45-0 And what??? come on fill me in tell me what i'm missing after years of watching i still think he is CRAP!!
Forget 21 or 22 defences against mainly has beens and bums and i said mainly take away Kessler how the hell has he become ring magazines P4P number 2 or 3??????????????????????
Most fighters resumes have has beens and bums on them and yet they still manage to loose. Also I have no idea how you can criticize calzaghes comp over the past 2 years or so with the exception of manfredo in there. He became p4p #2 by beating everyone put in front of him simple as. You can hate all you want on the man, and there is always going to be people hating on cal, he's just as good as his 45-0 would indicate, which is dam near superb. Who else could he have really fought other than roy, neither of which was willing to travel, b hop never came to terms back then, and don't even mention ottke. Its always the same story and if he goes on and beats roy, which won't mean much but if he then goes on to beat pavlik as well, as I think there is a decent chance he will, people will still be talking shit.
Ok what if joe calzaghe gets beat by a Roy jones who is well past his best?
Just isn't going to happen. If it did still wouldn't mean jack shit to me , in my eyes I'd view it as an off night for cal or maybe it be time for him to hang em up.
Lol!
How can you say "I think he is crap" with no subjective argument at all and end up being repped for a crappy little thread and comment.
Stupid.

Pointless thread.
Stick to youtube.
That's where the non-subjective arguments belong.
Yeah, I'm not a Calzaghe fan myself but this is a bit ridiculous. I do think that before these last few years he did very very little as a champion and think his skills are overrated but he's not crap.
Bait thread!
Yes Calzaghe fought some cans (shell i list Roy Jones resume?) but he fought some ultra solid guys before Lacy.
See i wanted you guys to tell me why he is so good yet you just slate me rather than slating me fill me in.
Can't you just watch the fights? Or better yet state exactly why you think he's shit.
To be honest, Joes style of fighting isnt too pleasing on the eye, he does throw alot of arm punches, he doesnt put his back in to them.
Personally I dont particularly find his fights exciting.
What I do like about him is how he can piiss all over very good fighters with that style, his workrate and desire at his age is amazing, he takes a good shot and roars back.
What would be interesting is if they were the same size, Calzaghe v Mayweather, Floyd is hard to catch but lays on the ropes alot, especially against aggressive fighters, Joe would keep throwing those combinations and Floyd wouldnt keep out the way, hed make Floyd work like none has and catch him like no one has.
Joe has a style that could potentially beat anyone in history, no one has come close yet even fighting good fighters in his late 30's hes dominating like he was 10 years younger.
He demands respect and what piisses me off is all the gay boys that went on about how big and ripped Lacy and Kessler were and they were sure to win because of it, its not a body building contest its fighting and no one can match Joe in a scrap.
Jones is just a name to add to his resume, if he fights Pavlik id be concerned for him, especially if it were at super middle because his last Two fights would have been against old has beens who cant fight hard any more and both would have been at light heavy, I think hed struggle to make the weight and may struggle finally at his age with the pace. On the other hand it may have allowed him to stay that bit fresher, not struggliong with the weight and fighting young contenders.
Calzaghe on his day outworks and stops Pavlik late after being hurt a couple of times;D Pavlik is good no doubt but Joe is proven quality;)
I think he is so good cos he wins. Is that OK?
Ive watched his fights ever since he fought Mark Delaney i only watch him so i don't miss him getting beat live. Now yes i'm saying he is shit and at the start of the thread im asking for you guys to tell me why he isn't crap yet rather than fill me in you slate me so perhaps i'm right he doesn't deserve his P4P#2 spot and he is well overrated.
Shit people dont go 18yrs undefeated spending 11 as a champion, shit fighters dont beat Mikkel Kessler or Bernard Hopkins, shit fighters dont top the bill in LV.
Calzaghe is one of only two fighters ever to hold all 5 recognised titles in one weight division WBO,WBC,WBA,IBF,IBO shit fighters dont do that.
Shit fighters dont hold two ring magazine titles symaltaniously, shit fighters dont try and defend two titles at two different weights.
This has the 7 pages of nothing written all over it. Break out the vaseline, feelings are about to get hurt.
Calzaghe is decent but like Hopkins he didn't take many chances with his career when there were BIG fights to be fought outside of 168.
If you're Calzaghe you go to the US to fight Roy Jones Jr. at 175 earlier because #1 RJJ was the #1 pound for pound fighter in the world and #2 he was one of the most popular fighters in the world.
If he beat RJJ in like 1998-2000 then hell the sky is the limit but if he beats him now he does NOTHING for his legacy but if he loses then he shows he really was a protected fighter...Kessler is good but was still green when he fought Joe much like Jeff Lacy was although Mikkel had better fundamentals.
Calzaghe said neither Hopkins nor Jones wanted to fight him, in Hopkins case we know this to be true with Jones we can only assume it to be true.
Look at the guys Roy was fighting 1998-2002 why would you take the risk in fighting Calzaghe who at the time held nothing when you could beat up on cans for the same?
Facts are Calzaghe was not known in the US HBO would not go for it and he also had nothing for Jones or Hopkins to fight for no name no marketability nothing.
That of course changed when Joe beat Lacy because he was introduced to a US audience in a big way and immediatly drew attention from both Showtime and HBO who prior had never shown a Calzaghe fight live.
As for Kessler being green the guy was a great amature won two world titles and had 39 fights, if thats green in a Chinaman.
Well there's a reason RJJ and Hopkins didn't want to fight him....they'd have to go to England which is 100% the reason HBO and the US didn't care about him.
Sorry if you don't like it but RJJ and Hopkins brought the $$$$$ to the table, Joe was talented but he didn't bring what those guys brought to the table.
All those guys had options of fighting proper big name talent and they didn't do it....it could have been a golden age of boxing, it's very sad
Hopkins mk 2002 would be much easier for Calzaghe to handle than the 43yo version.
Hopkins would have opened up and traded and got hit, i dont think the 2002 version of Hopkins would beat Winky Wright.
Not easy to beat a guy that throws a punch then holds a headbut then hold.
It was Joes career worst diplay and he still beat the guy at a new weight. Need to stop dogging Calzaghe your wrong in everything you say and you can make shitty arguments about every great fighters resume.
I dont know but the fight was agreed on, and why is it a given that a european based fighter has to travel to America?
If terms were agreed it wouldnt matter where im sure Hopkins and HBO would demand an American referee and an American judge. A luxury travaling fighters dont have when they fight in America.
I dont want this to keep going on Calzaghe is a great fighter if you disagree fine be wrong.
When Calzaghe got a true threat he kept pulling out and that was against Glenn Johnson.
If Calzaghe was that great why would most boxing experts rank Roy Jones as the best Supermiddle of all time when he only had 6 world title fights at that weight and Calzaghe has had 23??
My whole thing about Joe is his style of fighting and his opposition.
He brags about his volume of punches but the thing is, they're not punches! If he so called landed the most punches on Hopkins than anyone ever has, why didn't Hopkins face have anything to show for it? He slaps..
His opposition is highly debated. Joe's fans think they were great fighters, Joe haters think they weren't ready or too old. I personally think Lacy was a great performance but Lacy was all hype, Kessler was only big for his fight with Joe because the media hyped him up, Hopkins is WAY PAST IT and still put up a difficult fight for Joe. Now he's going to fight Roy Jones at this stage, it's hard for me to give him REP for that (lol). The worst part of it all is he's calling himself a "legend killer!" C'mon man! He sure wouldn't be called that had he fought them years ago.
Don't get me wrong, I may not like someone but I do respect them. I give him credit for being undefeated, unifying the division, holding two ring belts at once. But I do think there are fighters out there that are P-4-P better. I do poke fun at him every now and then, but as an adult, this is why I am not a fan of Calzaghe.
"If Calzaghe was that great why would most boxing experts rank Roy Jones as the best Supermiddle of all time when he only had 6 world title fights at that weight and Calzaghe has had 23??"
hmmm may have something to do with the fact that roy is american and joe is welsh, just a thought perhaps. Anyways have fun arguing with yourselves and calling joe crap because to criticize him and say he's not that great is a reasonable thing to do cause heck people will disagree but to call him crap shows that someone's just a hater so I'll leave this thread alone...
