dues early on, and now I deserve the chance to blow away a few more nondescript bums before calling it a career.
Yours truly,
Wlad Klitschko
(Just thought I'd add that as a preemptive strike to the "Dear TitoFan go fuck yourself", obligatory response.) ;D
Re: Wlad....... please retire for the good of boxing.
Wladimir Klitschko's fights are to me what the superbowl is for an American NFL fan - the biggest events in sports.
Some people don't like him because he's not from the same country they are. Others don't like him because he's not of the same race they are or of the race they find attractive.
I'm able to rise above such stupidity and ignorance. I have favorite boxers from countries all over the world and of all different races.
Re: Wlad....... please retire for the good of boxing.
You know SRL and SRR fought a lot bums too. Also if I may, why do you think his retirement would make the division more exciting? The challengers would still show up under conditioned and severely lacking skill sets required.
I rather see RJJ retire for good over Wlad.

I agree with this post in part, my friend. There were many people who thought that Floyd Mayweather fights weren't fun either because of his defense-first style of boxing, even if it is effective. So, styles make fights to a certain extent.
Re: Wlad....... please retire for the good of boxing.
@TitoFan - I'm actually genuinely looking forward to Povetkin-Wladimir in August 2013. I agree, however, after beating Povetkin, who else really is there? I also wouldn't mind seeing Wladimir beat Arreola, Fury and Solis, but they are like Floyd fighting Guerrero and the other GB junior welterweights that have been rumored in the running for a fight with him, there's just no chance they win.

The biggest events in sports? ;D Why presume that people don't like him because he is not from the same country as they are. You are tarring a lot of decent boxing fans there with one huge brush. Your own comments are both stupid and ignorant.

Purlease

Yes I will gladly tell you to go fuck yourself @TitoFan
Why hate on Wlad? He does the right thing all the way around the sport. He fights often, he wins usually by KO/TKO, he shows up IN SHAPE, he fights using his brains as well as his brawn. It's not his fault fighters come to challenge him out of shape, not Wlad's fault they give up before the fight, not Wlad's fault the challengers aren't consistent in their fights leading up to a title shot, not Wlad's fault nobody can deal with his style.
If you're going to hate on someone hate on the contenders and don't be a dumbass

I liked your comment, but here's where we differ. I think Wlad DOES use all the strengths he has vs his opponents. Which is why people complain about him...he's tall and doesn't give up his height. He's got long arms and doesn't give up his reach. He's strong and heavy and he uses his body to wear down an opponent and he's got great footwork and he moves well cutting down the ring or evading an attack.
Re: Wlad....... please retire for the good of boxing.
Wlad is a great HW champ.

True.
But another type of fighter with those same attributes would probably attack more or risk more to achieve a knockout.
Thats prob where the masses have an issue with Wlad and possibly the fact that his older brother fights alittle differently doesnt help compress those "killer instinct" views.
Imho i neither like or dislike wlad style anymore as it simply like paint and it gets the job done.
I thought david haye might have had the best chance by unleashing one of those hayemakers which i believe would have finished the fight but to be honest lets look at why he couldnt do that. There are two fighters in the ring and Wlad, no matter how boring we may think he is nulified hayes workrate and like hopkins used his style to dictate the fight.
It would be a very boring world if everyone was the same, so rather than waiting for Wlad to change his style just accept it and hope that a better opponent comes along that is in just as good condition as the current champ is.
@imp - but, Wladimir has a 80% KO ratio, compare that to the other dominant fighters of this era: Floyd - 60%, Martinez - 52%, Marquez - 64%, Pacquiao - 62%, and when has Hopkins knocked out anyone recently?
Game is to hit and not be hit, right? Wladimir does that well. It's unfair to say that he is wrong for it, but other fighters aren't. Isn't it?

You can't really compare a Heavyweight KO ratio the lower weight classes

Why not? There are power punchers at other weight classes too. Wlad just knows how to punch and he knows how to box, he's a special talent no matter what any of his critics say.

I'm not hating on Wlad, @El Kabong . But you're so GODDAM defensive you can't see the forest for the trees. I'm actually hating on the rest of the division. But NO-O-O-O-O-O-O....... you can't see that because if I don't kneel at the Wlad memorial, then I'm hating on him. I'm tired of your defensive bullshit.
I don't like his style of winning and that is my God-given right.
So if that doesn't sit well with you........ then YOU can go fuck yourself.
