Pavlik vs Hopkins seriously being talked about for Oct 18th
In the paid member section of MaxBoxing.com, Steve Kim just posted that there is serious talks going on for a PPV fight between Pavlik & Hopkins on October 18th.
I don't want to see this fight, let alone on PPV! :furious2:
That will be 4 PPV fights in just over a months time! :furious2:
Casamayor vs Marquez - Sept 13th
Calzaghe vs Jones - Sept 20th
Mosley vs Mayorga - October 11th
and now
Pavlik vs Old Bopkins on October 18th
This is ridiculous, what the hell is HBO thinking!!!! :angryxo4:
-
Re: Pavlik vs Hopkins seriously being talked about for Oct 18th
Yeah I posted it in the Pavlik/Williams thread.
This is all becoming a circus. What is this, the 6th opponent mentioned? This is all becoming a joke and Bob should work harder on landing an opponent than running around naming potential ones.
first Rubio, then Calzaghe, then Winky, then Mora, Then Williams, then back to Winky, back to Williams, and now Hopkins.
It's making me dizzy.
-
Re: Pavlik vs Hopkins seriously being talked about for Oct 18th
Apparently its going to take Bernard getting decisively beaten for him to stop going. If that.
The problem is he could probably make this one ugly too. Just a tough guy to really beat decisively.
-
Re: Pavlik vs Hopkins seriously being talked about for Oct 18th
I would rather see Pavlik vs. Abraham than any of the other fights listed. Then after Calzaghe/Jones look into Pavlik/Calzaghe.
-
Re: Pavlik vs Hopkins seriously being talked about for Oct 18th
Pavlik vs Hopkins is a pretty good match-up, prefer to see Hopkins rather than Paul Williams. Williams is a Welterweight and jumping straight up is too much.
Abraham is the main fight out there for Pavlik right now at Middleweight.
-
Re: Pavlik vs Hopkins seriously being talked about for Oct 18th
Is it going to be Catch weight, or Hopkins moving down or Pavlik moving up? Either way Hopkins loses my Tko.

The Jones and Mayorga fights I'm not wasting money on anyways. I am definately buying Casa/Marquez, and would be willing to do the same for a Pav/Hop fight.
Interesting matchup; but like Ouma said it could be ugly and no one is going to look good against Hopkins. Plus if Pav wins then we get to listen to Enzo saying Pavlik only won because Joe softened him up or some sh#t.
I really would rather see Pav fight Hop than Williams or Rubio; and am just looking forward to the day Abraham/Pavlik is signed. And when is Sturms name going to get thrown into the MW mix? Pavlik should go over to Germany and beat the sh#t out of Sturm.

Re: Pavlik vs Hopkins seriously being talked about for Oct 18th
Can't wait to see the build-up to a Pav/Hop fight. Will Hopkins tell everyone: "I'll never let another white boy beat me";D

Probably? I don't think theres a chance in hell we wouldn't be seeing Hopkins classic grin turn to scowl when the scorecards are read.

Re: Pavlik vs Hopkins seriously being talked about for Oct 18th
I think Hopkins showed enough in his last 3 fights he has nothing to be afraid of.
arum want a ppv bout Abrahams is fighting, calzaghe is out, williams was a joke hes beat Taylor it dont leave too many tbh.
Kessler at 168 would be a monster.

Re: Pavlik vs Hopkins seriously being talked about for Oct 18th
Like I posted in another thread, if Pavlik takes this fight then I will lose all respect for him, its plain fukin garbage:mad:
Pavlik should be fighting Abraham to lock down the MW division, and people were pissed at Mayweather for doing this kind of thing:rolleyes:
-
Re: Pavlik vs Hopkins seriously being talked about for Oct 18th
I wouldn't mind seeing it...but no way in hell i would pay for it. I guess he'll be puttin a lid on all the white boy stuff this time. Don't think pavlik would play into all the mind games.

No doubt about a fight with Abraham; but doesn't Arthur have to fight a mandatory 1st? Kelly has to do something in between; and personally I'd rather see him fight Hopkins than a Williams..... Actually Wright would be the one I would want to see before an Arthur showdown, but who really thinks that will happen?

To be fair I dont think anyone wants to fight HOpkins, don't see why Pavlik would either. If it happens, it'll be because it makes the most financial sense for the promoters and Pavlik will have to go along with it.

Wright needs a warm up fight before he goes near Kelly. The ring rust at his age will affect him.

Wow.... I have to say... I don't get this at all.
It's "garbage" for Pavlik to fight an opponent who is one of the most accomplished middleweight champs in history, still one of the top 10 PFP fighters in the sport, and who just had a very competitive fight against a guy (Calzaghe) who some think is the #1 PFP fighter in the sport? That's garbage?
-
Re: Pavlik vs Hopkins seriously being talked about for Oct 18th
We all want to see Pavlik fight Abraham, but that won't take place until 2009, because of Abrahams mandatory against Raul Marquez.
Now, Steve Kim just posted that Pavlik vs Hopkins may take the October 11th spot as a PPV, and that Mosley vs Mayorga will take the September 27th date as a regular HBO fight.
-
Re: Pavlik vs Hopkins seriously being talked about for Oct 18th
Pavlik-Abraham isn't happening next no matter what Kelly does. Abraham's already supposedly fighting Raul Marquez.

I am a looong time Hopkins fan but I agree some here. The fight to be made Is Pavlik Vs. Abraham....period!Hopkins looked his age the last half vs. Calzaghe and Pavlik also brings massive Pressure behind solid jab and much more power. No,Im not calling it a blowout or even guarenteed "W" for Pavlik,Hopkins is still annoyingly viable but yet another...."Why" fight ala Mosley/Mayorga.Hey,I'll take Hopkins rather than Williams though.

He proved beyond a shadow of a doubt 3 years ago that he cant hang with young athletic fighter in his prime... So tell me the relevance of this fight again?

I'm a huge fan of Hopkins but really i would just like him to retire.

The relevance of this fight is that Pavlik needs an opponent for the fall before he eventually fights Abraham in 2009. If someone can come up with an opponent who has more cache than Hopkins, then I'd love to hear it.
For those saying, 'he should fight Abraham!".. well, you're ignoring reality. That fight isn't happening until 2009. Pavlik could take the easy route and fight in the fall against a Lockett-esque stiff. If he's willing instead to risk it in the fall against a cagey accomplished fighter like Hopkins while waiting for Abraham, then more power to him.
-
Re: Pavlik vs Hopkins seriously being talked about for Oct 18th
Im not sure why people would lose respect for Pavlik taking this fight.
Hopkins has just beat Wright, Tarver and lost a close dec to Calzaghe at Lightheavyweight.
If Hopkins vs Pavlik could get made at 168lbs i think it would be worth watching and a pickem imo, tbh it makes a hell of a lot more sence than Mora or Williams.

I cannot see the Pavlik Abraham fight happening anytime soon. Maybe way far down the road.
Abraham has no name here. Pavlik is not a big name himself. You know both camps will want 10's of millions to accept the fight and no promoter will risk losing that much of his shirt for a superfight between two unknown champions. With Abraham's promoter's and some of their shady work, there is no way pavlik would fight in Germany either.
This fight has a bigger chance of never happening than happening.

Abraham has to fight a mandatory which delays a fight with him and Kelly. Williams and Wright are out-pricing themselves when Pavlik is the draw right now. Pavlik isn't making excuses or trying to manipulate the game. He is just sitting back waiting for his promoter to pick the fights for him. If any one thinks that Pavlik is scared to fight anyone or wants to avoid certain fighters, that is def not the case. I completely believe he is no way near afraid to fight anyone.
Mayweather was in a different boat. With people like Cotto, Margarito, Mosley, Williams, Berto in his weight division, it shouldn't have been hard to set up a fight with at least one of them. Instead Floyd PERSONALLY CHOSE to fight a part-time Oscar De La Hoya and a much smaller Ricky Hatton. This isn't close to Pavlik's situation.
Pavlik is just trying to keep active. I can see why he could possibly get criticized. If you could just see for a moment who his potential fights can be against, they just have other issues that prevent it from happening.

I'm with Pea here. I'm just glad he's willing to stay active when people should be the one's chasing him not the other way around.

So in the meantime he cant go up to 168? there are plenty of decent guys, I mean all joking aside I rather see him fight Carl Froch just because the fight will have some explosive quality to it, but not a old boring, hit and old throwing 5 punches around and 2 are legal type fight... No thank you I rather watch him fight a LIVE opponent not a slipping 45 year old fighter

What are you on about JT? Lose all respect for him? Come on that's garbage, Abraham has a mandatory that he's honoring against Marquez otherwise you would have heard his name mentioned a long time ago.
This wouldn't be a bad fight, well it would be a bad fight in the ring, but for Pavlik it's not bad. He wouldn't look good because like mentioned, I think Hopkins could be in a wheelchair and still manage to eek out 5 rounds. But I do think Pavlik would win.

Really? I think if Abraham and Pavlik win their respective matches, and if Calzaghe doesn't call Pavlik out after his fight with Jones, Abraham and Pavlik will easily be each other's next fight.

Re: Pavlik vs Hopkins seriously being talked about for Oct 18th
Hopkins lost to Taylor 2x
Hopkins beat a weight drained Tarver
Hopkins cheated his way to beating an undersized out of shape Winky
Hopkins got beat by Calzaghe because he faded down the stretch because he cant hang anymore with the young guys.... FACT!!!!
-
Re: Pavlik vs Hopkins seriously being talked about for Oct 18th
Hopkins just loves his smaller opponents don't he?
-
Re: Pavlik vs Hopkins seriously being talked about for Oct 18th
To say you would lose all respect for a guy who is looking at every fight out there, and giving not fighting Abraham as a reason is ridiculous JT. And Hopkins on my scorecard beat Calzaghe. And on a lot of people's, and he showed people he could still hang and Pavlik is anything but extremely athletic. I do think in the end his pace would be a bit to much and there are other fights I would rather see, like Wright, but he doesn't need to go foray in another division, he's waiting for Abraham at middleweight.
Come on, everyone knew that he wasn't going to have a really big fight this year when Abraham won and said he would honor his mandatory. Hopkins would be a harder fight then anybody Abraham has ever faced too.
And what has Abraham been doing for the past 3 years? Aside from Miranda him and Sturm have literally been defending against the softest competition in boxing. Your boy Berto won a WBC title over a nobody, but you are going to single out Pavlik? There is something else there, you must just not like Pavlik because that's ridiculous.
-
Re: Pavlik vs Hopkins seriously being talked about for Oct 18th
I just don't want this transition for Hopkins, as an Opponent fought to Bide time as Pavlik waits foe bigger threats and Abraham to increase his state side marketability,(are they still talking about Raul Marquez)....Hopkins is much to much of a talent and He better be willing....and able to step into the brink Vs. Pavlik and take the victory, not just ride his name/legacy to a controversial close lose/win....rinse & repeat.
I suppose I'm thinking out loud and asking myself If I believe this one is winnable for Hopkins........absolutly!But he can be very frustrating for his fans and needs to TAKE it,his tomorrows are just about up!

Bernard Hopkins at 55 would probably still be better than Carl Froch is now. If you don't like Bernard's style of fighting, then that's your right, but that doesn't mean Hopkins isn't a worthy opponent for Pavlik.
If you said, "I don't want to see Pavlik fight Hopkins because I don't enjoy Bernard's style" then I wouldn't be disagreeing with that, because that would be a fair opinion. But that's different from "If Pavlik fights Hopkins, I'll lose all respect for him and that fight is garbage."

Re: Pavlik vs Hopkins seriously being talked about for Oct 18th
It would be interesting just to see how crap Hopkins would make Pavlik look and how BORING a fight Hopkins could make it.
Also.. Pavlik would win BUT I guarantee half this forum will claim Hopkins was ROBBED!! Fact.

On the contrary I like Pavlik alot, but Hopkins is an ugly fight plain and simple... I mean its time for Hopkins to hang it up already and now he is gonna fight Pavlik:confused: are you kidding me... I would rather see him fight Williams personally, a guy in his prime that will make a fight out of it at least, even if he gets KTFO not a 45 year old plodder who leads with his head and right, holds and bangs and rabbit punches out of the refs view mixing in a few low blows... Wash, rinse and repeat:rolleyes:
