Arum Says Pavlik Vs Paul Williams "Seems" Like Done Deal For 9/27
Kelly Pavlik vs. Paul Williams - Deal Reached For 9/27? - Boxing News
I would commend Williams for courage if he takes such a fight going straight from WW but he's going to get himself hurt.

Re: Arum Says Pavlik Vs Paul Williams "Seems" Like Done Deal For 9/27
what a silly fight.
Pavlik will knock him out.

Actually I see it a bit differently. Southpaw + a Million punches could spell Kelly getting out hustled.

It's a risky decision, but give Williams credit for having the guts to take on the challenge, if the fight does indeed happen.

Brutal. I'm beginning to miss Jermaine Taylor, at least when he cherry-picked gimme opponents he only dipped one weight class below his.

True, but I'd rather see Pavlik fight a big-name welter than a no-name middleweight. I'd rather see Paul Williams get a shot than another Gary Lockett.

There has to be someone in the top 15 MW's who is more deserving of this fight. I know they want a gimme to set up Pavlik-Abraham (at least I hope that's what they're doing), but Pavlik just had a gimme fight in Lockett. Williams has never ever fought at LMW, let alone MW, and he's done nothing to deserve a shot at Pavlik. The fight has little credibility and no competitive aspect to it, Pavlik will steamroll Williams.
Jermaine Taylor was raked over the coals when he fought Ouma and Spinks, and that was after a series of fights against much better opposition than Pavlik has faced, I hope Pavlik gets that same treatment.

Middleweight is not a deep division right now. Besides Abraham, name a middlweight who would create the buzz that a Williams fight will create.

Credit to williams for taking the fight if he does and shame on Pavlik if he does.;D
I just don't see why Pavlik would take a fight like this. It's a lose lose situation for him.

Williams is a freakishly big welterweight who rehydrates up into the mid-160s for his fights. He's bigger than Spinks or Ouma and is a more dangerous opponent.
I think Pavlik knocks out Williams, but I give Williams a better chance than I gave either Ouma or Spinks.
-
Re: Arum Says Pavlik Vs Paul Williams "Seems" Like Done Deal For 9/27
;D
Williams may well be a big freak but still.. this is a "gimme" 2 for Pavlik.

Re: Arum Says Pavlik Vs Paul Williams "Seems" Like Done Deal For 9/27
Paul's first dozen fights were at Jr Middleweight and Middleweight.
He moved down in weight to fight the smaller guys.

Link?
What about Strum!!
Arum knows he steps Pavlik up he loses and in a bad way.
I hate warrren but he is 100% right that Arum knows this big bum is so limited he would never fight anyone legit at 168lbs and get ultra bum after the Taylor re-match.
Imagine if Mayweather did this imagine the crap he would get i think this big bum is worse.
-
Re: Arum Says Pavlik Vs Paul Williams "Seems" Like Done Deal For 9/27
Stupid fight. Williams will get smoked by a big middleweight puncher like Pavlik. Why the hell is Pavlik wanting to fight a welterweight when he can probably beat anyone in the world at 168? I guess its 2 good names and there will be some money there, but this is a silly fight to me.
-
Re: Arum Says Pavlik Vs Paul Williams "Seems" Like Done Deal For 9/27
Why dont Arum put old 1,2 big bum in with a legit ranked 168lb fighter, both Arum and 1,2 have stated that if they dont clear 160lb out they will move to SMW in a year.
A guy that would be naturally bigger than 95% of everyone at 175lb is fighting a guy 1-1 in his last two fights at 147lbs! what a crock!
-
Re: Arum Says Pavlik Vs Paul Williams "Seems" Like Done Deal For 9/27
It's a decent name, and considering Pavlik is living up to the promise of being an active champion we should give him the benefit of the doubt, especially if they really do have Abraham lined up before christmas as well, then he'd have fought his two biggest rivals at the weight within 12 months, thrown in together with a good welterweight and a,.........um........(well there is no defence for the Lockett fight, but he could have fought no one and fight every 6 months like most champions do.)

Not that I necessarily disbelieve him, but this is according to Bob Arum, the same Bob Arum famous for the quote, "Yesterday when I spoke to you I was lying, today I am telling the truth..."
A few weeks ago he was saying the same thing about Williams as well, apparently Williams was demanding 2.5M...
Winky himself has gone on record saying he's not pricing himself out, that he's willing to fight Pavlik in his backyard for a relatively small amount of money.

Pavlik is not a bum. His promoter might be scheduling relatively easy fights for him in an attempt to raise his profile, but he's not a bum. I'd pick him against almost anyone between 160-175.

Re: Arum Says Pavlik Vs Paul Williams "Seems" Like Done Deal For 9/27
To me this fight is a joke. Pavlik needs to fight someone like Winky or Abraham. I know winky priced himself out and Abraham has to fight his mandatory next but come on a middle wieght fighting a welter just a joke.

Re: Arum Says Pavlik Vs Paul Williams "Seems" Like Done Deal For 9/27
To tell the truth, this may not be as bad of a match-up as some are thinking. Look at Paul Williams- he does not belong at WW. I thought the primary reason for him losing to Quintana was being too weight drained going into that fight. He must have been on his diet to a T to come back and dominate like he did. That being said, if this fight happens you will never see Williams at WW again. I'm surprised he's leapfrogging JMW but there aren't any big names there he could get a match with (Oscar probably wants no part) but he was probably going to wind up a MW at some point in his career. If you look at their stats they match up pretty closely. Kelly is 1.5 inches taller, but Paul's arms are 7 inches longer. Williams only has one more fight, so experience-wise they are the same. I think Kelly wins in the long run simply because his chin is more tested. Paul hasn't been tested the same. Who knows, maybe Williams has an even sturdier chin and his power will carry up 2 divisions. He may be able to put the finishing touch on that Jermain Taylor couldn't.
-
Re: Arum Says Pavlik Vs Paul Williams "Seems" Like Done Deal For 9/27
Man this is bullshit. You Pavlik fans know it. Winky just demands whatever the best middleweight in the world should be compensated for, a decent amount to take on a tough, risky opponent. Yes, I am sure that Winky wanted more money than Gary Lockett did. That probably means he is pricing himself out.
I love Arum. He is a very smart guy.

I agree. The odd thing is that I think Pavlik would have an excellent chance to taking Winky apart and maybe even stopping him. I'm a huge Winky fan, but his age, combined with his recent lack of movement and the weight fluctuations seem to indicate that he is there for the taking against a very active power-puncher like Pavlik.
I'm a huge Winky fan and I'd definitely be cheering for him vs. Pavlik, but it's an uphill struggle for Winky IMO. I imagine the accolades would pour in if Pavlik stopped Winky or beat him convincingly.
-
Re: Arum Says Pavlik Vs Paul Williams "Seems" Like Done Deal For 9/27
What is really bugging me is Arum seems to be changing the opponent every damn week. He knows Pavlik is not PPV material so I have a feeling he is trying to nickel and dime his opponents so he does not lose his ass financially. He has to look at Pavlik as long term. He just might have to lose some money fighting Winky, to improve Pavlik's exposure to make Pavlik more marketable down the road.

I wouldn't want to jeopardize the Abraham match at this point - Winky's too dangerous. If Pavlik gets past Abraham - which I don't think is a given - then Winky should be the next guy in line.
I'm not crazy about the Williams matchup, either, but at least Pavlik's staying busy til the next big fight.

Because I'm a huge boxing fan I'd watch Klitschko fight a one-armed midget, but that doesn't mean the outcome wouldn't be a foregone conclusion.

I was being sarcastic, I though it was pretty obvious. However, I sat through Briggs - Lyakhovich, so it should be apparent that I will watch anything boxing related.

Man that is rough. I was so excited for SL and he put this bullshit out there. I could not believe he was so stupid in the 12 round.
