Come Saturday, Margaritos upsets the World
I felt so passionate about this one had to start my own thread...
Hearing all the Tony haters is getting old, even if (a big if) he loses he is gonna die in that ring. This man has been waiting and been ducked for a long time and you think he's gonna go in there and just roll over.
Everyone in here must be a Rocky fan, and I can already see Tony telling his wife/trainer/mother/passed away brother "To beat me, he's gonna have to kill me, and to do that he's gonna have to be willing to die himself"...was Rocky really Mexican and not Italian???? Cuz that has Mexican fighter written all over it.
I dont doubt Cotto is willing to war, he has been in some, but I dont know he's willing to die. The countdown said it perfectly, between Mexican and Puerto Rican fighters and fans the big differance is that Puerto Ricans are allowed to box alittle more...let me translate that for you, when Tony takes Cotto's shots and keeps moving forward, Cotto will run/box (ill use those interchangeably), hell Cotto ran against Mosley an old Mosley, a Mosley that wanted nothing to do with Antonio Margarito!
Yes Cotto can out box Margo, but try boxing when you have a Tornado of well over 1000 punches a fight after you. Shit the most specialized, highly trained, super killers in any armed forces would succumb to shear volume of enemies after them, why do you think this will be different, ya Cotto will out box him, but Tony will outwork him. Tony has one of the highest stamina levels in the WW division. His production/workrate is wayyyyyy out of the norm for a Cotto opponent.
Cotto's higher level of boxing technique and ability will allow him to land many shots to the body and face, granted. What is he gonna do when he faces a man who takes bombs to the grill (Cintron) and laughs at him. Could he have stood up to those bombs? Could he have walked through it and f***ing laughed!
Yes Yes we're all mystified by the strong silent cotto who never smiles, keeps his composure in every situation, pushes the smaller man around and keeps moving forward, very imressive. BE afraid of the guy that laughs in your face, beats your ass, and begs you to get up so he can continue to whoop your ass some more.
Make no doubt about it my friends we are in for a classic, and I give all the respect in the world to Cotto for his ability, athleticism, and dedication to his craft he is one of my favorite fighters, and with this post I am not saying that Tony has it in the bag or anything close to that, a part of me is afraid for Saturday to get here. We all seen the soft underbelly of Antonio Margarito on the Countdown, and no matter how badass you are, you must have felt his pain over the loss of his brother, and if he doesnt win this weekend who knows what that might do to him, a loss here would be hard, so I worry for him.
But do not discount Tony because he will die in there. He will put it all out there for himself, his family, his country, and his fans and even if he doesnt pull it off this weekend, he will show more heart in defeat than Cotto can in Victory. He will have more fans than ever before. I know many of you know this to be true, Margo fans or not. He's gonna shock many, including his own fans and followers. Spread some rep if you believe it too. Not for me, but just to back up my man Margo.
Oh and when all you haters/non-believers change your minds, theres plenty of room on this band wagon, welcome.

Re: Come Saturday, Margaritos upsets the World
Good post, nice backing of your boy !! But i doubt tony winning would be and upset, it's highly likey that he does win, i've got it split 51/49 there are many scenerio where either guy could win, we'll just have to see which one plays out. I'd be really interested to see your reaction if god forbid tony looses, that's when the real fans show up to post.

Youy know what you're right, but I had to use the word upset to get some attention from the Cotto fans ;).
A win would be what someone else on another post called it..."an oversight" might have been you. I seen you backing Margo and I know you are on board with the idea of my post. We will be looking like boxing gurus after Sat.

Re: Come Saturday, Margaritos upsets the World
Margarito is really not that good. Cotto will decision him handily.
Should be some fun moments though.

Gotcha bro...yea so far i have the slightest lean towards margarito. Cotto recently has changed my opnion of him since his chop chop, torres, days (which i know he's probably tired of hearing about) but i still am not sure how he is going to fare against the amount of heavy punches he's going to see on sat. Tony's height, reach, and riddiculous workrate may just be too much. Can't wait to see...

The workrate is what the jaded Cotto fans are not seeing. Who has Cotto fought that brings that man punches to a fight? Besides this is the hardest hitter Cotto has faced, a close second would be Zab and he did wobble Cotto some but the body attack got to him before he could continue his attack. I mean if Zab got him and little Ricardo Torres got him, Margo is gonna punish him.

The jaded Cotto fans, yeah?
Im not a fan of either fighter...but Cotto seriously outskills the limited and overhyped Margarito. How many losses on the resume? And would you care to break it down? No....of course not. Cotto kicks him silly.

Obviously you didnt read my post, I never said this was a blowout for Tony, I said that the Cotto fans are making it seem like a walk away victory for Cotto, and its is not. Yes, Cotto has tighter technique, but not enough to "Kick him silly" theres no way ever, EVER!!! that COtto wins by knockout.
ok so he has losses on his record, most of those came when was a kid, he started at age 15 and i'm not using that as an excuse but you're saying loses discount his ability, will, power, all of it? So I guess our current P4P king Pacquiao should be re-evaluated I mean c'mon 3 losses and 2 draws maybe he's not all he's hyped up to be huh. Perhaps we need to discount Isreal Vasquez as well 4 losses geez what a loser. You know while we're at it lets revisit Muhammed Ali 5 f'ing losses!!!
Sounds ridiculous doesnt it, I'm not comparing Margo to these fighters in terms of ability or where he will land in history. I am saying that losses on a record should not discount anything about him.

Re: Come Saturday, Margaritos upsets the World
I don't think Margarito winning would be a huge upset, there are many factors that heavily favor Margarito, notably reach and workrate.
As a matter of fact I think the last title fight that was rated this closely was Izzy/Rafa III.
Personally I keep going back and forth between scenarios where either could win.

I must say I haven't been on the board as much lately, but I don't remember one true Cotto fan on here saying this fight will be a walk in the park for him. In reality AM is probably P4P the toughest fighter in the world, and will probably be Cotto's most challenging fight to date, if not second to Mosley.
Remember, Boxing is a sport, and heart can only get you so far in the ring. I expect Cotto to win on actual tangibles like speed, power, defense, and overall, just being a more skilled fighter. I'm not saying this will be an easy fight for Cotto just saying that I expect him to win, and if he doesn't I'll be happy for Margarito because he deserves it.

Not quite that excited about it, but maybe I just need some Cialis or something:-\
I'm just thankful for this fight; no matter who wins. I've been a big fan of Margarito for a long time and hope he wins, but the better man will prevail and since I like both I'll be happy either way. Just glad it's happening.
I just hope if Tony loses that all the haters don't come out saying what a journeyman gatekeeper he has been reduced to.

I'll be your huckleberry Miles;)
You realize Margarito has been a pro since 15 years old right? he has 2 losses when he was still a teenager fighting full grown men, the 2nd Santos fight was at 154 and was stopped because of a cut on his eyebrow so it was far from a beatdown and a foregone conclusion he would have lost.. And he lost to Williams because he started to late, fair play to Williams since he is one of my favorite fighters but if that was a 15 round fight Tony would have won since he cleary was fresh as a daisy at the end of the 12th round and had the momentum...
Who has seen Tony ever in trouble or seriously wobbled in a fight... Tony has fought more top ten Ring ranked Welters over the past few years.. He is one of the toughest hard grizzled bastards in the sport for years and has a heart like Holyfield just a straightforward punching machine with a sadistic joy of dishing and receiving pain..., Margarito has the edge in experience and battling through adversity, remember everyone wrote him off to Journey man after the Williams fight and he picked himself up off the ground to claw right back in the thick of it a year later and get his shot at greatness, he isin't gonna let Cotto steal his glory, this win will put Tony in a position to be in the Hall Of Fame..... Margarito will stop him late;)

Re: Come Saturday, Margaritos upsets the World
Look man, I respect that you are supporting your fighter and you have immense faith in his ability.
But could you please stop insisting that "if Tony doesn't winhe will die in that ring." Thats some pretty scary stuff man and God forbid something goes wrong for either fighter that would look pretty selfish from a fans perspective.
I like both fighters a lot, they both are excellent amabssadors for the sport, let's hope they have a nice clean competitive fight and they both come out ok, regardless of the result.
-
Re: Come Saturday, Margaritos upsets the World
I think this one will be a fight of the year contender i see Cotto boxing Tony the first few rounds then Toney will start to come in to the fight and make it a war .Iam still sitting on the fence as for picking a winner i thinking 60/40 for Cotto at the moment lol.

Uhhhhh, alright I thought I was talking to rational people who understood the use of metaphors. Tony is'nt dying in the ring what I meant was that he was gonna go out there and fight with everything he has and not have any regrets.

Your talking to a boxer who watched Oscar Diaz fight a couple of weeks ago.
It's a sensitive subject.

Heres your breakdown...courtesy of HBO Boxing.
...looking at Margarito's record more closely, and it became apparent why he had two losses. "They came before he was 19," Diaz said. "He was a child fighting men."
In his sixth fight at age 16, Margarito lost to Victor Lozoya, who was three years older. When Margarito was 18, his second loss was handed to him by an unbeaten 28-year-old named Larry Dixon. Jones, who was also 28, gave Margarito his third loss...
Goes on to say about the Santos fight being stopped by cuts. So I only see a legitimate loss to Williams for wahtever the reason.

To be honest if Margarito did win i wouldn't consider it an upset this is pretty even match up in my opinion.

Re: Come Saturday, Margaritos upsets the World
Not sure why you'd use the words boxing and running interchangeably
Derrick Gainer is a runner, Cotto boxed nicely against Mosley, you don't win rounds by just running.
Not sure why I take the bait on that all the time

Good post, man. I don't see where you see so many "Margo haters". Matter of fact, the level of admiration for Tony, if anything, has risen after his destruction of Kermit Cintron. Me? I'm a Cotto fan all the way. I'm proud of the way he represents our little island. And I'm going to be rooting for him as loud as I can. But I have the utmost respect for Margarito as a great fighter and a very worthy and dangerous opponent.

You beat me to this TitoFan. Rarely will you see 2 fighters going into a match with more equal respect from fans then these two warriors. I think it is part of the magic and the draw.
I too am rooting for Cotto, but with much respect for Margo. They are both great ambassadors for the sport and also a part of it's hope for the future. The world needs its heros, and it needs villains...but right now I feel the boxing world needs something to believe in for it's future, and that would be a hero. That hero shall emerge Saturday night, and hopefully delivered through a battle equal to the challenge and the hype, making it deserving of such a thing.
See yas there Saturday. Can't wait! ;)

Excellent posts Youngblood and Tito.
